Geraldo Shares Topless Selfie on Twitter, Internet Goes Crazy
22 jul 2013 15:12
Geraldo Rivera has been married five times, so he seemed intent on showing just what these women find so irresistible. Rivera caused quite the stir on the internet when he posted a picture of himself wearing nothing but a towel on his Twitter feed Sunday morning, alongside the caption, “70 is the new 50. Erica [his wife] and family are going to be so pissed…but at my age…” The photo sent the microblogging site into overdrive, with more than 1,000 retweets. Perhaps realizing he did some serious visual oversharing, Rivera did the world a service and later deleted the tweet, writing:

The Best Cosplay From Comic-Con 2013
22 jul 2013 15:14
SDCC 2013 has come and gone, and we may have been sitting in our hot, un-air conditioned NYC apartment, sweating out a horrendous heat wave in our underpants, but look what's out on the internet, and geez, they took some great pictures! Obviously so many amazing things happened there, but our favorite part of Comic Con is always the cosplay. Here are some of our favorites from this year, but be sure to check out Comics Alliance for even more awesome pics from the Con.

Drumming Grandma Is the Most Unlikely Rock Star You’ll Ever See
22 jul 2013 15:14
Meet the coolest grandma around. A YouTube clip has been making the rounds featuring the “grandma drummer” — an elderly woman named Mary playing the drums at the Coalition Drum Shop in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Not only does she play well, she twirls the sticks like she’s been doing this for years, which based on her skills, maybe she has. Of course, a woman this age who can still bring it shouldn’t be tooling around in a drum shop in the Midwest. She should be on tour with the Rolling Stones. Check her out in action below.

The Rapping Weatherman Is Back With Dope New Rhymes
22 jul 2013 15:15
The Rapping Weatherman is back! Rather than make a bunch of weather puns to show we’re “hip,” we’ll just say we love this guy soooo much more than weather.com. Not just because one time weather.com made us look at a picture of a fish with human teeth, either (seriously, wtf, weather.com?), but because he’s genuinely awesome. He does what all good weathermen should do — make us want to pay a cable company so we can watch TV and hope it will be this good. Well done, sir.

Lady Gaga Goes Nude for V Magazine to Prep for ARTPOP
22 jul 2013 15:22
Lady Gaga is no stranger to being unclothed, but this shot of the pop star au natural in minimal makeup and tousled hair isn’t usually how we see her in the buff. For example, why isn’t she simultaneously swimming in a bathtub full of cereal? Why is nothing on fire? The snap itself is from a photo shoot with V magazine and was shared by fashion photographers Inez van Lambsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin on their Instagram and Tumblr accounts. “Get ready world for our pics of @ladygaga for @vmagazine !kisses iv #artpop” the duo teased the internet. Don’t worry, there are plenty more shots where this came from. And if this is what they were willing to share, imagine what the rest of them will look like. We also got a sneak-peek at some leaked video (below). It’s all in anticipation of Mother Monster’s new album, the long-awaited ARTPOP, which drops Nov. 11.

Bryan Cranston went to Comic-Con dressed as Walter White
23 jul 2013 11:31
Comic-Con 2013 wrapped up in San Diego this weekend and a pretty great story came out of the event’s final day. Bryan Cranston, star of AMC’s Breaking Bad, walked around on the floor of the event dressed as his character, Walter White, while wearing a lifelike Walt mask. Cranston mingled and took pictures with fans, who had no clue who he was.

This Was The Summer Of 1969 In New York City
23 jul 2013 14:43
As Bryan Adam’s famous declared in his song ‘The Summer of 69′ "Oh, when I look back now That summer seemed to last forever And if I had the choice Yeah, I’d always wanna be there Those were the best days of my life” He probably wasn’t wrong. It was a fascinating period in America, which saw not only the Woodstock Festival capture the imagination of music fans the world over, but it was also the year the US landed on the moon. Both of those highlights were tempered with the Stonewall riots and the grizzly Manson murders that whipped celebrities into a frenzy of panic. Here’s a few photographs from the sweltering heat of New York City in 1969, a look back on the free spirit, fashion and individuals that defined an era.

Deceptive Fast Food Ads vs Reality

Spooky Algorithmic Images Create The 'Face' Of A Film
23 jul 2013 15:09
Every film you’ve seen, no matter what type of format or device you’ve seen it on, is a continuously moving composition of frames. But stock standard movie posters aside, how can you truly encapsulate a film’s mood & its characters? Well, enterprising and artistic duo Shinseungback + Kimyonghun have come up with a succinct solution for that very question. Together, they’ve pulled together a series of faces from the likes of The Matrix, Black Swan, Avatar and Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and created an algorithmic composite of frames used in the movie which contain faces. They’ve used a facial recognition tool which automatically detects any face every 24 frames – as the movie continues, frame by frame, it begins to generate “the face” of the film itself. The images themselves provide a haunting almost dreamlike summary of the films they represent, The Matrix for example contains the dingy green colour filter used throughout the film, whilst the Avatar composite is ambiguous and gender neutral. What movies would you like to see them generate next? Let them know, by getting in touch with Shinseungback + Kimyonghun via their official site

Louis C.K. Says 'F*ck Rolling Stone' On 'The Daily Show'
23 jul 2013 15:41
Louis C.K. on The Daily Show is usually a treat mostly due to Louis and John Stewart’s great chemistry. So when I found out that Louis would be on the show with John Oliver it was sort of a letdown. Oliver, though, held his own and had a really funny excchange with Louis, complete with a punchline for the ages. C.K. was on the show to discuss his role in the new Woody Allen flick, Blue Jasmine, which he hadn’t even seen yet at the time of the interview. So it was pretty funny to hear him speculate about how good the movie would be if he had actually seen it. The kicker, though, comes at the end. Oliver asks Louis about a quote from Rolling Stone and his response is pretty great: ”They put that kid on the cover that blew up Boston so f*ck them.” Who cares if you agree with the controversial decision to put the alleged Boston bomber on the cover or not. You have to at least respect Louis’ ability to say pretty much everything he needs to say in one biting sentence. Enjoy…

CNN Royal Baby Correspondent: Kate Is 'Brilliant' For Having A Boy
23 jul 2013 15:42
Often times during the day I’ll keep CNN on while I’m working, unless, of course, they’re going nuts over poop cruises or the Zimmerman trial or whatnot. Anyway, today was, in case you somehow haven’t heard, the day that Kate and Will dropped their new royal baby, and at some point while I was working I heard CNN Royal correspondent Victoria Arbiter (yes, CNN has a Royal correspondent) say something that made me do a double-take. Like, I had to rewind to make sure I heard what I thought I’d heard. “This is how brilliant a Royal Kate is,” Arbiter said with a straight face. ”There are women throughout British Royal family history that have panicked having not being able to deliver a boy. And here we are, Kate did it first time” Yes, she really said that…

MAKE IT STOP: CNN's Unrelenting Coverage Of The Royal Baby

I’m afraid that today CNN’s unrelenting royal baby coverage actually managed to eclipse their insane wall-to-wall poop cruise and Zimmerman trial coverage. Personally, I dipped out before the first hour of New Day had even wrapped, and from there it only got worse: at one point the network went 75 minutes as documented in this video from Guyism – without mentioning another new story, not even dildos being hunted into extinction…

RIPD is DOA: Mega-Gallery of This Week's Most Popular Headline
23 jul 2013 15:47
Everyone is ripping on RIPD being DOA at the box office. So much so, that it was inevitable I make a post on it based on pure comedic value. With a movie about undead policeman with an acronym title not only bombing but sucking, this weekend and the lead up to it offered the temptation of that perfect, once-in-a-lifetime apt acronym description, the siren song of which was just too much for most news outlets to resist. R.I.P.D. is D.O.A., they all said. Not since Thor came out has a headline pun been so obvious and ripe for the picking. So here it is, your incomplete guide to 'R.I.P.D. is D.O.A.' headlines. It's no "sh_t sandwich," but it'll do. I say incomplete because there were three more pages of Google results I didn't even get to. Seriously.

Star Wars Vs. Game Of Thrones Is Intense

5150: Amanda Bynes Has Been Placed In A Psych Ward
23 jul 2013 15:53
A few weeks ago we instituted a moratorium on Amanda Bynes posts around here. The fact that she’s obviously mentally ill — to the point that Courtney Love was doling out life advice to her — made any chronicling of her bizarre exploits feel icky. I think the note I sent out said something along the lines of, “unless she kills someone or kills herself, let’s avoid posting anything about her.” Well, she hasn’t killed anyone, including herself, but she could have last night, and for that she’s been locked away in an LA-area psych ward. Reports the Hollywood Reporter: "Amanda Bynes was placed under 5150 hold and taken to the hospital for mental evaluation on Monday night after setting a small fire outside a home in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The fire department was called around 8:45 p.m. when the 27-year-old actress, whose erratic behavior has spurred several run-ins with the law in recent months, sparked the fire in the driveway area of the single-family residence, whose inhabitants have no association or relationship with Bynes, Sergeant Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department told The Hollywood Reporter."

Beyoncé Got Her Hair Stuck In A Fan

Words like “professional,” “the best,” and “OMGGGGGGGGZZZZZZZZ” are how most are reacting to Beyoncé’s encounter with a fan last night during a concert in Montreal, in which a “wind-blowing device,” as E! described it, sucked in her weave and wouldn’t let go. But I think E! commenter “illuminati” said it best when he proclaimed, “why does beyonce refuse to come out and publically proclaim she is a illuminati agent like all celebrities are.” Indeed. Beyoncé is grabbing your children and turning them into Illuminati like the fan did her hair. OPEN YOUR EYES.

10 Great Bands That Haven't Been On 'Rolling Stone' Cover
23 jul 2013 16:09
"F*ck them." Those were Louis C.K.'s accurately bitter words to describe his feelings for Rolling Stone, which recently put the Like-SO-Cute-Boston Bomber-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named on its once-hallowed cover. It's easy and fun to bash Rolling Stone — like anything that was once counterculture (Captain Beefheart was on the cover in 1970, for Christ's sake), it eventually becomes culture, and with that, comes the "sell out, not what it used to be" accusations. (See also: The Simpsons.) But they're not exactly makings things easy for themselves, not when Justin Bieber and The Voice hosts stare back at you when you open your mailbox. In honor of C.K.'s comments, let's take a look back at other "f*ck them" Rolling Stone moments, specifically: 10 great bands (and only bands) that have should have graced the magazine's cover, but never did, along with the lesser artists who were put on the cover the same year the deserving group released an amazing album.
