Arrested Development: Best Of Fan Made Tobias Funke Insert Me Anywhere
16 may 2013 17:48

It's been just over twenty-four hours since Ron Howard, Dr. Tobias Fünke, and the Arrested Development team unleashed InsertMeAnywhere.biz on the internet, forever altering the "Tobias+Funke" Tumblr tag and how we think about mangos. As an early celebrator of all things Insert Me Anywhere, I feel it's my duty to follow up with some of the best inserting anywhere the internet has to offer a day later. With the ruthless clinical objectivity of a seasoned analrapist I've trimmed this down to a manageable number. It helps that censors prohibited me from including Tobias's involvement in the NSFW Theon scene from last week's GOT. And now to prematurely shoot our wads on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will.

Australian Morning Show Host Pulls 'Anchorman' Prank On His Co-Host
16 may 2013 17:33

Here is a clip of Australian morning show host Karl Stefanovic — who is awesome — using the Anchorman teleprompter prank to trick his co-host, Roz Kelly, into professing her love for hash cookies. So simple, and yet so perfect. You know, it’s a good thing I don’t work at a news station. I would try this just about every day, to the point that it would get incredibly old not only for my co-workers, but also for the viewers, and it would send our ratings tumbling into a bottomless pit of despair. It would get so bad that the station’s parent company would be forced to declare bankruptcy and lay off thousands of people. Then those newly unemployed individuals would be unable to make their mortgage payments, which would lead to another collapse of the housing market and a sustained period of economic hardship for the whole nation as stock prices drop to never-before-seen lows. Eventually we would all be forced to revert to hunting and gathering to sustain ourselves, and those who are unable to adapt to this rugged way of life would be burned for fuel. Chaos would be the new law of the land, and Ted Nugent would be king. Or they would just, like, fire me.

20 'The Office' Series Finale GIFs
16 may 2013 17:05
Fear. Anger. Sadness. Joy. Disgust. Trust. Anticipation. Surprise. Those are not only the eight basic emotions, according to Robert Plutchik’s theory, but a decent description of our reaction to NBC’s The Office during its nine-season run, which ends tonight. For a solid five or six season stretch, it was one of the best sitcoms on TV (and all-time), before, as happens with too many shows with better ratings than ideas, it became a shell of itself. “Finale” is going to be an emotional hour for anyone who’s spent the last eight years caring about Michael, Jim, Pam, Dwight, and the rest of the Dunder-Mifflin gang, so I thought we’d go through each of the eight emotions above, to come to terms with no more The Office. It’s good that it’s going, but it’s sad that it’ll be gone. Fear…that we won’t see Jenna Fischer, The Office‘s secret MVP, as much as we should. Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Rainn Wilson get most of the attention, not undeservedly so, but I’d argue that The Office is as much about Pam’s journey from sheepish secretary to confident salesperson as it is anything else. Plus, her speech “Beach Games” is maybe my favorite moment of the entire show.

Wild Card! The Main Trailer For 'Pacific Rim' Is Pretty Cool
16 may 2013 17:00
Warner and Legendary Entertainment released the full main trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim just a few moments ago. Clocking in at the same length as first trailer and the WonderCon footage, this one nonetheless feels like it’s giving us more. We’ve already seen GIFs of robots with rocket elbows punching monsters in the face. We can’t wait to see what GIFs the internet will come up with after this trailer gets around. Coming off of our WonderCon footage reel, this looks includes a few of the same setpieces, but also packs some new elements. We witness some sort of memory transference between the pilots of our robots, as well as a few new bits of large-scale action. [The Film Stage] Well, it’s no Atlantic Rim, but we’ll take it. http://thefilmstage.com/trailer/new-full-length-trailer-for-guillermo-del-toro%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%98pacific-rim%E2%80%99/

Watching GIFs In Reverse Makes Everything Better

I want to enjoy something, anything in life as much as that man loves cotton candy. Earlier today, the GIF you see above made it to the front page of Reddit...and then I was introduced to the wonderful world of /r/reversegif. Things, be they people, animals, cars, or directions in life, going in reverse is just funny. It's as simple as that. Haha, they're doing what people do every day, but backwards. It's wacky AND simplistically funny! Let's take a look at some other GIFs in reverse.

The thing that will hurt most as The Office departs our lives forever is not the later stage mismanagement of a show that could have gone down as a top ten all-time sitcom, it's the knowledge that I still have so much to learn from Dunder Mifflin's Quality Assurance Director. Alas, at least we have many previous pearls of wisdom to forever let marinate inside our brains. Here's a collection I like to think of this as the next best thing to an active www.creedthoughts.gov.www/creedthoughts.

Don’t feel bad if you’re not sure what the hell Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite! actually is (aside from a grammatical nightmare). It took me a solid 20 minutes of research to figure it out, but I think I finally have it! It’s a movie based on Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes the video game (which came out last year). Or who knows, maybe it’s the other way around — all I know is it involves Batman, so I’m going to post about it! Terrible title aside, the movie(?) looks like it’s going to be pretty charming. Hit the jump for a couple clips…

Dare to dream

In a world filled with cynical people, it's comforting to know that there's someone like Heng Swee Lim. The Kuala Lampur, Malaysia-based illustrator creates bright and sunny works that will turn anyone's day around. Filled with optimism and hope, they have that child-like innocence to them that's wonderfully refreshing. When we asked Lim why he illustrates this way, he told us this. "We live in a world full of depression. I hope my drawings can make you feel easy, free, happy and hopeful. More than anything, I hope it makes people smile, straight from their heart."

This what can make your day worth living: ironing at the top of a mountain. Cool, isn't it? But it is dangerous too, so think twice before you decide to do this.

Jennifer Lawrence Symbolism-Heavy ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Poster
15 may 2013 00:09

Looking like her old Katniss self again, Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence stands tall and strong in the new poster for ‘The Hunger Games’ sequel, ‘Catching Fire.’ In the image, J.Law poses dramatically on a cliff while learning that one day everything the light touches will belong to her. (Or is that ‘Hamlet’ with lions? We always get those confused.) Behind her, the CGI clouds form a shape reminiscent of the Mockingjay, the symbol for which the semi-reluctant revolutionary Katniss is known. The tagline above her head reads, “The sun persists in rising, so I make myself stand,” which is in the opening chapter of the second book. The storyline therein involves how Katniss deals with her new, post-Hunger Games life — including training children how to survive in a fight to the death. (Thanks, allusions to ancient Rome, for your super uplifting young adult film.) Check out the entire poster in all its glory below.

RIHANNA FOR RIVER ISLAND SUMMER COLLECTION

You may have heard of Rihanna‘s not-so-well-received fashion line River Island, but what you may not know is that RiRi herself designed everything — because apparently retail clothing isn’t sexy enough, and sometimes you just want something comfy to wear on fat days. “I just wanted to make stuff that I want to wear. I was being selfish. But hopefully my fans and the River Island customers will have the same tastes. I love everything here,” Rihanna told the cameras while searching through the options in her summer collection. “I [also] needed to make clothes for fat days that I have,” she confusingly added of the skin-tight, short and often made-of-mesh pieces. Check out the video to see RiRi in designer action with such stunning statements as “floral, I think, is timeless” and “I wanted it to be gangsta,” but also for a few insightful comments about how women actually do have different body types.

Angelina Jolie Had a Double Mastectomy
14 may 2013 23:59

Angelina Jolie: actress, director, philanthropist. And now, breast cancer activist. Jolie revealed in a self-penned New York Times piece that she recently underwent a double mastectomy, shocking and awing the world — and drawing possibly more attention than ever to the illness and to women’s health as a whole. The Oscar winner revealed that the death of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, at 56 drove her to preventative surgery to prevent not only cancer, but also to prevent her own six children from having to deal with such a tough loss so young. “I carry a ‘faulty’ gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer,” Jolie wrote. “My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman. Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65 percent risk of getting it, on average.” Jolie’s cancer risk after her surgeries, which she details in the piece, is now down to less than 5 percent. The proud mom and partner of Brad Pitt, whom she thanks within the editorial for staying with her through every moment of her lengthy and complex procedures, will detail her surgeries on the website of the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where she received her treatment. The most stunning part of all of this? Jolie kept working throughout her recovery, which is why no one knew about her surgeries until now. Damn, lady. Major respect.

Most of these pictures come courtesy of Fan-Girl.org, who have 350 pictures total in their The Amazing Spider-Man 2 galleries here and here if you need 350 pictures for some reason. I don’t know, maybe to wallpaper a room with? We won’t judge. First, here’s the official photo released via Twitter, in which you can see the tatted-up Giamatti screaming from the seat of a semi-truck. That barbed-wire tattoo on his forehead is a prison tat signifying a “life without parole” sentence.

Game Of Thrones Season 6 GIF Recap: 'The Bear And The Maiden Fair'
14 may 2013 20:14
“The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” written by George R.R. Martin (and last heard drunkenly shouted by the Hold Steady), has a lot more in common with season one’s “The Pointy End” than it does last year’s “Blackwater,” the other two episodes written by the Game of Thrones author. It continued existing storylines (Jon and Ygritte walking, Sansa and Margaery talking, etc.) and set up new arcs (Dany waging war with the Yunkai), without resolving anything, other than the Sad Saga of Theon’s Manhood. “Blackwater” was the cathartic (and literal) explosion after two years of off-screen battles; the biggest fight in “Maiden Fair” featured a bear and a wooden sword. Not that that scene wasn’t fantastic. Because it was. I mean, it’s a giant f*cking bear (named Bart!) fighting a human in a pit (and done a lot better than The Walking Dead‘s ring of zombies, with a better peformance from the 300-pound fuzzy tractor than the Governor to boot), and the episode overall was very, very good. Oddly, though, Martin wasn’t the star — that distinction belongs to director Michelle MacLaren, who Breaking Bad fans should know as the visual eye behind “Gliding Over All.” The way she filmed Joffrey’s chat with Tywin, with the camera angles reflecting the gradual power shift, was a thing of looming beauty. You could mute that scene and still know what was going on. Not that you’d want to miss a single Joffrey whine or Tywin smackdown.

When the Terminators arrive to kill us all, we have one hope. That hope is, apparently, that we live in World 1-3 of Super Mario Bros., because according to the not-entirely-serious research of Tom Murphy, robots really can’t handle platforms very well. But they can learn to play video games. Murphy has a highly amusing video detailing the incredibly stupid way his program started playing video games… but, over time, it learns to be a pretty solid Mario player:
