Creative photography by Queenie Liao
13 dec 2013 15:18
Queenie Liao is an artist but first of all a mother and she wanted to show that you can be both… at the same time. With her creative photography she caught the dreams of her child during his sleeps: the result is a brilliant compilation of photos where her baby is the absolout protagonist. Pacific as if nothing happens around him, his daily sleeps are transformed by Queenie Liao into fascinating fairy tales by using plain cloths, stuffed animals, and other common household . A brillaint work that makes us remember our childhood, where our dreams were full of magic.

Clever Illustrations by Nabhan
12 sep 2013 12:12
Deviant Art user Nabhan has created a series of illustrations in which many of these objects double up as puns. For instance, one of the illustrations shows a man who has taken away the “control” button on the keyboard, alluding to the more figurative idea of “taking contol” of one’s life. While some drawings are silly, others are quite creative and will brighten up your day. View the rest of these illustrations below.

Incredible Hyperrealistic Drawings of Everyday Objects
12 sep 2013 11:58
Milan-based Italian illustrator and graphic designer Marcello Barenghi creates hyperrealistic drawings of ordinary objects that boggle the mind. It's hard to believe that the artist uses a standard set of art supplies to reproduce the likeness of everyday items, including anything from a bag of chips or bottle of whiskey to a crumpled up banknote. Each mixed media illustration in the artist's growing collection of works goes beyond just seeming realistic. They give the illusion of three-dimensionality, leaving one to question what they're actually looking at. Every wrinkle and glossy reflection is illusively reproduced, taking approximately 4 to 6 hours to complete. Barenghi also records his meticulous process, compressing the hours of work into 3-4 minute videos. Check out a time lapse view of the artist drawing a disheveled stack of playing cards, below.

Amazing Typography Portraits Created with Song Lyrics
12 sep 2013 11:46
Anyone interested in typography will be in complete awe of these realistic portraits by artist Sean Williams. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the designer, photographer, and art director certainly has a great eye for conceptual designs. To create the series, entitled Hip Hop Type, Williams took the lyrics from popular songs by each subject, including Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, and Kanye West. Relying on both positive and negative space, the artist then warped, curved, and resized the letters to fit perfectly together, forming instantly recognizable faces. The absolutely mind-blowing illustrations are an impressive combination of typography and illustration. Featuring just one simple color, the handful of well-organized words can be regarded in two ways. First, from up close, viewers can read the lyrics and visualize the artist at work on stage. Then, from a bit farther away, the color blends together to form the distinct facial details of each pop star.

Adorable Illustrations of Superhero Families
12 sep 2013 11:41
Paris, France-based designer Andry "Shango" Rajoelina has created an incredibly adorable set of illustrations called Super Families that show superheroes and their families on their way to school. The first part of his series, Justice Families, debuted back in May and in July he released part two, Marvel Families. Each of the illustrations shows superheroes we all know and love as either young children or as grown-up parents with children of their own. With their backs turned, we don't see their faces. Each character is easily identified, however, with their unmistakable outfits.

Construction Vehicles Designed as Gothic Architecture
09 sep 2013 11:18
Belgian artist Wim Delvoye creates large-scale sculptures of vehicles typically found on construction sites, using an intricate lattice design. Inspired by Gothic architecture, the massive laser-cut Corten steel structures break the boundaries between constructing tools and resulting art. They appear to be one and the same, each truck mimicking a sort of mobile cathedral.

15 Art Pieces of WONDER WOMAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA by Des Taylor
06 sep 2013 14:47
Des Taylor (known as DESPOP) has created some wonderful art. The team of Wonder Woman and Captain America is among my favorites, and that is perfectly encapsulated by the recent commission piece he did featuring the two of them, which you can find featured in the slideshow below. The art itself is fantastic, but above that, I personally believe that Steve and Diana would make a much better fit than she and Clark do. As tempting as it is to make this post nothing but a rant on that particular subject, I will resist and instead focus on Despop's lovely art style. Check out the gallery to see more of his Cap and a lot more of his Wonder Woman, and if you enjoy it, you can find more of his work on deviant art or his official store.

The Secret Life of Heroes by Gregoire Guillemin
30 aug 2013 13:39
We've been fans of French artist Gregoire Guillemin for quite some time. In the past, we featured many of his superhero themed series such as his retro-modern superhero illustrations as well as his smooth, minimalist superhero work. Lately, Guillemin has been working on a hilarious new series called The Secret Life of Heroes. The funny and sexy illustrations feature both heroes and villains in ways we've never seen them before. Poor Mickey Mouse looks worn down and sick while smoking a cigarette while Winnie the Pooh looks like he's really enjoying that beer. The best illustrations are the ones where the hero or heroine is acting completely out of character like Disney's Ariel scarfing down some sushi.

Incredible Ballerina Performs En Pointe with Knife Shoes
29 aug 2013 14:06
En Puntas is a video installation by artist Javier Pérez featuring ballerina Amélie Ségarra performing an incredible dance atop a grand piano, entirely en pointe, wearing a customized set of pointe shoes that extend beyond the toe box with a pair of sharp kitchen knives. As if dancing on the tips of your toes for an extended period of time isn't enough, Ségarra has the added pressure of balancing on a thinner platform, from an even greater height. The thought of someone even managing to stand on the potentially dangerous footwear is absolutely astounding. The fact that Ségarra maintains her balance and even leaves her mark as she purposely scrapes the sharp-edged blades across the piano is both exhilarating and frightening to watch. The intense performance is made all the more gripping as the elegant dancer tiptoes closer to the edge, making it difficult to avert one's eyes.

Pulling the world apart, one animal at a time
23 aug 2013 11:40
The street artist going by the name of Nychos didn’t have what we’d call a ‘normal’ upbringing. He was born into an Austrian hunting family in South Africa and spent much of his childhood seeing things which many ‘normal’ people would consider cruel or even brutal. For Nychos though, it was a fascinating world. At seven he was bitten by a boar while he was playing in the forest close to home. Just a little while later he had boar meat for lunch. In another instance he saw a dead baby lamb being consumed by maggots the same color as its fur. Instead of being horrified, he was fascinated. He studied the hidden insides of animals and noticed the way life often grows from other life. At the same time he was also a child of the 80s, growing up watching cartoons and being influenced by their flashy bright colors.

LEGO Pop-Culture Portraits by Chris McVeigh

That is, he would take pop-culture characters we all know and love and create small portraits of them using only LEGO bricks. After making just one, his fans gave him such positive feedback that he knew he was onto something. As he tells us, "I quickly put together one of Wolverine and posted it on Instagram and Facebook. I was blown away by the response, and so I challenged myself to do more."

Street Artist Turns Found Garbage Into Quirky Characters
23 aug 2013 11:29
Street artist Francisco de Pájaro (aka “Art Is Trash”) takes piles of garbage found on the street and turns it into quirky art by painting faces and arranging it in humorous ways. The Spanish-born artist recently hit the streets of London and created a series with that city’s trash. Global Street Art’s James Buxton recently interviewed Pájaro for Société Perrier and quotes him, “We consume a lot, and rubbish is part of that, it’s people wasting things. There’s a romantic aspect, somebody’s given it up, they don’t want it, because one little bit is broken, because they don’t want to fix it, that’s the Capitalist mindset, so I give it life, so there’s a sensitive and romantic side to the work. It’s not all about monsters and nightmares in the work. Even when I’m making monsters, I’m taking things and bringing them back to life, giving them meaning.” Pájaro is currently exhibiting at a solo show titled “Police & Horse” at West Bank London Art in West London’s Notting Hill.

Best Nail Decals Ever
23 aug 2013 11:04
A few weeks ago I was perusing the Renegade Craft Fair and I came across ChaCha Covers. The shop sells nail decals, NOT blankets for your lady parts as I initially thought. They sell nail decals for every occasion. Pizza party? There’s pizza party nails. Jem and the Holograms marathon? ChaCha Covers has got you covered. Wearing a Marilyn Monroe costume? Marilyn Monroe didn’t wear her face on her nails but you totally can. Wu-Tang Clan blasting on your boombox? Oh they got Wu-Tang nails alright and Wu-Tang nails ain’t nuthing ta f*** wit. They even do custom stuff, so you can have any image on the decals. You know what I’m gonna get? A picture of nails on my nails. Nailception! Plus it’s because my nails are all kinds of ragged. I’m a biter!

In a few of his pieces, Mark mixes in pop culture icons who are either helping to protect us (Mona Lisa) or are one of the many helpless victims (Bambi). Creatively Blurring the Line Between Ice Cream and Flowers
16 aug 2013 13:49
A few months ago, photographer Parker Fitzgerald was honored with the task of shooting the cover for Kinfolk Magazine. The issue focused on the coming of spring and, in light of that theme, Fitzgerald created this series of Ice Cream and Flowers. Piled high on top of ice cream cones, the gorgeous displays of flowers look good enough to eat! (Although please note Fitzgerald's cautionary P.S.: Don’t eat hydrangeas with, on, or instead of ice cream. They look pretty but are mildly poisonous. You’ve been warned!)

He suggested this project to Brad Pitt, who's favorite hobby is photography. "I was surprised that Brad accepted the challenge," says Freedman "Last time we collaborated, I was struck by his sensitivity to the subtleties of photography. I knew that he possessed a highly tuned critical eye and would be very demanding of himself. Still, I wasn’t prepared for the beauty and intimacy of the images he made of Angelina and the children." Check out these very intimate and beautiful pictures taken by Angie's loving husband at their Provence, France hideaway.

These Photos Look Kinda Fishy
14 aug 2013 12:58
What do most people do with fish they bring home from the market? If you’re normal you’d probably gut it and eat. (Actually if you’re really normal you buy that stuff pre-cut so you don’t ever have to look at their cold dead eyes staring back at you.) If you’re… not so normal like Paris based artist Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard, you might make a weird-ass photo series of fish working on assembly lines or in laboratories. The series is called “Les Temps Modernes” (Modern Times in English) probably because in these modern times no one’s going to question your sanity for doing something like dressing up little fishies and taking pictures of them.

Playful Minimalist Posters Depict Classic Movie Characters
15 aug 2013 14:00
Art director, illustrator, and graphic designer Olaf Cuadras created a series of playful movie posters that transform each story into minimalist designs. In the series, simply called Minimal Movie Posters, the Barcelona-based artist developed concepts for some classics including The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, and Terminator 2. The prints feature very simple, flat illustrations that portray the main characters of the stories, many of whom boast a bright pink nose in what seems to be Cuadras' signature style. The bold blocks of color and simple fonts reflect the vibe of the movies, while many of the cartoon depictions are actually quite recognizable. Cuadras also pairs the characters with various props. For example, in the Die Hard depiction, Bruce Willis's character points his machine gun to the sky with a burning building in the background. In The Big Lebowski depiction, The Dude and Walter stand atop the central plot point, the ruined rug. Any movie fans out there will just love the very fun and vibrant collection that visually captures the essence of each film.

They’re all super impressive not to mention incredibly nostalgic. Reminds me of my pappy learning me how to read all those years ago. I was a late bloomer, so like, two, maybe three years ago. But I’m not ashamed. As they say: better late than never. Or as pappy used to tell me: you aren’t getting any younger and you were never that good looking to start off with. Maybe it’s time you learned how to read.

As you can probably guess by her surname, she was a member of the ultra-wealthy Rothschild banking family. To be invited as a guest, was the ultimate seal of approval from Parisian high-society.
