Scottish installation artist and sculptor David Mach has a very unique style. He makes giant sculptures of fictional characters, people and animals from flowing assemblages of mass produced objects such as car tires, match sticks and bricks. In this case I present to you an amazing collection of his sculptures made from tiny clothing hangers! Wow, the guy must have loads of free time. But seriously though, these are great peaces of hard work and dedication!

"The Horrific First World Problems" Exposed On Twitter.
14 may 2013 18:56

I found this interesting post by the Managing Editor of Visual News, Benjamin Starr and wanted to share. He made a collection of pictures with twitter posts from people who we'd consider as "first-worlders", complaining about the most ridiculous things. I think, although funny, they are a big red flag on our society and the focus of many people on their silly little problems. This kind of self-ceneted thinking diminishes peoples perspective on the world around them, and on the bigger problems, not only in their own lives but in other countries for example. You should be ashamed people!

5 Games You Want Coming Out This Week (May 13th - 19th)
14 may 2013 20:10
Keeping track video game releases isn't as easy as it once was -- the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they're spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile). Well, I'm here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I'll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week -- think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I'll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a "Pick of the Week".

Scientist Teaches An AI To Play 'Super Mario Bros.'
14 may 2013 20:11
When the Terminators arrive to kill us all, we have one hope. That hope is, apparently, that we live in World 1-3 of Super Mario Bros., because according to the not-entirely-serious research of Tom Murphy, robots really can’t handle platforms very well. But they can learn to play video games. Murphy has a highly amusing video detailing the incredibly stupid way his program started playing video games… but, over time, it learns to be a pretty solid Mario player:

Game Of Thrones Season 6 GIF Recap: 'The Bear And The Maiden Fair'
14 may 2013 20:14
“The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” written by George R.R. Martin (and last heard drunkenly shouted by the Hold Steady), has a lot more in common with season one’s “The Pointy End” than it does last year’s “Blackwater,” the other two episodes written by the Game of Thrones author. It continued existing storylines (Jon and Ygritte walking, Sansa and Margaery talking, etc.) and set up new arcs (Dany waging war with the Yunkai), without resolving anything, other than the Sad Saga of Theon’s Manhood. “Blackwater” was the cathartic (and literal) explosion after two years of off-screen battles; the biggest fight in “Maiden Fair” featured a bear and a wooden sword. Not that that scene wasn’t fantastic. Because it was. I mean, it’s a giant f*cking bear (named Bart!) fighting a human in a pit (and done a lot better than The Walking Dead‘s ring of zombies, with a better peformance from the 300-pound fuzzy tractor than the Governor to boot), and the episode overall was very, very good. Oddly, though, Martin wasn’t the star — that distinction belongs to director Michelle MacLaren, who Breaking Bad fans should know as the visual eye behind “Gliding Over All.” The way she filmed Joffrey’s chat with Tywin, with the camera angles reflecting the gradual power shift, was a thing of looming beauty. You could mute that scene and still know what was going on. Not that you’d want to miss a single Joffrey whine or Tywin smackdown.

Textastrophe Messes With Public Cell Phone Numbers
14 may 2013 20:17
Think twice before you leave your number on Craigslist or a flier stapled to a telephone pole: Textastrophe is watching. The hilarious Tumblr collects text message conversations between the website's mysterious founder and people who leave their cell phone number in public spaces. In an interview with Mashable, Textastrophe-in-Chief said, "People trustfully place their phone numbers for the rest of the world to see, in hopes to conduct some form of business. Textastrophe is just a way of uncovering the hilarious relationships one can have with these unwary strangers. It brings a novel and modern-day spin on the age-old practical joke." Meaning, it's a way to mess with people who are looking to buy an adult Stormtrooper costume.

First Look At Paul Giamatti In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Set Photos
14 may 2013 20:18
After campaigning for two years to play The Rhino, Paul Giamatti landed the role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now directer Marc Webb has tweeted a first look at Giamatti in character as Aleksei Sytsevich (before the transformation), and we have 16 additional set photos taken in Brooklyn, New York this weekend. Most of these pictures come courtesy of Fan-Girl.org, who have 350 pictures total in their The Amazing Spider-Man 2 galleries here and here if you need 350 pictures for some reason. I don’t know, maybe to wallpaper a room with? We won’t judge. First, here’s the official photo released via Twitter, in which you can see the tatted-up Giamatti screaming from the seat of a semi-truck. That barbed-wire tattoo on his forehead is a prison tat signifying a “life without parole” sentence.

Facebook Is Making Your Breakup More Painful
14 may 2013 20:20
As noted by classical poet Neil Sekada, breaking up is hard to do. And according to research at the University of California, Facebook is probably making it worse. How? By making you cling to all the digital detritus of your dead relationship, that’s how. Corina Sas and Steve Whittaker interviewed 24 people about their breakups and discovered that a lot of people were hanging onto photos and messages posted to Facebook, even though it was the emotional equivalent of chewing glass for a lot of them, and just to rub it in, social networking made getting your ex the hell out of your life a lot harder.

An Impoverished Community Revitalised Through Art
14 may 2013 20:33

It’s amazing what can be achieved when nobody is fighting over who takes the credit isn’t it? Here’s a story of one such scenario, it began when a civil engineer, two visual artists, a PR professional and an architect formed an art collective called Boa Mistura in Spain. Their name actually translates into ‘good mixture’, a reference to all the individuals and their professions within the group. They recently headed to one of the poorest and long forgotten house estates in Panama City called El Chorrillo with a goal to restore a sense of pride, vitality, community and creativity to an area which had long fallen into disarray, a concrete blight in a discarded neighbourhood. They opted to injected some much-needed vibrancy into the house block, working closely with locals, they painted the entire facade in rich tones and eye-popping colours. What’s even more impressive is the fact those colours were selected by the tenants themselves and then moulded into one unified design. A multitude of colours, chosen and painted by a community of individuals with their own unique stories. The final design spells out the phrase “Somos Luz” which means ‘We Are Light’ – a shining example that by working together, we can make the world a better place for every individual. http://www.boamistura.com/index.php?pagina=inicio#-1

Beyonce Cancels a Concert Due to Illness.
14 may 2013 21:55

Beyonce added fuel to those pregnancy rumor fires (rumors being vehemently denied by those close to her) by cancelling a concert in Belgium today, May 14, due to a combo of dehydration and exhaustion. In an effort to appease fans, the show was rescheduled and old tickets will be honored at the new show, so at least there’s that. Meanwhile in, ZOMG BEYONCE IS PREGNANT! land, everyone is saying being tired and thirsty is merely a weak cover for being knocked up. Bey also has a show tomorrow, but according to her rep, she’s “awaiting word from her doctors before making a decision” about whether to cancel that as well. Still other conspiracy theorists say Queen Bey just has other obligations, like a rumored arrival on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet (she’s been spotted on its schedule). Could this plot get any thicker? Or more ridiculous for that matter?

Christina Aguilera Will Be Back on ‘The Voice’ Next Season
14 may 2013 21:59

After a season off, looks like former ‘Voice‘ coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green are set to reclaim their cushy spinning chairs. And, of course, the cushy spinning paychecks that go with them. According to an insider for NBC, Aguilera signed a deal a couple of months ago to return next season but the deal was kept under wraps. As for Cee Lo, the exec told The Wrap, “We are not there yet, but working toward it.” Xtina will make $12.5 million for Season 5, which is quite a bit less than the $17 mil she earned on Season 3, but it still ranks her among the highest-paid women on reality television. Green’s pay isn’t expected to be anywhere near that much. Aguilera does have the opportunity to make more next year, but that depends on how much time she puts in since, weirdly, coaches are paid by the hour. (We can’t even begin to compute the hourly there.) Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, the other two original judges, are also in negotiations but expected to return to the competition, with current judge Shakira anticipated to come back at some point in the future. As for Usher, no word as of yet.

Drug Breathalyzers Are On Their Way!
14 may 2013 22:15

Swedish researchers at the Karolinska Institutet have developed a system called SensAbues, which allows them to use breath analysis to test for 12 different drugs in someones system with 20 breaths, including cocaine, marijuana and amphetamines. The reason it works very accurately is because small amounts of molecules from our blood diffuse into the lining fluid of the lungs, therefore reflecting micro-particles of substances in our bloodstream through the breath. This break through in combining science and technology is sure to go into developing something as convenient as the roadside breathalyzers used for alcohol testing, and we might soon see them in U.S.

Angelina Jolie Had a Double Mastectomy
14 may 2013 23:59

Angelina Jolie: actress, director, philanthropist. And now, breast cancer activist. Jolie revealed in a self-penned New York Times piece that she recently underwent a double mastectomy, shocking and awing the world — and drawing possibly more attention than ever to the illness and to women’s health as a whole. The Oscar winner revealed that the death of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, at 56 drove her to preventative surgery to prevent not only cancer, but also to prevent her own six children from having to deal with such a tough loss so young. “I carry a ‘faulty’ gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer,” Jolie wrote. “My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman. Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65 percent risk of getting it, on average.” Jolie’s cancer risk after her surgeries, which she details in the piece, is now down to less than 5 percent. The proud mom and partner of Brad Pitt, whom she thanks within the editorial for staying with her through every moment of her lengthy and complex procedures, will detail her surgeries on the website of the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where she received her treatment. The most stunning part of all of this? Jolie kept working throughout her recovery, which is why no one knew about her surgeries until now. Damn, lady. Major respect.

RIHANNA FOR RIVER ISLAND SUMMER COLLECTION

I was being selfish. But hopefully my fans and the River Island customers will have the same tastes. I love everything here,” Rihanna told the cameras while searching through the options in her summer collection. “I [also] needed to make clothes for fat days that I have,” she confusingly added of the skin-tight, short and often made-of-mesh pieces. Check out the video to see RiRi in designer action with such stunning statements as “floral, I think, is timeless” and “I wanted it to be gangsta,” but also for a few insightful comments about how women actually do have different body types.

Jennifer Lawrence Symbolism-Heavy ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Poster
15 may 2013 00:09

Looking like her old Katniss self again, Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence stands tall and strong in the new poster for ‘The Hunger Games’ sequel, ‘Catching Fire.’ In the image, J.Law poses dramatically on a cliff while learning that one day everything the light touches will belong to her. (Or is that ‘Hamlet’ with lions? We always get those confused.) Behind her, the CGI clouds form a shape reminiscent of the Mockingjay, the symbol for which the semi-reluctant revolutionary Katniss is known. The tagline above her head reads, “The sun persists in rising, so I make myself stand,” which is in the opening chapter of the second book. The storyline therein involves how Katniss deals with her new, post-Hunger Games life — including training children how to survive in a fight to the death. (Thanks, allusions to ancient Rome, for your super uplifting young adult film.) Check out the entire poster in all its glory below.
