AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN Trailer Features Cast
11 sep 2013 18:02
FX has released another trailer for American Horror Story: Coven and it's the first to feature the main cast of the series. It's called "Initiation," and it includes Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Taissa Farmiga, and Evan Peters. I've always had a fascination with the supernatural history of witches, and this is sure to be a really great third season. Enjoy the latest trailer! Coven features a great cast of actors that includes Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Denis O'Hare, Patti LuPone, Evans Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, and Emma Roberts.

New Funny Clip from CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2
11 sep 2013 17:49
Sony Pictures Animation has released a new funny clip for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2! The clip features the entertaining introduction of a new character named Barry, the talking strawberry. The first movie was surprisingly hilarious. I love the wackiness of the concept, and the sequel should end up being just as fun. The sequel was directed by Cody Cameron (story artist on Shrek, Surf’s Up, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and Kris Pearn (head of story on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and stars the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, and Kristen Schaal. It's set to be released on September 27th, 2013. Enjoy the clip!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 - Plot Details Emerge, Release Date Moves
11 sep 2013 17:47
Disney has moved the release date of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales from the summer of 2015 to the summer of 2016. The reason for the delay is to make sure that the script right. It's currently being written by Jeff Nathanson, and it's being directed by the amazingly talented directors of Kon-Tiki, Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg. Thanks to Bleeding Cool, we also have a few possible plot details from the fifth installment of the franchise. The script is still in progress, so some of the details revealed are subject to change. Here's the site's description of what they know.

JJ Abrams’ Mysterious Trailers Are For A Book
11 sep 2013 17:41
Between Star Wars: Episode VII, the Star Trek movie franchise and even the video game that he’s working on with Valve, as well as his possible involvement in the production of Portal and Half-Life movies, it’s very easy to become confused when it comes to JJ Abrams news. That’s why Abrams didn’t help anything last month when he also released a mysterious trailer simply entitled, “Stranger.” And while I was under the impression that it was for a movie about a guy who sits on his right hand, Abrams cleared everything up with a new trailer on Monday that explains that this is all about the book “S.” which Abrams helped developed and was written by Doug Dorst. Aw, a book? But that means reading.

Domestic Violence Isn't Funny But These Ike Turner Memes Are
11 sep 2013 17:39
First, I want to preface this by saying that domestic violence is a very serious issue. There’s nothing funny about an insecure, possibly closeted, man beating women. Okay? It's wrong. Unless...nope. It's wrong. Nevermind. Domestic violence is wrong. Period. Now that that’s out the way, someone somewhere started making up these Ike Turner memes and passing them along social media. They're pretty simple yet effective in getting an actual LOL out of me. Words like "My girl ain't allowed to pray silently... I need to know what her and Jesus got going on" are placed on an image of Ike, who as we know used to beat the sh*t out of Tina. At least that's what I got from the movie and that one Martin episode. It's okay to laugh at these. If not, we'll all just have a blast in hell together. No biggie.

The Baseball Card Vandals Made Football Cards For The NFL Season
11 sep 2013 17:38
Earlier this year, during my morning routine of looking for hilarious pictures and GIFs in these here cat tubes, I came across a Tumblr page that instantly became my favorite thing of 2013. That page, of course, is Baseball Card Vandals, which is still going strong, pumping out the most absurdly humorous desecrations of “worthless cards” on all the interwebs. But like any good meme, even the simplest alteration can breathe some fresh air into these lungs, and that happened on Sunday with the introduction of some new football cards in honor of the start of the 2013 NFL season. I don’t care how old I am, whether I’m living in an old folks home or accepting my nomination to be the next pope, or if the world is on the brink of a nuclear Armageddon at the hands of our cyborg cockroach overlords – if I ever don’t find the very last card in this gallery hilarious, I’m going to exile myself to the moon. Check out the rest of the football cards and the latest baseball cards at Baseball Card Vandals, follow them on Tumblr and Twitter, and check out their new shop as well.

‘Always Sunny’ Gets The ‘Cheers’ Opening Credits Treatment
11 sep 2013 17:37
Official Comedy uploaded the below video last Wednesday — the day of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiere — and I somehow indefensibly didn’t get around to watching it until today. I blame Rum Ham. But now that I have viewed it many, many times I can safely say it is incredible and belongs in a museum and fully endorse the show itself swapping it in for an episode. I mean, the graphics work alone. Just splendid. If you need me I’ll be turning a screengrab of Mac & Charlie at the Flyers game into my desktop wallpaper.

Trailer for Escape from Tomorrow, A Film Shot Illegally Inside Disney
11 sep 2013 17:36
I’ve often thought Disneyland seems like a great place for terrifying acid trip, and that was only on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. I’ve never been to DisneyWorld, but the fact that it’s in Florida makes me feel confident in assuming that it’s a hall of horrors. That Disney parks are creepy seems to have been the inspiration for Randy Moore’s Escape from Tomorrow, a “surrealistic, genre-defying” thriller shot guerrilla-style inside Disneyland and Disneyworld. It’s set to hit theaters and VOD on October 11th, assuming Disney’s lawyers don’t have Moore sent to Mouschwitz before then. Disney is the nefarious monolith that gave us Miley Cyrus and history’s wussiest generation of American actors, I wouldn’t put anything past them. Incidentally, the Disney equivalent of the Aryan ideal is Zac Efron.

Lionel Richie Offered Some Parenting Advice To Billy Ray Cyrus
11 sep 2013 17:32
As the saga of Miley Cyrus’ strange obsession with twerking and becoming a hip hop star continues into what feels like its 100th year, not a lot of people have been asking perhaps the most important and interesting question: What does Billy Ray Cyrus think of all of this? According to Miley, dad couldn’t be happier and told her that he loved the whole foam finger, simulated doggystyle sex performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs last month, but that’s like me saying that my parents are proud of me for being a blogger. Singer Lionel Richie has a feeling that he knows what Billy Ray is going through, because his own daughter, Nicole Richie, was once a wild reality TV starlet and also a drug addict, but she has gone on to become a fashion icon and role model to all of the girls that she and Paris Hilton brainwashed for years. With that, Lionel offered Billy Ray a little advice.

Barf! An Officially Licensed 'River City Ransom' Has Hit Kickstarter
11 sep 2013 17:28
Oh, River City Ransom. For you youngsters out there, RCR was a brawler in which stumpy Japanese, er, I mean American kids beat the barf out of each other across an 8-bit open world (15-years before the term “open world” even existed). It also had naked butts. Heh heh. The game wasn’t a huge hit when it was first released, but it’s held up far better than your average NES game and picked up a pretty solid cult following since then. Well, more River City Ransom may soon be on the way, because River City Random: Underground has just hit Kickstarter. The game is essentially a 16-bit update to the RCR formula, and unlike a lot of the “spiritual successors” to classic 8 and 16-bit games you see on Kickstarter, River City Ransom: Underground is actually officially licensed. Yup, whatever remains of Technos (the original developers of RCR) has declared this a real River City Ransom game. Hit the jump to check out the standard Kickstarter hype video…

A Middle Eastern Prince Spent $500K for 15 Minutes with Bella Swan
11 sep 2013 17:27
Kristen Stewart gets way too much crap simply for being associated for Twilight, and not enough crap for being a one-note actress whose one move is “broody wounded dove.” Nonetheless, she certainly has her fans, including an unnamed Middle Eastern prince who paid $500,000 just to sit with her for 15 minutes. Long enough for at least an under-the-skirt hand job, I hope. Harvey Weinstein told the story while promoting his Hurricane Sandy benefit concert film, 12.12.12.. From the New York Times:

Saul Goodman 'Breaking Bad' Spinoff Is Happening
11 sep 2013 17:21
AMC’s neon shirt budget just skyrocketed, ’cause the Saul Goodman Breaking Bad spinoff is ON. After several weeks of negotiations, the basic cable network has inked a licensing agreement with Sony for the series’ next iteration. “As conceived, the new series is based on the show’s popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul,” the studio and network confirmed in a joint statement, adding: “plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character [played by Bob Odenkirk] before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer.” The series will star Odenkirk, with writer/producer Peter Gould set to run the series as it was Gould who created the character back in season. Bad creator Vince Gilligan will remain involved, and noted in late July that it was his “fervent wish” that the spinoff would move forward. Had talks with AMC fallen through, there were several other distributors, including Netflix, that were set to pounce with rich offers. Like Bad, the series will be produced by Sony, where Gilligan spent several years under an overall deal. The showrunner has not yet re-upped, and has fast become the most in-demand showrunner in town. The news comes as Bad is set to ends its run in less than a month. (Via IMBD) Feel free to answer every question for the rest of the day with, “It’s all good, man.” (Yes, Better Call Saul could suck, but it could also be great, and it’ll keep Odenkirk distracted from making The Brothers Solomon 2.)

10 Best Music Video Dances From 2000s
11 sep 2013 17:20
"Hey Ya!" is 10 years old, which means Speakerboxxx/The Love Below has been out for a decade, which means you're old. André 3000's timeless ode to making you cumma was released as a single on September 9, 2003, and 10 years later, its legacy is firmly set as one of the most purely enjoyable songs of all-time. So many bar mitzvahs. Much of the song's popularity is tied into its impossibly perfect music video, which taught the word to "shake it like a Polaroid picture." In honor of Outkast's "Hey Ya!" let's take a look at 10 other classic dance moves that were popularized via music videos from the past decade. While listening to The Love Below, obviously.

'Worst Twerk Fail Ever' Video Actually a Jimmy Kimmel Hoax
11 sep 2013 16:54
So remember the video of the twerking girl who accidentally set herself on fire? Remember how we all got a good laugh out of it? Remember how everyone from YouTube commenters to morning news shows dubbed it “the end of the twerking craze as we know it”? Well, turns out it was all a hoax perpetuated by that merry prankster Jimmy Kimmel. As revealed last night on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ the whole thing was cooked up by Kimmel and his staff as a prank. It turns out “Caitlin Heller” isn’t even the name of the girl in the video — she’s a stuntwoman named Daphne Avalon who collaborated with Jimmy on the video. Kimmel claims that he and his staff uploaded the video, titled “Worst Twerk Fail EVER – Girl Catches Fire!,” a couple of months ago and it just took off in the last week thanks to Miley Cyrus grinding all over Alan Thicke’s son on national television. (The video is dated September 3rd, but whatever you say, Jimmy.) The video spread last week like the fire running up “Caitlin’s” leg, and as Jimmy pointed out, tons of media outlets played the video with such attention-grabbing headlines as “Worst Twerking Fail Ever” and “The End of Twerking?” Jimmy even sneaks in a dig at the media, saying “good thing nothing is happening in Syria right now.” Of course, many people questioned the validity of the video, wondering why a) someone would upload such a video to YouTube themselves and b) who exactly twerks by doing a handstand against a door. You win, Jimmy. We all needed a release from the constant discussions of twerking and wanted to laugh at this supposed “fail.” But what did you expect? Did you really think that every media outlet would not cover the video? That’s like throwing a bunch of icky fish guts at a shark and telling him not to chow down. It’s just cruel, Jimmy.

Mother Makes 11-Year-Old Daughter Wear Sign Apologizing for Twerking
11 sep 2013 16:45
Twerking may be the dance craze of the moment, but one parent is going to great lengths to stop it. Frances Hena, of Bakersfield, California, was so irate that her 11-year-old daughter decided to twerk at a school dance that she made the girl stand on a street corner with a sign apologizing for her behavior. Hena had told her daughter, Jamie, not to twerk, but found out through a friend that she had gone ahead and done it, anyway. Hena decided to dish out some unusual punishment, hauling Jamie to a street corner with a sign informing anyone and everyone who drove by what she did. The sign read:

Unbelievable Skeletons Unearthed From The Catacombs Of Rome
11 sep 2013 16:43
Back in 1578 came the fascinating discovery of a network of labyrinthine tombs, lurking deep beneath the street of Rome. The tombs were home to the decayed skeletons of early Christian martyrs – believed to be saints on account of their bravery & unwavering support of Christian beliefs. Many of these skeletons (given the name ‘The Catacomb Saints’ by those who first discovered them) were then distributed across Europe (predominantly Germany) as replacements for the countless holy relics which had been smashed, stolen or destroyed during the Protestant Reformation. Once delivered, each skeleton was then clothed and adorned into a variety of precious jewels, expensive cloth, crowns, armour and even given wigs. They were put on display inside their designated churches as a reminder to all who visited, for the riches and wealth that awaited them post death – providing they swore allegiance to the Christian faith.

Jon Stewart Mocks Cables News Over Syria Coverage On 'Daily Show'
10 sep 2013 10:14

Oh hey that whole WAR WAR WAR with Syria thing is still a thing that’s looming out there. It’s easy to forget about it what with Breaking Bad going HAM and the return of football and the kids twerking and that. But this morning brings a rather interesting development that may actually help to avert America having to invade another Middle Eastern country. Reports CNN: "Facing the threat of a U.S. military strike, the country’s leaders Tuesday reportedly accepted a Russian proposal to turn over its chemical weapons. The development, reported by Syrian state television and Russia’s Interfax news agency, came a day after the idea bubbled up in the wake of what appeared to be an off-the-cuff comment by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. And while U.S. officials say they remain skeptical, it quickly changed the debate in Washington from solely “Should the U.S. attack?” to “Is there a diplomatic way out of this mess?”"

Watch Mark-Paul Gosselaar Play 'Modern-Day Zack Morris'
10 sep 2013 10:09

Let me begin by disclosing my biases here: I am an unabashed lover of fake mustaches. I have seen every episode of Saved by the Bell multiple times and have written thousands and thousands of words about it. I started watching Franklin & Bash semi-ironically and it has somehow ended up becoming a part of my soul. I enjoy the comedy of Paul F. Tompkins, particularly his appearances on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast. And I would very much like to drink Manhattans with Mark-Paul Gosselaar. So I am, shall we say, not impartial in regards to these videos from Paul F. Tompkins’ web series “Speakeasy,” which feature the comedian sitting down with the man behind Zack Morris and Peter Bash to knock a few back and discuss his career. The second video I posted below is getting the most play so far, because it features Gosselaar playing a few rounds of Zack Morris In 2013 and that is some pretty damn strong Internet bait, but the more straightforward interview in the first clip is really interesting, too. For example, did you know that Gosselaar attended a regular high school 30 miles outside of Los Angeles for a solid chunk of Saved by the Bell’s run? How weird must that have been for the other students? Like, you’re just sitting at your lunch table poking at your Salisbury steak with your spork and all of a sudden Zack Morris himself asks if he can join you? I would have thrown up. But I think my favorite part of the clip is when Gosselaar discusses the differences between being a teen star today and when he was on the cover of every third edition of Tiger Beat. He makes some solid points about how technology has changed the way we consume this sliver of pop culture, and, in the process, he sort of defends Justin Bieber. He also repeatedly calls him “annoying,” so it’s not the strongest defense you’ll ever hear, but still, it’s interesting to get a perspective on that situation from someone who lived through it and came out the other end a healthy, seemingly well-adjusted adult. A healthy, seemingly well-adjusted adult who owns at least one fake mustache. Let’s not forget that part.

Let me begin by disclosing my biases here: I am an unabashed lover of fake mustaches. I have seen every episode of Saved by the Bell multiple times and have written thousands and thousands of...

Seeing her for the first time again
10 sep 2013 10:08

After undergoing surgery to repair some hernia tears, Jason Mortensen was dosed up on heavenly morphine and barely able to form sentences, let alone make sense of the swirling world around him. All he knew was that there was a woman next to him and that she was the “prettiest woman I’ve ever seen.” That woman was his wife. Suddenly, millions of wives are signing their husbands up for heavily sedated surgeries. Win-win!

8 Amazing Callbacks From The Final Season Of Breaking Bad
10 sep 2013 10:06

A great final season of television should be like a great novel: Everything that came before should mean something. All along, Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad has been about great, efficient storytelling. Every element is necessary and irreplaceable. A final season should make use of all of those elements: It should be like an amazing, unpredictable, mind-blowing new song with elements of the rest of the album interwoven into the narrative. That is exactly what the final season of Breaking Bad has been so far. Everything from the previous five seasons informs this sixth season (or season 5B, if you prefer). By calling back to earlier episodes, Vince Gilligan is rewarding his audience for paying attention and, in the process, enriching those earlier episodes, which mean more now that we’re seeing how they inform the final eight episodes. I don’t know how else to say it except that all the callbacks and parallels from the last five episodes has been really f***king NEAT. I have taken the liberty of cataloging 25 of the callbacks and parallels from the first five episodes of the final season (the final season, for our purposes, is only the last eight episodes of the series). There may be more. There will no doubt be more in the final three episodes. People will probably continue to spot them for years to come. Some guy in 2016 watching the entire series for the sixth time may spot something new in “Rabid Dog” that he’s never seen before and his mind may finally explode all over his laptop. In the decades to come, people are going to look at this series as the perfect example of how to make a great, entertaining, compelling, intense and intelligent series that rewards its audience as much as it challenges it. These brilliant callbacks are just one of the many reasons why Breaking Bad will persevere.

A great final season of television should be like a great novel: Everything that came before should mean something.
