*NSYNC Is Reuniting At MTV's VMAs On Sunday
24 aug 2013 23:56

While all the adults are watching Breaking Bad this Sunday, the kids table will will be tuned into a very different program: The Newsroom. You know children, they can’t get enough dramatized hindsight and Sam Waterston. But once they’re done giggling at Alison Pill and her inability to act like a normal human being, because women, they’ll tune into the MTV Video Music Awards, for The Gaga, The Daft Punk, The Hippity Hop, and mostly, The *NSYNC. "Justin Timberlake and his former *NSYNC band members are set to reunite for a special performance on the VMAs Sunday night at the Barclays Center, sources tell Page Six. MTV announced that Timberlake, who topped the charts in the late ’90s with the band, will perform at the VMAs and receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But we’re told former bandmates J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are scheduled to join him onstage for a reunion performance." --MTV news. It was nice of Manager Jerry to let Chris Kirkpatrick take a day off from his shift at Arby’s to attend the ceremony. He’ll just have to pull double sometime next week. Those toilets ain’t gonna un-clog themselves.

Beards are awesome, in the old sense of the word. Like when you can hardly breath it is so awesome. Like when you might faint, fall over and land on the dog from the pure awesomeness. Minneapolis-based photographer Ben Garvin knows this and just released an absolutely fantastic and wacky stop-motion video called Magic Beard. He did the whole thing using the iPhone app Stop Motion Studio, and that’s all we’re going to tell you about it… take a safe seat and watch to the end!

Best Nail Decals Ever
23 aug 2013 11:04

A few weeks ago I was perusing the Renegade Craft Fair and I came across ChaCha Covers. The shop sells nail decals, NOT blankets for your lady parts as I initially thought. They sell nail decals for every occasion. Pizza party? There’s pizza party nails. Jem and the Holograms marathon? ChaCha Covers has got you covered. Wearing a Marilyn Monroe costume? Marilyn Monroe didn’t wear her face on her nails but you totally can. Wu-Tang Clan blasting on your boombox? Oh they got Wu-Tang nails alright and Wu-Tang nails ain’t nuthing ta f*** wit. They even do custom stuff, so you can have any image on the decals. You know what I’m gonna get? A picture of nails on my nails. Nailception! Plus it’s because my nails are all kinds of ragged. I’m a biter!

Timur Bekmambetov's 'Squirrels' Trailer Looks Ridiculous
22 aug 2013 18:19

I’m still pretty hesitant to believe that this is really and isn’t part of some grand viral marketing scheme for another film, but apparently director Timur Bekmambetov has been hard at work trying to produce the film Squirrels, which is about – you guessed it – squirrels. Except these aren’t just any squirrels, because just like Alfred Hitchcock’s Birds and James Nguyen’s Birdemic, Squirrels is the story of what happens when nature’s nut hoarders get fed up with humans and decide to fight back. A pre-production sales trailer for Squirrels hit the YouTubes over the weekend, and I assume that wherever Bekmambetov showed this clip, people just started throwing money and bank account numbers at him, because I can’t even count how many times I’ve thought, “If only someone had the balls to make a movie about a squirrel biting a little girl’s face off.”

Jonathan Banks Has Joined 'Community' Cast
22 aug 2013 18:11

TV hasn’t been the same since that one moment people on the Internet still get mad about when it’s spoiled, even though the episode aired nearly a year ago and really, if you don’t already know that Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad was a victim of Walter White’s full measures by now, you’re doing something…Oops. Anyway, I’ve missed Jonathan Banks’s dead-eyed scowl, so I’m eating this news up like a particularly hungry hippo. Jonathan Banks will appear in 11 episodes of Community‘s fifth season, EW has learned. Banks will tackle the role of Pat Nichols, an intense criminology professor with a mysterious background in military and police work. The Wiseguy alum makes his first appearance in the second episode of the season when Annie (Alison Brie) enrolls in his class. (Via) I have a note for anyone who’s not excited about Mike at Greendale.

Toy Story Meets The Shining
21 aug 2013 11:50

The third Toy Story movie went to some dark places, but it didn’t go all the way to the alcoholic murder hotel. Artist Kyle Lambert rectifies that obvious oversight with his digital paintings, which cast Pixar’s talking toys as characters from Stanley Kubrick’s horror classic The Shining. See what happens when all work and no play makes Woody a dull toy. Lambert explains that he created this series after reading Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich’s tweets about The Shining, which Unkrich says inspired him to become a filmmaker. After creating these paintings on the iPad Brushes app, he printed a poster of the entire series, which he gave to Unkrich. Fortunately, he’s also released all 25 images online.

Dr. Seuss Body Art

Make up artist Lex Fleming did this series of Dr. Seuss body art. She’s got One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Cat In The Hat, The Lorax, and more! They’re all super impressive not to mention incredibly nostalgic. Reminds me of my pappy learning me how to read all those years ago. I was a late bloomer, so like, two, maybe three years ago. But I’m not ashamed. As they say: better late than never. Or as pappy used to tell me: you aren’t getting any younger and you were never that good looking to start off with. Maybe it’s time you learned how to read.

21 aug 2013 11:25

In his final semester of architecture school, graduate student Hank Butitta grew tired of completing conceptual projects that only existed on paper and decided to bring an assignment to life. With this drive, Butitta impulsively bought a school bus off of Craigslist for $3,000 with the intention of redesigning it into a mobile home for his final project. The idea gained traction and the support of professional architects and instructors, prompting the ambitious architect to actually transform the vehicle.

He spends a considerable time wandering the realm before being captured by the Dark Brotherhood, who offer him a deal. Dovahkiin agrees to help the Brotherhood save a captured member from the Necromancers, in exchange for a cure to his vampirism. For those of you who are interested in seeing more of Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic "Noah", here are a few high resolution photos from the film and the set showing off several of the characters in the film. Aronofsky is a crazy talented director, and the fact this is Aronofsky's dream project tells me it's going to be one of his greatest creations. At least that's what I'm expecting! The movie tells the epic biblical story of a prophet who is told by God to build a giant boat that can carry two of every animal from the earth to save them from a giant flood that will destroy every living thing on Earth so that they could have a new beginning. God flooded the world because of its wickedness. The film has an incredible cast of actors as well that includes Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Saoirse Ronan, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Durand, and Mark Margolis. It comes out on March 28th, 2014.

Super funny supercut: Drug Use in Movies
18 aug 2013 23:46

Between open mic comedy and being at The Gathering this past weekend, I think I could go six more lifetimes without hearing someone expecting to be applauded for doing drug use ever again (The Kottonmouth Kings enjoy marijuana – who knew?). But this Supercut, “Drugs in the Movies,” by Robert Jones, is so well put together that you can’t help but enjoy the hell out of it. It’s got all your favorites – Fast Times, Fear and Loathing, Go, Boogie Nights – and extra mega bonus points for including Tim Meadows’ speech in Walk Hard, one of the most underrated and underquoted comedy performances of the last 10 years. I seriously don’t know why that guy isn’t a huge star. Way to go, Obama.

Cumberbatch has no such qualms: while filming Sherlock over the weekend, Cumberbatch wrote a tut-tut-shaming note directed at the paparazzi that read, “Go photograph Egypt and show the world something important.”

Patton Oswalt Trolled Twitter With Two-Part Political Tweets

It's almost unfair how good Patton Oswalt is at Twitter. I mean, he's good at most things (that talented jerk), from delivering Star Wars-inspired filibusters to packing Go Bags, but he's ESPECIALLY good at Twitter. A little over a month after shaming Salon, Oswalt spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon trolling his quick to react Followers, with a number of tweets that look damning...until you read them in context. For instance, the tweet you see above, about Hitler rightfully killing off the Jews — that looks pretty bad, until you realize it comes after, "Oh, you think repealing voting laws in the south is justified, you racist asshole? I suppose you ALSO believe that..." A typical reply: "How is it racist to only want U.S. citizens to be able to vote for people who will represent U.S. citizens?" Fantastic. Steve Wozniak Jobs Review: Problem Ashton's Image of Jobs
18 aug 2013 23:16

Steve Wozniak, the chubby, lovable half of Apple, wrote a short review of "Jobs": "I saw 'Jobs' tonight. I thought the acting throughout was good. I was attentive and entertained but not greatly enough to recommend the movie. [...] I suspect a lot of what was wrong with the film came from Ashton’s own image of Jobs. Ashton made some disingenuous and wrong statements about me recently (including my supposedly having said that the ‘movie’ was bad, which was probably Ashton believing pop press headlines) and that I didn’t like the movie because I’m paid to consult on another one. These are examples of Ashton still being in character. Either film would have paid me to consult, but the Jobs one already had a script written. I can’t take that creative leadership from someone else. And I was turned off by the Jobs script. But I still hoped for a great movie. [...] I felt bad for many people I know well who were portrayed wrongly in their interactions with Jobs and the company. The movie ends pretty much where the great Jobs finally found product success (the iPod) and changed so many of our lives. I’m grateful to Steve for his excellence in the i-era, and his contribution to my own life of enjoying great products, but this movie portrays him having had those skills in earlier times."
