Just How Many Jellybeans Do You Have Left?
25 jun 2013 14:50
What would you do with the rest of your life, if you knew precisely how long you had left to live? It’s a morbid yet thought-provoking question that talented YouTuber Ze Frank poses in his unique and creative video. Based on American Time Use Survey he’s worked out that our average lifespan is 28,385 days – yet alarmingly we’ll spend 8,477 of those sleeping, 3,202 holding down a job and a further 2,676 staring at the TV. Using the analogy that one jelly bean represents a single day in our lives he uses different amounts of them to reflect unique increments of time and events in our life. It begs the question, what will you do with the little time you have left? Ze Frank has a few suggestions in his beautifully crafted and genuinely moving video below.

Epic Illustrations Of US Presidents Fighting In Battle
25 jun 2013 14:45
Ever thought you see the day when Obama was riding a lion with a light saber? Neither did we until now. Like many of us, one suspects that illustrator and visual artist Jason Heuser wishes that our elected leaders could be a little more courageous & fantastical. That goes a long way into explaining his inspiration behind these incredibly awesome illustrations. Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt are all recreated in the midst of battle or tooled up ready to take on the naughty evil-doers. You can get your hands on prints of images via his online store (they’re reasonably priced too) in the meantime, enjoy watching some of the most famous US Presidents in history kicking some serious ass. http://sharpwriter.deviantart.com/ http://www.etsy.com/shop/sharpwriter

Watch President Obama Sing ‘Get Lucky’ by Daft Punk
24 jun 2013 18:21
If there was any doubt, Daft Punk’s single ‘Get Lucky’ is now officially Summer Jam 2013. Barack Obama says so. Well, not really, but this is close enough. Also if this is Summer Jam 2013, maybe we won’t have to listen to that awful new Rihanna song anymore. Please?

Delta’s In-Flight Safety Video Will Have You Laughing Out Loud
24 jun 2013 18:21
Those safety instruction videos you are forced to watch before your flight takes off are getting a major makeover. Delta has begun playing a hilariously tongue-in-cheek video, which still manages to relay the important facts passengers need to know. Considering these videos tend to be as clinical as a visit to the doctor and entertaining as C-Span, we say it’s high time other airlines made a change. And here’s one other suggestion: whoever directed this video should be given a six-picture deal. Imagine how much better ‘The Internship’ would’ve been with this guy at the controls.

Reporter Acts Like Giant Baby Around Spider
24 jun 2013 18:20
An on-air weather personality in Canada had some trouble keeping her cool during a recent broadcast, thanks to an eight-legged intruder. The rub, of course, is the spider isn’t even in the room, but that doesn’t alleviate any of the fear Kristi Gordon clearly feels. Turns out Gordon has a history of bug attacks. Last month, she was dive-bombed on-air, which you can see below. Our advice for Gordon: invest in some OFF!

Paula Deen Racism Scandal Gets Taiwanese Animation Treatment
24 jun 2013 18:20
In case you haven’t been following that whole “Paula Deen is a huge racist” thing very closely, here’s a video to get you up to speed. Sort of. It’s actually kind of confusing. Brought to you by NMA World Edition, the Taiwanese news crew who animate the news in a humorous manner, this is the tale of Paula Deen’s recent legal woes, exaggerated for comedic effect. While it might not make things totally clear to you, at least you get to see cartoon Paula Deen using a confederate flag as a bath towel.

A typical Jennifer Lawrence quote: “My publicist told me that a magazine was going to say I was having a thing with either Sam Claflin or Bradley Cooper, and I got to choose. And I chose Bradley Cooper because I love Sam’s fiancée so much. [Sam is] so sweet. So sweet that he’s almost not hot anymore.” A typical Jonah Hill quote: “You don’t want girls to think you suck d*ck at f*cking p*ssy.” A typical Jonah Hill/Jennifer Lawrence FashMashup quote: OH MY GOD WHY WOULD SOMEONE MESS WITH PERFECTION LIKE THAT? So Apparently Deadpool's Video Game Takes Its Cues From Duke Nukem
25 jun 2013 10:00

Don’t get us wrong, we trust High Moon Studios to deliver a solid game. These were people who were handed Michael Bay’s Transformers movies and through sheer force of will actually squeezed a surprising amount of creative blood out of that particular stone. And we’ve little doubt a Deadpool game will play great. It’s a game that involves stabbing, shooting, and doing ridiculous things with little regard for health or safety. That’s pretty hard to screw up. But it’s the whole brotastic attitude to the whole enterprise that’s a bit… well, odd. The humor is a bit wrong for the character. Granted, Deadpool is incredibly quirky and weird, but that’s because he’s genuinely insane. Put a good writer behind him, and you’ve got him calling firearms doorknobs as he beats the snot out of some intolerable snob who gave him a degenerative brain disease, or realizing he’s actually saying what’s in his captions aloud, or dropping a piano on Wolverine. This… feels a bit like it’s trying too hard. “Adolescent” is the wrong word. You know that moment when you’re at a comedy show, and some guy comes on, trying really hard to be edgy? This kind of feels like that. Still, we’ll reserve judgment for seeing actual gameplay footage. Like we said, this will be pretty hard to screw up. Really, all we have to do is drop a piano on somebody, and all will be forgiven. Video games don’t drop nearly enough pianos on people.

5 Games You Want Coming Out This Week (June 24th - 29th)
24 jun 2013 18:04
Keeping track video game releases isn't as easy as it once was -- the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they're spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile). Well, I'm here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I'll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week -- think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I'll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a "Pick of the Week".

Picnic in Florida
24 jun 2013 12:42
This is the extraordinary moment a group of diners got more than they bargained for when a greedy alligator gatecrashed their picnic looking for a BITE to eat. Photographer, Rodney Cammauf, had just found a sunny spot by the water in Homestead, Florida to enjoy his alfresco lunch when the bizarre event unfolded. The 68-year-old was tucking into a few burgers with friends when they spotted the giant alligator approaching them from out of the water. The cunning creature rapidly descended upon the party leaving the host of frightened diners with nothing to do but run.

8 Best Racing Game Power-Ups
24 jun 2013 11:57
Racing games fall into two basic genres — kart games and simulators, and only one genre can qualify for our list of the 8 Best Racing Game Power-Ups. While racing sims try to emulate the feeling of real racing as closely as possible, kart games throw that nonsense out the window in favor of making things fun. One of the most notable ways that kart racers can up the fun factor is with power-ups — those little floating items found on every track which grant any who touch them untold power. Each game has their own hierarchy of useful and not-so-useful items, so let’s smash them all together to compare which power-ups pack the most power in our list of the 8 Best Racing Game Power-Ups!

Shazam is an incredible app for your cell phone that can listen to just a few seconds of a track and give you the name of the artist, song, and album. It completely eliminates the frustration of hearing a song over and over but never knowing how to buy it. We put Shazam to the test to see if it would identify other sounds and suggestion music artists based on those sounds. Here are the results:

The Aaron Hernandez Movie?

With the media all in a furor over Aaron “Holy shit he might have actually killed somebody” Hernandez, the only thing I could think of while watching the helicopters follow him on errand runs is how Hollywood will adapt this crazy tale. No, I’m not talking about the inevitable Law and Order episode where Terry Crews plays a football player wrapped up in a gang hit, but HOLLYWOOD. I can see them taking things in many directions. Mostly action.

Wilco Played Daft Punk, Beatles During All-Covers Set

There are only three bands I’ve seen live more than six times: Counting Crows (making me the only guy who’s never had tangled dreads to do so), Titus Andronicus, and Wilco, including twice at their own festival, Solid Sound, in West Adams, Massachusetts. I wasn’t able to make it this year, which was apparently a huge mistake: according to Gothamist, Wilco played an all-covers set last night, including songs from the Velvet Underground, Yo La Tengo (who joined them for “Tom Courtenay”), the Kinks, Television, Neil Young, the Band, Big Star, the Replacements (with Tommy Stinson), and best of all, Daft Punk. No one can resist the charms of Nile Rodgers.

The 'World's Ugliest Dog' Is Actually Adorable
22 jun 2013 23:01
The puppy you see above is Walle. He could use some love. Yesterday, he won the 25th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Chico, California, run by a bunch of blind nobodies who probably think margarine is superior to butter and that I shouldn’t be named the Universe’s Hunkiest Blogger (though, to be fair, Burnsy was a good choice). "A huge-headed, duck-footed mix of beagle, boxer and basset hound was the upset winner Friday at the 25th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. Walle, a 4-year-old mutt from Chico, California who was entered at the last minute, was judged most unsightly of 30 dogs at the Northern California competition. “This dog looked like he’s been photo-shopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals,” judge Brian Sobel said." Apparently Brian Sabel has never seen these monsters. The dogs are terrifying, too.

Here’s the Kidz Bop Cover of ‘Thrift Shop’ You Didn’t Know You Needed
22 jun 2013 22:02
We didn’t fully comprehend how many filthy words were in Macklemore’s hit song ‘Thrift Shop’ until we heard that Kidz Bop was going to cover it. That news filled us with an unexpected sense of dread, as we mentally rattled through the lyrics and realized so many children were about to be grounded for the summer. It’s okay though, guys. Kidz Bop has got this on lock. They’ve changed *so* many of the words that it’s practically a different song, which sort of makes it entertaining in its own right. Here are the original, NSFW lyrics for comparison. If you’re more of a visual person, here’s the song animated in MS Paint.

10 Lies That Movies Told Us About Going to College
22 jun 2013 21:59
One of the most surprising things about ‘Monsters University‘ is just how much of a typical college movie it is. Granted, it’s full of that typical Pixar warmth and charm, but the overall story revels in a template as old as ‘Animal House’ and ‘Revenge of the Nerds.’ Other than the fact that it stars monsters, ‘Monsters University’ is just another entry in a long line of “snobs vs slobs” movies set at institutions of higher learning. Like so many of its college comedy brethren, ‘Monsters University’ has skewed the facts of college life for dramatic purposes, occasionally reveling in cliches that have been around for decades but have little bearing in the real world. In fact, cinema has painted an incredibly inaccurate (but highly entertaining) portrait of college life over the years. Watching a lot of movies before heading off for your first day of classes is sure to prepare you for a very different experience than you’ll actually get. So, without further ado, here are 10 incorrect things that the movies have taught us about college.

Ancient Greek Statues Reworked Into Epic Glitch Art
22 jun 2013 21:47
The art world is split into two types, those who produce original artworks and those who adapt reinterpret & reinvigorate existing works. Similar to how ABVH reconfigured and brought Banksy’s famous street murals to life, digital artist Zach Dougherty is transforming the inanimate into something new. He’s taken a series of classical Greek statues and painstakingly altered them into brillant glitchy alternate versions of themselves. The brittleness & inflexibility of stone converted into weightless and ever-changing pixels. Below are just a few examples of his work, but you can experience the full range via his blog Hateplow – a place where the old is constantly looping into the new.

This Machine Will Visualise & React To Your Own Voice
22 jun 2013 21:41
Murmur is an art installation that transforms the sound of your voice into breathtaking light waves and projections. It’s the baby of 4 interactive design studios Chevalvert, 2Roqs, Polygraphik and Splank. Each of them has worked on a different element of the work including visual design, object design, sound design and a deft touch of programming. The installation simulates the movement of sound waves, building a luminous bridge between the physical and the virtual worlds. There is a magical effect, a mystery in the way that sound waves move. Murmur focuses on this movement, thus creating an unconventional dialogue between the public and the wall. By speaking down an echo chamber, your voice is carried down a connecting line and then interpreted into a beautiful collection of visuals using LED lights, from geometric shapes to mountains made of luminous circles. It’s enchanting and even magical to watch at times, watch the video below for the full effect. In the meantime, you can see extra photos from the work and the learn more about the project right here Sit back and enjoy. http://www.chevalvert.fr/ http://www.2roqs.fr/ http://polygraphik.com/ http://www.splankstudio.com/
