Incredible Photos of Death-Defying Pathways in Chinese Mountains
23 aug 2013 11:36

Would you be brave enough to trek a pathway called The Bridge of Immortals? Situated in Huangshan (aka Yellow Mountain), a mountain range in the southern Anhui province of eastern China, the bridge, above, is located at a vertigo-inducing height between two giant, jagged granite peaks that dares adventures to cross its path. It is not the only risky walkway along the mountain range, though.

LEGO Pop-Culture Portraits by Chris McVeigh
23 aug 2013 11:34

on small card stock, LEGO builder Chris McVeigh (aka Powerpig) decided to create his own LEGO versions. That is, he would take pop-culture characters we all know and love and create small portraits of them using only LEGO bricks. After making just one, his fans gave him such positive feedback that he knew he was onto something. As he tells us, "I quickly put together one of Wolverine and posted it on Instagram and Facebook. I was blown away by the response, and so I challenged myself to do more."

Internet Logo Designs Transformed Into Fashion
23 aug 2013 11:33

In this series, California-based photographer Viktorija Pashuta transformed a variety of web browser icons into trendy fashion statements. The Latvian fashion photographer has always wondered What if girls were internet browsers?, and so, the project brings that vision to life through a creative interpretation of the notable logos. To develop the project, Pashuta envisioned each browser with certain characteristics based on the styles of the popular symbols. She developed ensembles based off of these personifications and chose models Kaylen Dao, Brittany Ryan, Clancy McClain, Tracy Acholonu, and Polina Frantsena to don the inventive garb.

Street Artist Turns Found Garbage Into Quirky Characters
23 aug 2013 11:29

Street artist Francisco de Pájaro (aka “Art Is Trash”) takes piles of garbage found on the street and turns it into quirky art by painting faces and arranging it in humorous ways. The Spanish-born artist recently hit the streets of London and created a series with that city’s trash. Global Street Art’s James Buxton recently interviewed Pájaro for Société Perrier and quotes him, “We consume a lot, and rubbish is part of that, it’s people wasting things. There’s a romantic aspect, somebody’s given it up, they don’t want it, because one little bit is broken, because they don’t want to fix it, that’s the Capitalist mindset, so I give it life, so there’s a sensitive and romantic side to the work. It’s not all about monsters and nightmares in the work. Even when I’m making monsters, I’m taking things and bringing them back to life, giving them meaning.” Pájaro is currently exhibiting at a solo show titled “Police & Horse” at West Bank London Art in West London’s Notting Hill.

Best Nail Decals Ever
23 aug 2013 11:04

A few weeks ago I was perusing the Renegade Craft Fair and I came across ChaCha Covers. The shop sells nail decals, NOT blankets for your lady parts as I initially thought. They sell nail decals for every occasion. Pizza party? There’s pizza party nails. Jem and the Holograms marathon? ChaCha Covers has got you covered. Wearing a Marilyn Monroe costume? Marilyn Monroe didn’t wear her face on her nails but you totally can. Wu-Tang Clan blasting on your boombox? Oh they got Wu-Tang nails alright and Wu-Tang nails ain’t nuthing ta f*** wit. They even do custom stuff, so you can have any image on the decals. You know what I’m gonna get? A picture of nails on my nails. Nailception! Plus it’s because my nails are all kinds of ragged. I’m a biter!

Finland's 'Magic Forest' Is Actually A Place You'll Want To Avoid
23 aug 2013 10:44

If (like many) you found Singapore’s Frightening Theme Park Dedicated To Chinese Mythology a little too confronting, but still want to seek out the unusual and strange, you could always pay a visit to the “Magic Forest” in Imatra, Finland. Whether by choice or just bad design, it’s a forest littered with unsettling stone mannequins whose’s expressions are almost as creepy as the scenarios they’re placed in. How about a moustached made in a sharp blue seat, handcuffing a teenager to a tree and beating him with a cane? Or maybe you’d be more interested in a tall lanky local flasher?

Spine Vodka: Awesome Concept
23 aug 2013 04:50

This project should more be an eye-catcher, something the people would talk about. "Spine" is a high quality product just like the design, reduced and simple with a consciously "twist" in his message and a memorable name fitting to the project. I integrated the spine with the ribcage to communicate a product with a "backbone", a beverage that lives up to its promise, to be a honest and strong Dink. This design is above and beyond a regualar 2D brand communication, it is more about the uniqe 3D design idea that supports the concept. The transparent glass material stands for a product that don't has to hide something and neither do it. It should shimply fascinate his beholder.

Timur Bekmambetov's 'Squirrels' Trailer Looks Ridiculous
22 aug 2013 18:19

I’m still pretty hesitant to believe that this is really and isn’t part of some grand viral marketing scheme for another film, but apparently director Timur Bekmambetov has been hard at work trying to produce the film Squirrels, which is about – you guessed it – squirrels. Except these aren’t just any squirrels, because just like Alfred Hitchcock’s Birds and James Nguyen’s Birdemic, Squirrels is the story of what happens when nature’s nut hoarders get fed up with humans and decide to fight back. A pre-production sales trailer for Squirrels hit the YouTubes over the weekend, and I assume that wherever Bekmambetov showed this clip, people just started throwing money and bank account numbers at him, because I can’t even count how many times I’ve thought, “If only someone had the balls to make a movie about a squirrel biting a little girl’s face off.”

Jonathan Banks Has Joined 'Community' Cast
22 aug 2013 18:11

TV hasn’t been the same since that one moment people on the Internet still get mad about when it’s spoiled, even though the episode aired nearly a year ago and really, if you don’t already know that Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad was a victim of Walter White’s full measures by now, you’re doing something…Oops. Anyway, I’ve missed Jonathan Banks’s dead-eyed scowl, so I’m eating this news up like a particularly hungry hippo. Jonathan Banks will appear in 11 episodes of Community‘s fifth season, EW has learned. Banks will tackle the role of Pat Nichols, an intense criminology professor with a mysterious background in military and police work. The Wiseguy alum makes his first appearance in the second episode of the season when Annie (Alison Brie) enrolls in his class. (Via) I have a note for anyone who’s not excited about Mike at Greendale.

X-Men Days of Future Past first Official Image
22 aug 2013 18:09

Today brings us the first official image (not including all the viral stuff and Comic-Con pictures) from Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, a title that’s little by little turning me into a Vietnamese spam bot every time I type it. Obviously, it’s a big deal for anyone who’s a fan of Earth tones. A movie that shows us what the characters looked like in the seventies! Can you imagine? Has this ever been done in a movie before? Maybe it will explain how Professor X went bald as a cueball. He’s like 30 in this and his hairline doesn’t even have power alleys. If a person can go bald that fast, I have something new to worry about. Also, didn’t Nicholas Hoult already turn blue in the last one? Don’t explain it, I want this to be a surprise. X-Men opens May 23, 2014, and the plot will include time travel, Bolivar Trask, Sentinels, and Peter Dinklage’s sweet porn ‘stache. No word on whether we’ll hear from some of the lesser-known mutants, like the guy who has super strength, but only when he’s standing in a puddle of his own pee, the guy who turns water into mustard, or Close Caption, whose special power is lip-reading.

Super Mario Bros. Themed World War II Propaganda Posters

The Koopas are fighting. Why aren’t you? That’s the questioned posed by these WWII-style Mario propaganda posters by Fro Design. The posters reimagine Piranha Plants as part of every victory garden and the coin blocks as donation boxes for the war effort. Even the ghosts of Koopas are caught in this battered landscape, still fighting for a nebulous cause. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, y’all.

Creepy Haunted Art Gallery for Kids in Japan
22 aug 2013 12:18

The folks at Torafu Architects realized that art appreciation is just too boring for today’s youth, so they decided to make it more interesting. Did I say interesting because I meant terrifying. They created a haunted art gallery exhibit for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. The exhibit features replicas of fine art that are not quite right. Like the eyes in some paintings move and Mona Lisa’s got hands coming out of her face. Scary stuff. Although slightly less scary when you enter a secret passageway that lets you manipulate the artwork yourself from behind.

Interactive Photo Series Compares NYC's Past and Present

New York City is constantly evolving and growing, making it difficult to document every change that has occurred, but NYC Grid is taking a stab at it. Run by Paul Sahner the ambitious website seeks to map the entire city "street by street and block by block" through photos. In addition to simply capturing present-day neighborhoods, though, the site also gives a peek of what specific areas looked like in the past, comparing the two in its "Before & After" section.

Impressive Portrait Of Yao Ming Painted Using A Basketball

If you haven’t already guessed, we’re big fans of portrait art here on SBSG, but we have to admit it’s not every day you see artwork painted using merely a basketball! But that’s precisely the tool Malaysian artist Hong Yi used to create her portrayal of Chinese basketball player Yao Ming. Below is a time-lapse video of her bouncing the ball and bringing her creation to life using nothing more than red paint. Quite how she achieved such an impressive feat is still somewhat of a mystery, but then again that’s half the fun isn’t it? In her own words “I love to paint, but not with a paintbrush.”, she’s true to her word too. You can see the full range of her artistic experiments via redhongyi.com, there’s not a brush in sight.

Toy Story Meets The Shining
21 aug 2013 11:50

The third Toy Story movie went to some dark places, but it didn’t go all the way to the alcoholic murder hotel. Artist Kyle Lambert rectifies that obvious oversight with his digital paintings, which cast Pixar’s talking toys as characters from Stanley Kubrick’s horror classic The Shining. See what happens when all work and no play makes Woody a dull toy. Lambert explains that he created this series after reading Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich’s tweets about The Shining, which Unkrich says inspired him to become a filmmaker. After creating these paintings on the iPad Brushes app, he printed a poster of the entire series, which he gave to Unkrich. Fortunately, he’s also released all 25 images online.

Crocheting a Locomotive in Lodz, Poland
21 aug 2013 11:45

Although currently living in the United States, crochet artist Olek recently returned to her native country of Poland for an epic project. Over the course of two straight (and rainy) days, Olek and her team of four assistants ‘yarn bombed’ an entire locomotive with two freight cars in tow. Olek had already crocheted many of the panels beforehand but they still had to be assembled to cover the train. The team worked through the night to pull off the massive undertaking, debuting the crocheted train on July 13th. It will be on display in Lodz, Poland, until August 19th. The project was done in collaboration with the city and was authorized. She calls the piece ‘Deadly Romance’.
