18 Extremely Unfortunate Choices of Font
25 sep 2013 14:10
The problem with getting all fancy with fonts is that sometimes your store that sells pouches looks like a store full of douches. (We’re pretty sure this is exclusively a Renaissance fair problem.) “LI” is easily turned into a U, and suddenly your video store looks like it’s only distributing videos off an adult nature. We never thought we’d say this, but this almost makes us appreciate comic sans. At least it’s legible. See what we mean below. (Note: while many of these words look NSFW, they really aren’t. So show them to your boss to give him or her a lesson in choosing an appropriate font for clients.)

Will Ferrell Brought His Kids to the Emmys and it Was Hilarious
25 sep 2013 14:01
A high point in a generally dull evening, Will Ferrell brought his kids onstage to present awards at the 2013 Emmys. Saying he was just filling in and couldn’t find childcare, Ferrell’s three kids stood onstage next to him while he announced the year’s best comedy series (It was ‘Modern Family.’ Again.) and best drama series. Clearly every award at every awards show should be given out this way.

Snapchat is a clever little app. It basically lets people add captions and draw all over pictures then send ‘em to fellow Snapchatters. There are plenty of times this could (and does) get sorta weird, but there are also really clever users who go the creatively funny route. In just a few seconds, this app allows you to showcase your love for waffles or make your nostrils part of the Google logo. It’s magical. Check out even more awesome ways to use Snapchat below.

Prankster Blasts ‘Girly’ Music in Public
25 sep 2013 13:56
We’re not quite sure what makes this a prank, but the word’s in the title, so apparently that’s what this is. Really, it’s not much more than a guy playing music on his Kindle without the headphones plugged in all the way. Apparently this is a big deal in places other than NYC, where even if somebody’s headphones are plugged in all the way, the music is turned up so loud that your morning commute is basically guaranteed to be scored by Tyga. Perhaps the joke is that guys aren’t supposed to listen to Britney Spears or Miley Cyrus? That’s not a funny joke: that’s just a lame reiteration of old stereotypes that pretty much vanished the moment ‘Toxic’ came out and friends made us listen to it on repeat in college dorm rooms decorated with Sisters of Mercy posters. Apparently, it’s funny though — in one short day the video has already gotten over 35,000 views on YouTube. Maybe after nine months of living with a (male) roommate who blasts Spice Girls and Natalie Imbruglia on the regular, we don’t get the joke.

Cast of 'Seinfeld' Has Mixed Feelings About Drake
25 sep 2013 13:54
Drake‘s new album officially dropped today (even though all the cool kids already listened to it last week,) and we know exactly what you’re thinking — sure you’ve read the reviews, but what does the cast of ‘Seinfeld’ think of Drake? Well, they can’t decide. At least they didn’t at when ‘Thank Me Later’ was released. We speculate that they would still have mixed to negative emotions about this new one, because they are characters written by Larry David, who doesn’t really like anything. Also, they’re talking about their friend named Drake who everybody likes, but then decides they don’t like. (Though Elaine has always been lukewarm on the “Drakette.”) All we can say is, that regardless of Kramer’s thoughts on NWTS, we’ll be forever grateful that the album spawned these particular gems of internet genius:

5 Warning Signs We Can’t Take Seriously
25 sep 2013 13:51
Warning signs are pretty important, right? This is especially true when they tell us when something’s dangerous or harmful. Obvious stuff. But sometimes law enforcement (or regular folk) go the extra mile and choose to warn people of more-important-than-normal circumstances, like not drinking the toilet water or refraining from licking walls. Trust us– these cautionary signs are a vital part of our society, and without them, we’d be riding the buffalo… or something. Just kidding– there’s no way we can take these warnings seriously, but that’s the best part! Check out 5 of our favorites.

The Best And Worst Of Smackdown: Hilarious Racism!
25 sep 2013 13:00

I'm not a fan of Triple H using his new corporate b-hole character to bury midcard faces, but I'll make an exception for The Miz. I mean, Miz seemed to be making an exerted effort tonight to prove he deserves every bit of Triple H poop that lands in his mouth, so who am I to argue? The opening segment started with Miz interrupting Triple H and cutting a "Really?" peppered "angry" promo before Triple H cut him off to drop some truths. Truths like, "We gave you a fair one-and-one match against Randy Orton two weeks ago which you lost in spectacular fashion, and Monday's Miz TV segment was going fine until you insulted my wife apropos of nothing, so shut the f--k up." Watch Miz's face go from "mildly confident by Miz standards" to "Oh, s--t, oh God, why did I raise my hand? I want to sit down." during Hunter's evisceration. It's wonderful. Then Triple H finally lets Miz get a word in edgewise, and the best comeback he can summon is "I should have changed the W to a B, LOL" and Triple H, a man who tears Paul Heyman's shirt off and slaps his tits into oblivion every time he even mentions his children, can't even be assed to get upset. The Miz -- too insignificant to anger the most angry guy in WWE history.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Reprises His 'Airplane!' Role For A Tourism Ad
25 sep 2013 13:00

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is not afraid to lean into pop culture. Whether he’s teaching Uncle Jesse how to play basketball on ‘Full House,’ playing golf with Uncle Phil on ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air,’ appearing on worthless, quickly-canceled sitcoms of the 2010s or simply jumping on the We Hate Lena Dunham bandwagon, Kareem will participate in your popular things and wallow. His most famous contribution to pop culture (you know, besides all the basketball) is still his turn as Roger Murdock, the airplane co-pilot who is also probably Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, in the legendary 1980 comedy Airplane. Randomly, Abdul-Jabbar is now returning to that role in a series of Zucker Brothers/Jim Abrahams-directed commercials for (of all things) the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. OKAY, SURE. It’s a great decision, considering that to date the best Travel Wisconsin advertisement was just a lady with a bunch of leaves on her head. We’ll be sure to share the commercials when they’re available (because everybody loves seasonal Wisconsin footage), but until then, never forget:

Bike Thief Can't Outsmart Good Samaritan With a Camera
25 sep 2013 12:14
Not all crime fighters in the big city are superheroes. In this video, a man armed with nothing but a camera catches a would-be bike thief in New York City. The crook gives up pretty quickly, but wastes no time in trying again a few blocks later, only to have the man with the camera tail him and flag down the police. Moral of the story: the man with the camera oughta consider getting a cape because he just might be a superhero.

Nightmares Fear Factory Returns With More Funny Haunted House Faces
25 sep 2013 12:09
There’s a chill in the air, brandy is slowly edging out rum as the drink of choice, and the skin around our eyes is brutally chapped — must be Autumn! And you know what that means — time for some laughs courtesy of perennial favorite Nightmares Fear Factory, a haunted house in Niagara Falls with a hidden camera that takes pictures of people while they’re having the crap scared out of them. Hilarious! (As long as it isn’t us.)

Baboon Gropes Female Reporter on Live TV, Smiles Like a Creep
25 sep 2013 12:09
Fox 40 Sacramento reporter Sabrina Rodriguez came across her most eager interview ever when Mickey the baboon decided to show he’s all hands while she did a live report from the Lodi Grope, er, Grape Festival. Oh, the perils of live TV. To Rodriguez’s credit, she rolled with punches — or the paws, in this instance — and carried on like it was monkey business as usual. That said, TheFW does not condone this kind of behavior, even in the animal kingdom. Further proof that animals are actually huge jerks.

A Soccer Goalie Got His Face Removed By An Opposing Player's Cleats
25 sep 2013 00:00

The description at Bob’s Blitz reads, “David Zibung, goalkeeper for Swiss Super League soccer club FC Luzern, has his face mashed by Grasshopper Club Zürich winger Izet Hajrovic.” I’m not going to pretend I understand a word of that. Well, I understand “goalkeeper” and “super” and “face.” So I’ll rephrase it to you, the similarly uneducated in the ways of soccer, as “it is super gross when this goalkeeper gets stomped in the face.” Here’s some solid advice: if you are on a field with a bunch of guys wearing spikes on the bottom of their shoes, squared-off nubs they may be, try not to let those spikes get onto/into your face. This is what happens (warning – it’s pretty bloody):

Carpet Camo created only to be Cease and Desist
24 sep 2013 12:13
Ever wonder what it would be like to play hide and seek with other adults? DragonCon is one the worlds largest fantasy conventions, and this is the place to do it! This pair took their game to another level, using elaborate carpet designs as disguises. Before the carpet camo was able to hit the market for fellow players, Couristan Inc.--the carpet designers--sent them a "Cease and Desist" court order. Talk about a drag, right? Couristan was worried that their "intellectual property" was being stolen. State and Federal Laws, as well as the Police Department are implemented to serve and protect the populous, however, sometimes the outcomes of the judicial system sometimes seem silly.

Watch This: Flare Surfing Looks Pretty Awesome (And Dangerous)
24 sep 2013 00:00

This isn’t new news at all, but like most treasures of the Internet, it’s always new to someone. That said, back in 2011, professional surfer Bruce Irons decided to add a little flair to his routine as he actually attached flares to his surfboard so he looked like he was on fire and being chased by flames while he hit the waves. Earlier this month, the video found new life on Reddit and GIFs of Irons’ flare surfing have become a new hit, as has this video of him explaining to Red Bull where the idea came from. If anything, it seems like a great way to enjoy a rush and fend off testicle-biting fish.

The likes of Aldon Smith are DMV instructors compared to the two drivers in the video below, one of whom is having sex with a lady while driving and the other who’s filming the entire performance. It takes a certain amount of skill, and a lot of dumb luck, to get away with driver’s seat missionary position while speeding through Chicago at 50 MPH, and even more talent to narrate the footage with, “I wanna get her bouncing again.” “Dying after crashing into a tree while having car loving” is a form of a “safe sex,” right?

A HS Wrestling Star Wrestled A Kid With Down Syndrome, Became My Hero

We share a pretty thorough amount of stuff to make you cry on this site, from sick kids in wheelchairs scoring touchdowns to army dads returning home to surprise their families to dead dog mascots who tweet from Heaven, so it’s amazing to me that a story as inspiring and touching as the one between Atlanta high schoolers Demetrius de Moors and Michael Lind could be almost a year old and not have any major mainstream coverage. Demetrius was set to compete in Georgia’s prestigious South Metro Wrestling Tournament and stepped in against Lind, a kid with Down Syndrome. I won’t spoil it for you in an asinine paragraph, but if you’ve got five free minutes, watch this video in its entirety, cry a little bit, and feel a hell of a lot better about humanity.

Jon Hamm And Amy Poehler Threw An Emmy Losers Party
23 sep 2013 12:42
Welp, that settles it. Jon Hamm and Amy Poehler are the goddamn greatest. The two cohosted a post-Emmys Losers Party at Soho House. Nominees who failed to take home a statuette were allowed in for free, but winners had to make a $1,000 donation to World Wide Orphans (WWO). [E! Online] All told, the event raised over $30,000 between the winners’ cover charge and donations made by the losers. And it gets even better, somehow. It turns out the whole thing got started because Hamm and Poehler — two enormously talented entertainers who also appear to be a blast to hang out with — are old friends who go way back.

What SteamOS Is, And Why It Matters
23 sep 2013 12:41
In the first of three announcements Valve is running this week about gaming in the living room, they showed their usual modesty and restraint and announced an entire freaking operating system that can stream your entire game library. So what, precisely, is SteamOS? And why is it a big, big deal? What It Is SteamOS is basically a custom operating system built on Linux, that streams games on Steam, that Valve is giving away for free. A good analogy is to think of it as the Android of gaming PCs; Valve has publicly declared they’re handing it out to anybody who wants it. This is important for two reasons: One, it means the operating system isn’t limited to one set of hardware. Unlike your PS3 or your Xbox 360, both of which are difficult to get running outside the environment specifically tailored for them, basically SteamOS is built to work on anything. Secondly, SteamOS gets around some pretty severe problems with PC gaming in the living room by just streaming your games. That in of itself practically sells the OS to a lot of people. Why It Matters Because essentially it’s what will likely be the first step to making gaming genuinely hardware-agnostic. Valve is essentially trying to leapfrog to where the game industry is heading anyway. Both the PS4 and the Xbox One are, in essence, streamlined PCs. That’s not exactly a coincidence; they were built, from the ground up, to make developing and publishing games cheaper and easier by making the architecture more PC-like. Part of the reason Sony is cuddling up to indies and Microsoft is talking up the sports and television aspects is that there isn’t going to be much different between the two in terms of actual games. This trend isn’t going to reverse any time soon. AAA game development is costing more and more and there’s less and less return. And that isn’t just a problem for developers, but also for the people who sell video games. You know, like Valve. Will It Work? Let’s see, a free operating system that you can just throw onto pretty much anything with a processor powerful enough to take it, and boosts the value of your device? Yeah, that’ll do pretty well. Gaming PCs will probably ship this standard, and remember, Valve isn’t done with announcements yet; the next one comes on Wednesday.

15 Inspiring Quotes From Your Favorite Childhood Authors

Now that you are all grown up, and stressing out about paying your bills, wondering whether or not this is really all that life is, and that rather distressing throbbing sensation coming from the general vicinity of where you think your kidneys are, you probably think that the books from your childhood hold nothing for you. That would be an unfortunate mistake to make. Words from the people who wrote the books we loved as children still hold plenty of meaning. Here are quotes from some of your favorite childhood authors (from works or interviews) that we think are still relevant.

Louisiana Fourth Graders Learn About Pimps in Their Homework

You might not think that students learning about the various uses of the word “twister” would get an indirect lesson in prostitution, but some fourth graders in Louisiana are receiving just such an education. Brittney Badeaux, the mother of a 9-year-old student at Eaton Park Elementary School in Southern Louisiana’s Vermilion Parish, was quite surprised when her son brought home a school worksheet describing a song by the hip-hop artist Twista called ‘Po Pimp.’ Badeaux sent a copy of the worksheet to the radio station KPEL in nearby Lafayette, writing beneath the Twista item, “Is this really appropriate for a 9 year old! Would you like to explain what a pimp is to my son?? I’m not happy about this.”

The money will go to the Greenfield Police Foundation. Way to go, Max! But next time, let your parents your parents know where you’re going. Dairy Queen Employee's Act of Extreme Generosity Makes Him a True Hero
23 sep 2013 12:33
A Dairy Queen employee has scored some serious points for his customer service skills. Joey Prusak, 19, was working at a Hopkins, Minnesota Dairy Queen earlier this month when he came to the aid of a blind customer after another customer took a $20 bill the blind man dropped. The blind customer dropped the bill while he pulled out his ATM card and the other customer picked up the money and put it in her purse. That’s when Prusak sprang into action: “I told her ‘Ma’am, you can either return the $20 bill or you can leave the store, because I’m not going to serve someone as disrespectful as you.’” The woman did exit the store, but didn’t return the cash, so Prusak took his good deed to a whole other level when he took $20 from his own pocket and handed it to the blind man. The whole thing may have been forgotten had it not been for yet another customer who witnessed the scene and wrote an email to Prusak’s manager praising him. The email has gone viral and Prusak has become a hero to people across the nation. Business at the store is now booming, while Prusak has gotten job offers and has received big tips. Still, he’s not getting a big head because of all the attention he’s receiving for his good deed. He said, “I did it without even really thinking about it….Ninety-nine out of 100 people would’ve done the same thing as me.” Prusak, who’s worked at this Dairy Queen since he was 14, plans to save money to study business management. Looks like he’s on the right track.

Millennials Are Just So Smugfully Sorry for Being So Awful

It’s not easy being a millennial. In this new tongue-in-cheek video, millennials — those born roughly between 1982 and 2002 — apologize for turning out the way they have and, well, just being terrible in general. As one person in the video confesses, “We’re self-centered. We’re entitled. We’re narcissistic, lazy and immature.” Of course, they do take some subtle digs at the baby boomers who raised them for maybe playing a role in causing our country’s problems — you know, little things like war, a recession, the housing bubble, college costs and loss of jobs, just to name a few. Sure, the millennials may not be ambitious, but don’t ever question their passive-aggressive techniques.

The Funniest and Most Absurd Voicemail Videos on the Internet
23 sep 2013 12:04
When you leave a crazy voicemail, there’s a chance the recipient is going to make a video of it and put it on YouTube. This is why we stick to texting. Fortunately, these people didn’t, and we can laugh at their folly. Inspired by the hilarity of that classic (on the internet) voicemail a man left as he witnessed a car accident, we thought why not go ahead and curate more voicemail videos and put them in one place, so people could enjoy them without ending up on the weird part of YouTube.

When Drake debuted his evolution from childhood to manhood in an illustration on the Kadir Nelson-designed cover of his third album, ‘Nothing Was the Same,’ one of the most noticeably detailed aspects of the image is the hairstyles. Merritt Wever Gave the Best Emmy Acceptance Speech Ever
23 sep 2013 11:58

Wever won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for ‘Nurse Jackie,’ beating out Jane Lynch, Julie Bowen and other comedy luminaries. In honor of her speech, we’ll keep this short. Good job, Merritt Wever. And great GIF:
