Strange & Fascinating Presidential Campaign Posters
29 jan 2013 23:40
Posters have been a mainstay of the political landscape for many years. Some are used to demonize opponents while others are used to inspire. We live in a world where the 24 hour news cycle means stories come and go like the tides, but the art of politics stays with us long after votes have been cast and politicians have been sworn in. Take Shepherd Fairey’s iconic ‘Hope’ poster featuring Barack Obama. As an artwork and piece of political artwork it is instantly recognisable. It is a rare piece of political artwork that can have such a strong impact on the public, but this collection of political posters from over the years shows that it was by no means an aberration.

Japanese Farmers Create Fields Of Unbelievable Art
29 jan 2013 23:37
It all began way back in 1993 in a small Japanese village called Inakadate, local farmers began to plot out their rice paddocks using different coloured rice plants. They used 3 types, purple, the yellow-leafed kodaimai and the traditional green-leafed tsugaru and when those 3 different varieties grew to their full length, they would form a series of rough images within the field.

29 jan 2013 23:36

Here’s what Markus had to say about the project:

Fantastic Artworks From Famous Movies
29 jan 2013 23:35
You might not have heard of him, but Drew Struzan has been influencing pop culture for well over 30 years now. He’s the exceptionally talented artist / illustrator behind some of the world’s biggest movies and their featured artwork. From modern day classics like Harry Potter, to the 80′s retro cool of the Back To The Future series as well as the likes of Police Academy and Indian Jones in between, Struzan has worked and shaped them all. His wonderfully photo-realsitic style is a blend of cartoon-esque images & portrait photography, which he magically mixes together to create an entirely new style of illustration. It’s his technique, which has been influencing artists around the world and will continue to do so, for generations.

We’re all familiar with the iconic Zippo lighter, originally manufactured in Pennsylvania, they’ve been a stable of popular culture since 1933. The reason their popularity continues to live on, is that they were designed to be “windproof” and as such made the ideal must-have accessory for anyone battling the elements. One of the biggest consumers of Zippo lighters during the 1960′s and 1970′s were those in the US military. One man’s scrap is another man’s art – or in this case another woman’s. Carolina Fontoura Alzaga is worried that we’re becoming a throw-away society, dumping broken and old technology into the ground without questioning its impact on the environment. To that end, she salvages discarded bicycle chains, transforming and connecting them to form these quite beautiful chandeliers. The series is called ‘CONNECT’ and it’s motivating factor is to…

Russian street artist Nikita Nomerz not only creates art, but he uses it to manipulate the world around him. He’s the creative wizard behind the following graffiti artworks – rather than using unreadable fonts or lazy stencils he actually transforms every day buildings into giant and often creepy characters. He carefully tailors his work around the structure of the building or object itself, fusing them seamlessly together. Dull landmarks become scary & studious faces, blank walls are blasted with colour and local chimney’s are given a whole new perspective. In an interview with The Telegraph, he goes on to say:

Church Soaked With Colour & Transformed Into Pop Art
29 jan 2013 23:27

Your local church, rich in tradition and history – yes! A place for vibrant colours and outlandish ideas? Not so much. But if you’re the church in Ward 6 located in Washington D.C. you’re a combination of both and it’s all thanks for the magnificent work of modern-day artists & painter Hense. He took the neutral colours of the church and splashed with rich amber, yellows, reds and neon pinks to create a quite breath-taking piece of modern art. He’s transformed a place of contemplation and isolation and injected a sense of fun, irreverence and energy into it.
