Anyway, according to every celebrity website ever, Dauriac, a French journalist who looks comically small in this photo, recently put a ring on it, “it” being Scarlett Johansson’s finger, “Scarlett Johansson” being not my future wife. People spoke to an anonymous source who revealed, “I can confirm that Scarlett and Romain are engaged. They haven’t chosen a date for the wedding.” (At least we know the informant isn’t Ryan Reynolds.) Extraordinarily Odd Photographs From A 1972 Rothschild Party (20 photo)

There have been few dinners parties quite like it. It’s December 12 1972, the night at which Marie-Hélène de Rothschild held her famous Surrealist Ball at Ferrières. As you can probably guess by her surname, she was a member of the ultra-wealthy Rothschild banking family. Few made the guest-list but if you did, it was the ultimate seal of approval from Parisian high-society. The requirements for the evening were “Black tie, long dresses & Surrealists heads” nothing more, nothing less. In keeping with the theme, the invitation which she sent was actually written backwards – to read the invite you had to hold it up to a mirror. Now when money is no object, the only limit is ones imagination and it’s fair to say that Marie-Hélène certainly had plenty in supply. Firstly she insisted the iconic Château where the party was to be housed, be floodlight with sweeping amber lights, designed to create the illusion the building was on fire. Once instead, she made sure the entire staircase was filled with servants and footmen dressed as cats – all in various poses of sleep. And once you’d overcome that initial shock, guests were then forced to enter a hellish labyrinthine maze – where should you get lost, one of the “cats” would rescue you and whisk you away where you’d be formally greeted by Marie-Hélène herself. On this particular night, she was wearing a ginormous giant’s head that was crying tears of diamonds. Naturally.

If you haven’t already guessed, we’re big fans of portrait art here on SBSG, but we have to admit it’s not every day you see artwork painted using merely a basketball! But that’s precisely the tool Malaysian artist Hong Yi used to create her portrayal of Chinese basketball player Yao Ming. Below is a time-lapse video of her bouncing the ball and bringing her creation to life using nothing more than red paint. Quite how she achieved such an impressive feat is still somewhat of a mystery, but then again that’s half the fun isn’t it? In her own words “I love to paint, but not with a paintbrush.”, she’s true to her word too. You can see the full range of her artistic experiments via redhongyi.com, there’s not a brush in sight.

The International Trailer For 'The Counselor' Looks Awesome (1 photo + 1 video)

In case you were wondering, Ridley Scott’s and Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor still looks pretty ridiculously amazing. I know, I was also starting to worry that maybe the first trailer and clips were just an illusion and that I imagined the whole thing, but fortunately the international trailer was released this morning and now I feel a hell of a lot better. Javier Bardem still looks like your dad strung out on ecstasy in a mid-life crisis, while Brad Pitt is pretty intimidating as a long-haired cowboy. And Cameron Diaz looks better than she has in quite some time, probably because she’s being mean and I just love it when girls pretend like they don’t like me. “Here, have all of the money in my wallet,” I’ll say as she puts a cigarette out on my face. Anyway, enjoy the new international trailer.

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey’s is currently going through the same thing, starring alongside 40 60-year old men in The Expendables 3. One of the many conspiracy theories about Chris Weidman’s Middleweight Championship victory is that Anderson Silva threw the fight so he’d have more free time to make horrible-looking MMA movies. Hell, even Ken Shamrock was in Champions back in the day. MMA has proven to be a surprisingly-easy springboard into mainstream movie stardom, so it shouldn’t surprise you that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones suddenly wants to be an actor. Or that he wants to be like The Rock, who is in, like, 65 of the 67 movies released this year. “I’d like to model my acting career on Dwayne Johnson, the way he came out of [WWE] and started off tough guy roles and then moved over to doing ‘Tooth Fairy,’” the 24-year-old Jones told MMAjunkie.com during an appearance at the UFC’s “World Tour” in Los Angeles. “That’s when you really saw that he could act, and he’s the one I admire and respect a lot, so I know I’d love to model my acting career after (him).” Yes, we all really saw The Rock’s acting chops in Tooth Fairy, because being tough and wearing a tutu means “acting.” We saw Hulk Hogan’s acting ability in Mr. Nanny. Pearl Jam‘s love-hate relationship with making music videos is beginning to lean back toward “love.” After winning Best Video of the Year at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards for the stupidly controversial “Jeremy,” Pearl Jam asserted that they were done with the medium. To quote bassist Jeff Ament, “I don’t want people to remember our songs as videos.” (That sentiment lasted until 1998, although to be fair, “Do the Evolution” was entirely animated.) In 2002, five live performances of songs from Riot Act were filmed and released as videos, and the same thing happened again for cuts from Pearl Jam and Backspacer. The video for “Mind Your Manners,” a single from the band’s forthcoming Lightning Bolt, isn’t as conceptually interesting as “Jeremy,” but there are visual nods to September 11th, so…that’s something? While all the adults are watching Breaking Bad this Sunday, the kids table will will be tuned into a very different program: The Newsroom. You know children, they can’t get enough dramatized hindsight and Sam Waterston. But once they’re done giggling at Alison Pill and her inability to act like a normal human being, because women, they’ll tune into the MTV Video Music Awards, for The Gaga, The Daft Punk, The Hippity Hop, and mostly, The *NSYNC. "Justin Timberlake and his former *NSYNC band members are set to reunite for a special performance on the VMAs Sunday night at the Barclays Center, sources tell Page Six. MTV announced that Timberlake, who topped the charts in the late ’90s with the band, will perform at the VMAs and receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But we’re told former bandmates J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are scheduled to join him onstage for a reunion performance." --MTV news. It was nice of Manager Jerry to let Chris Kirkpatrick take a day off from his shift at Arby’s to attend the ceremony. He’ll just have to pull double sometime next week. A few weeks ago I was perusing the Renegade Craft Fair and I came across ChaCha Covers. The shop sells nail decals, NOT blankets for your lady parts as I initially thought. They sell nail decals for every occasion. Pizza party? There’s pizza party nails. Jem and the Holograms marathon? ChaCha Covers has got you covered. Wearing a Marilyn Monroe costume? Marilyn Monroe didn’t wear her face on her nails but you totally can. Wu-Tang Clan blasting on your boombox? Oh they got Wu-Tang nails alright and Wu-Tang nails ain’t nuthing ta f*** wit. They even do custom stuff, so you can have any image on the decals. You know what I’m gonna get? A picture of nails on my nails. Nailception! Plus it’s because my nails are all kinds of ragged. I’m a biter!

New York-based artist Justen Ladda has an amazing eye for perspective and distortion. Since the 1980s, he has combined painting with sculpture to produce flat installations that, from a distance, appear three dimensional. With precision and a vivid imagination, Ladda has developed so many different scenes that will just blow your mind! Before creating a piece, the artist visualizes the final work in his mind, paying close attention to the very small details. He works in assorted mediums to create his optical illusions, using everything from pigmented shellac and vinyl paints to fluorescent acrylic and plywood. By mastering angles and paying close attention to very tiny details, the talented artist is able to master all kinds of visual tricks.

Great New Images From BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS Featuring Batcave (5 photo)

In anticipation of an "exciting reveal" for 'Batman: Arkham Origins' later this week, Warner Bros. Games Montreal has released a few new screenshots from the game, three of which showcase the Batcave. Mind you, this is the first time the Wayne Manor Batcave has been featured in these Arkham games, and it looks just as cool as you would imagine in this universe.

In anticipation of an "exciting reveal" for 'Batman: Arkham Origins' later this week, Warner Bros. Games Montreal has released a few new screenshots from the game, three of which showcase the Batcave.

New Hi-Res Photos from Darren Aronofsky's "NOAH" (9 photo)

For those of you who are interested in seeing more of Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic "Noah", here are a few high resolution photos from the film and the set showing off several of the characters in the film. Aronofsky is a crazy talented director, and the fact this is Aronofsky's dream project tells me it's going to be one of his greatest creations. At least that's what I'm expecting! The movie tells the epic biblical story of a prophet who is told by God to build a giant boat that can carry two of every animal from the earth to save them from a giant flood that will destroy every living thing on Earth so that they could have a new beginning. God flooded the world because of its wickedness. The film has an incredible cast of actors as well that includes Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Saoirse Ronan, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Durand, and Mark Margolis. It comes out on March 28th, 2014.

If you want to experience an exotic tropical holiday, have you ever thought about going to Germany? When you think of emerald lagoons, shady palm trees, crystal blue water & quaint wooden huts, it’s probably not the first country that springs to mind is it? Until now. House within a ginormous hanger large enough to hold eight full size soccer fields or the entire Eiffel Tower lying down horizontally is the Tropical Islands Resort. A place so tall, that even New York’s Status of Liberty could stand tall with touching the ceiling. The resort of around 60KM just south of Berlin, in Brandenburg, Germany so you can swap your polar jackets for bikini’s and shorts in just under an hours drive. It’s now officially one of the largest structures on the planet by volume, we’re talking around 5.5 million m³ – which is just as well, because it’s also home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest. There an artificial sea, a long man-made beach and the climate is kept at a perfect 26c all year round – not overly hot, not overly cold. They’ve even take a leaf out of las Vegas’s habit of appropriating historic monuments but recreating Cambodia’s Angkor Wat and traditional Thai homes. And along with not having to worry about the weather, you don’t even have to worry about things like closing times either – the centre is open 24/7. Fancy a swim at 3am? No problem, just remember you’re unlikely to be alone, the pool itself can hold up to 8,000 enthusiastic swimmers. Would you be keen to go along for a day or two? Between open mic comedy and being at The Gathering this past weekend, I think I could go six more lifetimes without hearing someone expecting to be applauded for doing drug use ever again (The Kottonmouth Kings enjoy marijuana – who knew?). But this Supercut, “Drugs in the Movies,” by Robert Jones, is so well put together that you can’t help but enjoy the hell out of it. It’s got all your favorites – Fast Times, Fear and Loathing, Go, Boogie Nights – and extra mega bonus points for including Tim Meadows’ speech in Walk Hard, one of the most underrated and underquoted comedy performances of the last 10 years. I seriously don’t know why that guy isn’t a huge star. Way to go, Obama.

Batten down the cumberhatches: Benedict Cumberbatch is at war with the press, ironically over a situation that could lead to war. Now, I’m sure all you High Brow Harrys and Liberal Arts Lisas have been following the situation in Egypt, so I don’t need to explain it to you; that would be demeaning and insulting to your intelligence. Cumberbatch has no such qualms: while filming Sherlock over the weekend, Cumberbatch wrote a tut-tut-shaming note directed at the paparazzi that read, “Go photograph Egypt and show the world something important.”

Patton Oswalt Trolled Twitter With Two-Part Political Tweets (23 photo)

It's almost unfair how good Patton Oswalt is at Twitter. I mean, he's good at most things (that talented jerk), from delivering Star Wars-inspired filibusters to packing Go Bags, but he's ESPECIALLY good at Twitter. A little over a month after shaming Salon, Oswalt spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon trolling his quick to react Followers, with a number of tweets that look damning...until you read them in context. For instance, the tweet you see above, about Hitler rightfully killing off the Jews — that looks pretty bad, until you realize it comes after, "Oh, you think repealing voting laws in the south is justified, you racist asshole? I suppose you ALSO believe that..." A typical reply: "How is it racist to only want U.S. citizens to be able to vote for people who will represent U.S. citizens?" Fantastic. Check out this adorably charming CG animated short film called Girl and Robot, which follows an impatient girl who takes on the task of building a robot. The question is, can she complete it without destroying her own creation? The short was directed and edited by Mads Dam Jakobsen, and it's a very touching story. I hope you like it!

Recently, Game Freak announced a pretty awesome addition to the gameplay of their next Pokémon games (X Version and Y Version) : Mega Evolutions. These are mid-battle transformations that basically just make your Pokémon a lot more badass. Despite the name, they're actually not evolutions at all--just really cool forms that some Pokémon can now access. Naturally, within days of the announcement, fans started churning out some really cool art of the seven revealed Mega Pokémon. Here are some of my favorites that I've seen.

Prince Joins Twitter, Releases Preview of New Song “Groovy Potential” (6 photo + 1 video)

It happened. The notoriously anti-Internet Prince has joined Twitter (which may be a little confusing to those of you who thought the @PrinceTweets2u account was actually Prince). The musician started posting Tweets under the account of his band, 3rd Eye Girl last night, a spree that as Billboard points out was verified by Twitter’s Tatiana Grace. And in just a matter of a few hours, Prince touched on all the essentials of the social media: selfies, food pictures and memes. He also posted a snippet of a new 3rd Eye Girl song, “Groovy Potential” which-as the title suggests-is indeed very groovy. Listen to the preview below.
