Spoontaneous: Carving Wooden Spoons Into Fun Sculptures
13 aug 2015 12:05
Over the last 5 or 6 years I have explored the creative process within the constraints of the wooden spoon. The making of wooden spoons dates back to antiquity and the design possibilities are still limitless. Some of the spoons I carve are functional, meant to be used in the kitchen, but the majority of them are nonfunctional and even dysfunctional.

Stunning Sculpture Of Mother Nature
12 aug 2015 12:03
Maybe the ancients were on to something when they built statues as peace offerings to the gods. Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn certainly thinks so, and his multiple-sculpture series, The Force of Nature, embodies this ideal. Each of the roughly 2.5 meter (8.2 feet) sculptures depict what appears to be Mother Nature in a gravity-defying pose, swinging the Earth around her.

12 aug 2015 13:21
Diana Kim grew up on the Island of Maui where her father was a photographer, which is where she first learned her trade. When her parents split, Kim began to live with friends and relatives, and she lost touch with her father who became “absent.” In 2003 Kim began a long-term photo-project about the homeless; in 2012, she made a shocking discovery. Kim found her father among the homeless she was documenting in Honolulu.

Ben Millam who refers to himself as an “aspiring geek” built an incredible machine that takes cat feeding to a whole new level. He trained his cat Monkey to look for plastic balls hidden around the house and throw them into the machine. Once the machine recognizes the RFID-tagged balls, the feeder is activated and the ball is filled with cat treats. Monkey was trained using ‘clicker’ training that is based on associating a desirable behaviour with a distinctive click and a reward. It took...

Many studies suggest that is a contributor to global warming; it impacts the water cycle by reducing the amount of water in the soil and air; it contributes to soil loss; and it results in a decline in biodiversity. We can either work with nature, or work against it. On this spectrum, these architects have decided to find a middle ground: instead of chopping down trees and building their houses, the trees are incorporated as a part of the...

My friend snuck an article about this into a local newspaper, and then someone who works for Chorus (the company that owns these utility boxes) read the article, and asked me if I would like to paint...
