McDonald's Changes their Recipe after deemed UNFIT
23 aug 2013 07:34
Those Golden Arches are looking a little pink sluggish lately after Jamie Oliver, Food Revolution, proved that McDonald's meat recipe is deemed "Unfit for Human Conception". Several years of interviews, tv-shows and demonstrations to help the public. Ammonia/ammonium hydroxide is one of a number of processing aids used with meat and poultry in order to ensure the safety of these foods before they are delivered to consumers. -BPI Oliver demonstrates in video below, where our meat comes from and a similar process McDonald's uses to hamburger patty. The "beef filler" otherwise coined as "shit" in the industry is doused with Ammonium Hydroxide and then put through what seems like a washing machine to create a "Pink Slime". McDonald's in the US has now changed its meat recipe as of 2011 and says it will be out of the system in August of that year. McDonalds doesn't have a world wide standard as Arcos Dorados, McDonalds in Latin America, explains "such a procedure is not practiced in their region." Similar production of "pink slim" does not apply to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers. Other US companies such as Burger King a Taco Bell have already "abandoned" this washing meat process. On http://www.beefproducts.com/ammonium_hydroxide.php, "This is really nothing new. In fact, the presence or use of ammonia in foods has been studied for years." McDonald's Changes their Recipe after deemed UNFIT for Consumption

Tú Lan, Find The Vietnamese spot in SF.
23 aug 2013 05:52

Vietnamese Food in what they are calling "Central Market" previously "Theater District" but normally thought as Tenderloin. Tu Lan was shut down do to poor health code scores or was it? Tu Lan had yummy food at a great price, fast service and a great diversity of patrons in a friendly intimate atmosphere. Honestly, that is the best review that I, Dottiepineapple, could ever give. Being centrally located in the city people often stop and await for the promise of their reopening. Status updates say, "they have passed ALL of their inspections and just finishing up the details". In person report says that a date is set for MONDAY!!! So guess where I'll be Monday August, 26th 2013! Hope to be eating with you soon!

Spine Vodka: Awesome Concept
23 aug 2013 04:50
This project should more be an eye-catcher, something the people would talk about. "Spine" is a high quality product just like the design, reduced and simple with a consciously "twist" in his message and a memorable name fitting to the project. I integrated the spine with the ribcage to communicate a product with a "backbone", a beverage that lives up to its promise, to be a honest and strong Dink. This design is above and beyond a regualar 2D brand communication, it is more about the uniqe 3D design idea that supports the concept. The transparent glass material stands for a product that don't has to hide something and neither do it. It should shimply fascinate his beholder.

Timur Bekmambetov's 'Squirrels' Trailer Looks Ridiculous
22 aug 2013 18:19
I’m still pretty hesitant to believe that this is really and isn’t part of some grand viral marketing scheme for another film, but apparently director Timur Bekmambetov has been hard at work trying to produce the film Squirrels, which is about – you guessed it – squirrels. Except these aren’t just any squirrels, because just like Alfred Hitchcock’s Birds and James Nguyen’s Birdemic, Squirrels is the story of what happens when nature’s nut hoarders get fed up with humans and decide to fight back. A pre-production sales trailer for Squirrels hit the YouTubes over the weekend, and I assume that wherever Bekmambetov showed this clip, people just started throwing money and bank account numbers at him, because I can’t even count how many times I’ve thought, “If only someone had the balls to make a movie about a squirrel biting a little girl’s face off.”

Jonathan Banks Has Joined 'Community' Cast
22 aug 2013 18:11
TV hasn’t been the same since that one moment people on the Internet still get mad about when it’s spoiled, even though the episode aired nearly a year ago and really, if you don’t already know that Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad was a victim of Walter White’s full measures by now, you’re doing something…Oops. Anyway, I’ve missed Jonathan Banks’s dead-eyed scowl, so I’m eating this news up like a particularly hungry hippo. Jonathan Banks will appear in 11 episodes of Community‘s fifth season, EW has learned. Banks will tackle the role of Pat Nichols, an intense criminology professor with a mysterious background in military and police work. The Wiseguy alum makes his first appearance in the second episode of the season when Annie (Alison Brie) enrolls in his class. (Via) I have a note for anyone who’s not excited about Mike at Greendale.

X-Men Days of Future Past first Official Image
22 aug 2013 18:09
Today brings us the first official image (not including all the viral stuff and Comic-Con pictures) from Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, a title that’s little by little turning me into a Vietnamese spam bot every time I type it. Obviously, it’s a big deal for anyone who’s a fan of Earth tones. A movie that shows us what the characters looked like in the seventies! Can you imagine? Has this ever been done in a movie before? Maybe it will explain how Professor X went bald as a cueball. He’s like 30 in this and his hairline doesn’t even have power alleys. If a person can go bald that fast, I have something new to worry about. Also, didn’t Nicholas Hoult already turn blue in the last one? Don’t explain it, I want this to be a surprise. X-Men opens May 23, 2014, and the plot will include time travel, Bolivar Trask, Sentinels, and Peter Dinklage’s sweet porn ‘stache. No word on whether we’ll hear from some of the lesser-known mutants, like the guy who has super strength, but only when he’s standing in a puddle of his own pee, the guy who turns water into mustard, or Close Caption, whose special power is lip-reading.

A Puppy & A Kitten Have Safe Adventures in Photo Series
22 aug 2013 13:26
With photographer Miro Minarovic and art director Jiri Horut, Marek Farkas of Czech Republic created the “Life is Adventure” project as a creative campaign for Hill´s Pet Nutrition. The project’s photos show a puppy and a kitten having (what Farkas calls) “safe adventures” with ordinary household items, all shot from above. Farkas and his team were inspired by the early work of photographer Miro Švolík.

Super Mario Bros. Themed World War II Propaganda Posters

The Koopas are fighting. Why aren’t you? That’s the questioned posed by these WWII-style Mario propaganda posters by Fro Design. These posters envision a world where Bowser has to drum up support for his endless war against Mario, the red menace. The posters reimagine Piranha Plants as part of every victory garden and the coin blocks as donation boxes for the war effort. Even the ghosts of Koopas are caught in this battered landscape, still fighting for a nebulous cause. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, y’all.

Abandoned House in the Woods Taken Over by Wild Animals
22 aug 2013 12:35
Finnish photographer Kai Fagerström presents unique photo series, where he captures wild animals making themselves comfortable in abandoned houses in the woods of Finland. Titled The House in the Woods, the photo series is set in cottages near Kai’s summer house, which were abandoned by their tenants after the owner of the place died in a fire. Award-winning photographer noticed how the place was slowly being reclaimed by the nature, and what started as a few snapshots, ended up being a book, published in Finnish, German, and English.

French Fry Vending Machine

For €2.50 the machine will make you fresh, crispy fries in less than 90 seconds. It also dispenses BONUS ketchup or mayo. Why can’t I have both?! Jk jk, this is no time to get greedy. This is a time to plan my move to Belgium. I can figure out the ketchup/mayo conundrum later. BRT Europe!

Creepy Haunted Art Gallery for Kids in Japan
22 aug 2013 12:18
The folks at Torafu Architects realized that art appreciation is just too boring for today’s youth, so they decided to make it more interesting. Did I say interesting because I meant terrifying. They created a haunted art gallery exhibit for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. The exhibit features replicas of fine art that are not quite right. Like the eyes in some paintings move and Mona Lisa’s got hands coming out of her face. Scary stuff. Although slightly less scary when you enter a secret passageway that lets you manipulate the artwork yourself from behind.

Interactive Photo Series Compares NYC's Past and Present
22 aug 2013 12:16
New York City is constantly evolving and growing, making it difficult to document every change that has occurred, but NYC Grid is taking a stab at it. Run by Paul Sahner the ambitious website seeks to map the entire city "street by street and block by block" through photos. In addition to simply capturing present-day neighborhoods, though, the site also gives a peek of what specific areas looked like in the past, comparing the two in its "Before & After" section.

Especially awesome is this mesmerizing video showing Weimaraner Harlow wearing a black hoodie and shades. Below are some of our favorite pictures of soon-to-be Instagram rock stars Harlow and Sage.

Impressive Portrait Of Yao Ming Painted Using A Basketball
22 aug 2013 12:02
If you haven’t already guessed, we’re big fans of portrait art here on SBSG, but we have to admit it’s not every day you see artwork painted using merely a basketball! But that’s precisely the tool Malaysian artist Hong Yi used to create her portrayal of Chinese basketball player Yao Ming. Below is a time-lapse video of her bouncing the ball and bringing her creation to life using nothing more than red paint. Quite how she achieved such an impressive feat is still somewhat of a mystery, but then again that’s half the fun isn’t it? In her own words “I love to paint, but not with a paintbrush.”, she’s true to her word too. You can see the full range of her artistic experiments via redhongyi.com, there’s not a brush in sight.

If the Beastie Boys ‘Sabotage’ video was set in a library

From Chicago-based comics Mike Ferbrache and Duane Freeman comes a nonsensical rehash of the Beastie Boys’s 1994 classic video, “Sabotage,” only this time Cochese and Bunny are replaced with middle-aged librarians named “Story Time” and “The Techie.” I honestly don’t get it and don’t care. I’d watch (and post) a remake of “Ill Communication” track #6 in any setting. Shit never gets old.

Here’s a Cat Dressed Up Like Thor

This is Sir Didymus the cat. His person, Tumblr-er sparkysmachine dressed him up like Thor. He looks GOOD. Sparkysmachine insists that even though the kitty looks unhappy, he was all for it due to some catnip on the Mjolnir. Good to know, not that I think Sir Didymus has anything to complain about anyway — Thor is a good guy! One time I dressed up my cat as a villain and he ran away. Sure he came back the next day, looking all hungry and remorseful but you know what? I didn’t let him back in, because you cross me once and — oh God, this was all my fault. I’ve made a mistake. Skittles come back!

Extraordinarily Odd Photographs From A 1972 Rothschild Party

As you can probably guess by her surname, she was a member of the ultra-wealthy Rothschild banking family. To be invited as a guest, was the ultimate seal of approval from Parisian high-society.
