Hyperrealistic Turbulent Skies Reveal the Power of Nature
30 aug 2013 14:18
The Kingdom is a visually stunning series by world-renowned graphic designer, photographer, and producer Seb Janiak. The images focus on massive accumulations of clouds in the sky, visually portraying the power of nature as it swirls overhead. In each composition, viewers will quickly get lost in the lively, dramatic clouds that lead directly to a bright central point. The French artist created "digital matte painting," a technique in which several images are layered together to produce one hyperrealistic photograph. In each of these compositions, he draws on that technique to create a fantasy world displayed in the turbulent skies. He focuses on nature and its mysterious forces to create each breathtaking scene. The transforming clouds reveal the changing light throughout a full day, moving from bright daylight to the shadows of moonlight that reveal twinkling clusters of stars.

London's Piles Of Rubbish Transformed Into Works Of Art
30 aug 2013 14:15
You’re probably familiar with the phrase “One man’s trash is another man’s gold” and there’s few better examples of that than the work of visual artist Francisco de Pajaro. Much like Clet Abraham who has fun hijacking Europe’s street signs, Francisco likes to bring a bit of life, vitality and humour to our sterile urban environments. In a recently interview with James Buxton of Global Street Art he stated that:

Surreal Illustrations Merge Dreams and Childhood Memories
30 aug 2013 14:10
St. Petersburg-based digital artist Alex Andreev recently unveiled the 9th installment of his ongoing series titled A Separate Reality. The collection features remarkably surreal illustrations of an alternate universe where skateboarders are guided by flying stingrays, masses of land float in the sky, and there's little difference between an enormous airplane and a monstrous octopus. Each image is brimming with elements from real-life placed in unconventional compositions, making them seem like weird yet wonderful dreams. Andreev's imaginative works borrow just as much from his own creative dreams as they do from his childhood memories. By merging these two sources of creativity, both conscious and subconscious, the artist produces entirely unique scenes. There's a sense of enthusiasm for exotic environments that think way outside the box, awarding residents of Andreev's fictional settings the freedom of free falling and diving through the clouds without a worry in the world.

Disney Princesses and Villains Illustrated as Elemental Benders
30 aug 2013 14:08
Texas-based artist and animator Robby Cook has illustrated Disney princesses, villains, and other characters as elemental benders from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Jasmine is depicted as a firebender with her lightning tiger Rajah, Mulan is a member of the earth-bending Kyoshi Warrior clan, Pocahontas is appropriately an airbender, and Ariel is a waterbender. Ursula, the villain of The Little Mermaid, is a corrupted waterbender who controls Ariel through the dark art of bloodbending. To see the rest of the crossover artworks, head over to Cook’s website.

Playfully Surreal Scenes Blend Illusions with Reality
30 aug 2013 13:56
Photographer Oleksandr Hnatenko brings his imagination to life with this extensive collection of surreal scenes. His series, entitled S. Real, captures a strong contrast between shadows and lights to produce the visually dynamic moments. In each photograph, the Austria-based artist invites his viewers into a bizarre world filled with unique perspectives, optical illusions, and confusing spaces. By naturally blending the concrete with the conceptual, Hnatenko creates playfully contrived realities in which his subjects hide behind fish eyes and top hats, bodies magically disappear into the floor, and normal expectations are completely defied. He says, "In the search for reality, you come across many things, some that are simple, some old, some new, some that are eye-catching, in color or in monochrome, visible things and some hidden from view, some things with sense and some without…Surreal moments are born out of this."

If you're looking for a little something to brighten up your day, come check out the cleverly placed street art by OakOak. The French street artist sees the city as his playground as he finds everything from stair rails and street lights to random markings on a wall to become a part of his clever creations. While at times he'll feature pop-culture characters like King Kong or Calvin and Hobbes, for the most part his whimsical works take on the form of animals found in some hilariously unexpected places.

The Secret Life of Heroes by Gregoire Guillemin
30 aug 2013 13:39
We've been fans of French artist Gregoire Guillemin for quite some time. In the past, we featured many of his superhero themed series such as his retro-modern superhero illustrations as well as his smooth, minimalist superhero work. Lately, Guillemin has been working on a hilarious new series called The Secret Life of Heroes. The funny and sexy illustrations feature both heroes and villains in ways we've never seen them before. Poor Mickey Mouse looks worn down and sick while smoking a cigarette while Winnie the Pooh looks like he's really enjoying that beer. The best illustrations are the ones where the hero or heroine is acting completely out of character like Disney's Ariel scarfing down some sushi.

Stunning Aerial Photos of Poland’s Lakes Throughout The Seasons
30 aug 2013 13:38
If you haven’t seen much of Poland yet, then Kacper Kowalski’s aerial photos will make the perfect introduction. Born in 1977, the artist originally holds a degree in architecture, but has turned to piloting and photography instead. While flying above northern Poland, he found two incredibly beautiful lakes and decided to capture them as they change throughout the seasons. One of the lakes is in Kashubia and another one in Pomerania. Being in control of both the plane and the camera gives Gdynia-based artist a unique ability to control and handle each shot as he pleases, so each photo is thought-through and completed.

Copehill Down in the English county of Wiltshire may look like a normal English village but it's different. Copehill Down is a mock-up or, more accurately, a FIBUA – an acronym standing for Fighting in Built Up Areas. It is used by the UK Ministry of Defence to train the armed forces in the art of close quarters combat in an urban area.

10 Bloody Mary recipes by Iron Chef Jose Garce.
30 aug 2013 10:32
Normally, one does not go to a news site for drink recipes, but finding this one was the exception. Fox News wrote an article for 10 Bloody Mary Recipes inspired by International Cities. Designed by Iron Chef Jose Garces, for Renaissance Hotels special Bar Menu, these 10 cocktails are intriguing to try. While I, Dottiepineapple, may not be skilled as a Iron Chef, has created her own fantastic bloody mary recipe. DottiePineapples Recipe. Its more of a basic bloody mary recipe, yet with one owns interpretations. Start with 16oz jar of ORGANIC tomatoes. Very important that they are organic for the flavor. If you are not into flavor, skip ahead for pretty pictures below. Tequila 6oz, one's preference, recommendations that it be gold. Being not a scientist, there are a couple of veg descriptions. Dash of each: Red pepper flakes, Cayenne pepper, White pepper, Black pepper, Smoked paprika, Celery salt and Salt. Choose only one of the following: Worcestershire sauce (classic), Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Olive Juice. Warning: be aware how much salt you add. Hand Blend tomatoes and flavor, pore over 2/3 full tall glass, garnish with Celery, Cilantro, and Lemon/Lime wedge. Makes 6... enjoy!

THOR: THE DARK WORLD - Extended TV Spot
30 aug 2013 01:21
Marvel has released a new extended TV spot for Thor: The Dark World, and as you've seen, it looks like he has his work cut out for him in this next movie. He's going to be fighting some real bad dudes in trying to once again save the universe. Unfortunately, there's really nothing new to see here, but the movie still look amazing! I can't wait to see how this story turns out, especially the ending. I think it's going to be pretty jacked up. The highly anticipated film hits theaters on November 8th, 2013.

Watch a Reporter Get Naked Smack in the Middle of Interview with Mayor
30 aug 2013 01:14
Well, here’s proof that maybe Canada is not as bad as we think. In the middle of interview with the mayor of Kelowna, British Columbia, reporter Lori Welbourne decided to tackle the issue of going topless in public. Mayor Walter Gray is stunned, at first, but quickly gathers himself and continues with the Q&A and a spirited discussion with Welbourne. And good news for our intrepid reporter, too – Gray tells her she’s within her rights to discard her shirt. Let’s just hope this doesn’t start a trend. We don’t need to see Diane Sawyer showing off what God gave her the next time she sits down with President Obama.

This Hilariously Awful Marriage Proposal Can't Be Real...Can It?
30 aug 2013 01:12
The only question this woman wants to say “I do” to is “Do you want to beat up your boyfriend?” This video captures the latest in a long line of marriage proposals gone awry. For starters, it’s in a mall (where the couple met) and, unless you’re Tiffany and it’s 1986, no woman will be touched by the gesture. Second, there are way too many people (including a cheesy band and a woman mopping behind him) on hand. And, third, a train comes trolling by in the middle of it, making an awkward situation even more so. By the time Romeo here gets on bended knee, the girlfriend — who, based on her actions, may not be his girlfriend anymore – has clearly had enough. The jury is still out whether this was staged or not, but who cares? It’s funny. In either case, we win just by watching.

Frightening Digital Faces That Morph Based On Mood
30 aug 2013 01:04
Here’s an animation that will probably give you more than a few sleepless nights.

Digital artist Mike Pelletier explores the effects of pushing digitally-controlled facial expressions far beyond their normal boundaries. Smiles turn into grimaces and surprise is dialed up until it turns into anger, but that’s just the start of things. With each passing frame, he continues to tweak and prod, conjuring up grizzly expressions before dissolving them back into calmer poses. It makes for hypnotic and certainly uncomfortable viewing at times.

He succinctly describes his work as “An ambient video loops that explore quantified emotion” that’s certainly one way of putting it. Downright disturbing is another.
