Children Are Sentenced To Death In Yemen.
07 mar 2013 15:28

Priyanka Motaparthy is a children’s rights researcher and co-author of “Look at Us With a Merciful Eye,” that has been enolved in research of Yemen's underage offender executions, with some other members. She writes that they've studied 22 cases of alleged child offenders on death row, many of which have exhausted all forms of appeal, in prisons across Yemen. Yemen’s 1994 penal code bans execution of child offenders as does the international law of which Yemen is a part of but executions of teens under 18 continue in Yemen on a regular basis. The government has executed 15 children in the past five years. One such case was Hind al-Barti a child offender who was convicted of murder at 15 and executed without warning by a government firing squad 9 months later. Juvenile executions happen in four countries around the world, Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan. Hopefully there are enough people who are fighting to prevent these atrocities.

07 mar 2013 13:58

A 24 year old Dianna Hanson from Seattle was mauled and killed by a 350-pound African lion named Cous Cous inside a cage at the 100 acre Northern California Cat Haven sanctuary located in San Franciso, where she has been interning since January in hopes of working with big cats. This lion was a favorite at the facility and never exhibited agression towards his handlers, he has even appeared at Ellen DeGeneres show as a cub. 14 people have been mauled by big cats in California between 1990 and 2011, and Dianna has unfortunately become the 2nd death. The facility is very professionally run, and the reasons for the attack are yet unknown.

Antibiotic Resistant Virus With 50% Fatality Rate Warning!
06 mar 2013 14:14

Federal officials issued a serious warning on Tuesday! A very dangerous group of superbugs is posing great health risks throughout U.S. hospitals. These germs are known as carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, or CRE. CRE cases have gone from 1% a decade ago, to 4% in 2012, which is a significant growth rate. Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the CDC said "What's called CRE are nightmare bacteria, they're basically a triple threat". What makes this virus so dangerous is that it's resistant to virtually all antibiotics, it can transfer it's invincibility to other bacteria and lastly the bacteria are deadly, with fatality rates as high as 50%. Currently the virus has only affected hospital patients and all possible safety and quaranteen measures are being taken to prevent it from getting out.

PETA Takes On Kimye For Wearing Too Much Fur And More!
05 mar 2013 14:59

PETA is known for picking on celebrties for their furry accessories. They have recently shifted attention from Beyonce and Jay-Z to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Wendy Wenger, PETA's spokesperson commented on the parents-to-be's liking of fur. “Youngsters naturally identify and empathize with animals – so even though Kim and Kanye will undoubtedly serve as poor examples when it comes to kindness toward animals, perhaps their child will take after aunt Khloe and choose kindness by rejecting fur”. Wenger has gone further then just bringing up Kimye's insensitivity to animals, expressing her overall disregard for Kim by stating “Kim is a commodity; she is paid to wear things like fur, a particular makeup, or to shake hands with questionable people, so she is not a good example to a child or anyone else of how to show a social conscience". Wow seems like someone might be looking for publicity.

1st Child, 2nd Person In The World Is Cured Of HIV!
05 mar 2013 13:48

A girl born in Mississppi is the first child and the second person in the world that has been cured of HIV in 32 years, since the virus became a global pandemic. Until now, such children have been considered permanently infected. Specialists think that the major reasons behind her being cured is the fact that Hannah Gay, a pediatric infectious disease specialist of the University of Mississippi, treated the child immediately and with a higher than usual dose of antivirals. She gave her the first dose within 31 hours of birth, followed with three powerful HIV drugs rather than the "prophylactic" doses usually given to kids in these circumstances. These news have sparked hope for prevention and cure of the disease in future births, and has stimulated funded studies.

Vodianova Runs Marathon and then Struts the Catwalk for Paris Fashion Week
04 mar 2013 23:47

Natalia Vodianova was an inspiration to all career-driven, health-conscious people, balancing her fashion week with running a half-marathon on a Sunday morning and walking in a Givenchy fashion show in the evening of the same day.

Vodianova says partaking in the 13.1 mile marathon has been an annual habbit of hers, being the fourth one she has run in a row. In fact, the mother of three never trains. Her boyfriend Antoine Arnault, the son of Louis Vuitton MH owner Bernard Arnault, testified on twitter that the supermodel did, in fact, not train at all before the marathon, and prepared only by eating ice cream and "good french food".

Vodianova takes part to not only show off her extreme endurance, but mainly to raise money for her charity - the Naked Heart Foundation, which constructs playgrounds in Russia. After the marathon, the model took her grandmother, Larisa, who is also her "fashion icon" to watch her model in the fashion show.

Thief Arrested After Trying To Ransom Stolen Lemur
01 mar 2013 21:42
James Edward Welborn Jr. probably didn’t have primate theft on his mind when he broke into Julie Harris’s home in Mobile, Alabama. But there was Gizmo, a two-year old lemur, and Welborn allegedly snagged it along with Harris’s TV. The problem with stealing an exotic animal is that it is much more difficult to pawn off than electronic equipment. So Welborn gave Gizmo to his sister to look after, under the guise that it had belonged to a friend who had been deployed to Afghanistan. When Harris started to post signs offering a reward for her missing pets, Welborn came up with a plan to ransom the lemur. With the help of his accomplice Brian Sanders, Welborn arranged a meeting with Harris. “It’s kind of like a bad Disney movie,” George County Sheriff’s Detective Ben Brown said of the pair’s attempt to extort Harris, who had contacted the authorities. Sanders was arrested in January during the drop and the lemur was returned to its rightful owner, unharmed. But Welborn eluded capture. That was until last week, when Welborn was pulled over on a routine traffic stop. He now faces charges for possession of stolen property Having finally got their man, the George County Sheriff department had a message for all those who would engage in ape-napping. “We don’t put up with any monkey business in George County,” Sheriff Dean Howell bragged.

Harlem Shake Video Prompts Federal Investigation
01 mar 2013 21:30
Well, this might be the video that finally ends the Harlem Shake craze. An ultimate frisbee team from Colorado College made this particular video … on an AIRPLANE. Now the FAA is investigating it to make sure that it didn’t happen during takeoff or landing or against the wishes of the flight attendants and crew. Today I was sincerely thankful that I wasn't on that flight, it already takes me two airport-bar sized glasses of red wine to get on a plane. This probably would have been the tipping point.

Groupon CEO Leaks Own Resignation Letter
01 mar 2013 21:19
Andrew Mason, now-former-CEO of Groupon, resigned today. Well, actually, he was more fired, really. And he told everybody. How do we know? Because he also publicly released his own letter of not-resignation, because it was going to leak anyway. Here’s what it said. (This is for Groupon employees, but I’m posting it publicly since it will leak anyway) People of Groupon, After four and a half intense and wonderful years as CEO of Groupon, I’ve decided that I’d like to spend more time with my family. Just kidding – I was fired today. If you’re wondering why… you haven’t been paying attention. From controversial metrics in our S1 to our material weakness to two quarters of missing our own expectations and a stock price that’s hovering around one quarter of our listing price, the events of the last year and a half speak for themselves. As CEO, I am accountable. You are doing amazing things at Groupon, and you deserve the outside world to give you a second chance. I’m getting in the way of that. A fresh CEO earns you that chance. The board is aligned behind the strategy we’ve shared over the last few months, and I’ve never seen you working together more effectively as a global company – it’s time to give Groupon a relief valve from the public noise. For those who are concerned about me, please don’t be – I love Groupon, and I’m terribly proud of what we’ve created. I’m OK with having failed at this part of the journey. If Groupon was Battletoads, it would be like I made it all the way to the Terra Tubes without dying on my first ever play through. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to take the company this far with all of you. I’ll now take some time to decompress (FYI I’m looking for a good fat camp to lose my Groupon 40, if anyone has a suggestion), and then maybe I’ll figure out how to channel this experience into something productive. If there’s one piece of wisdom that this simple pilgrim would like to impart upon you: have the courage to start with the customer. My biggest regrets are the moments that I let a lack of data override my intuition on what’s best for our customers. This leadership change gives you some breathing room to break bad habits and deliver sustainable customer happiness – don’t waste the opportunity! I will miss you terribly. Love, Andrew What? A ‘Battletoads‘ reference? Smart move, Andrew — now the entire internet is going to be on your side.

People Get Pissed Off When There's Just Too Much French Fries
01 mar 2013 00:46

A very large order of french fries in Korea has caused anger on the internet as well as the McDonald's restaurant where the incident has occured. These kids were either very hungry or simply looking to cause some chaos, and ordered $250 worth of french fries. They soon got kicked out of the restaurant by one of the fed-up workers who told them: "Stop causing trouble, you brats! Get out of here!"

Whatever happened to treating your customer with respect and 'the customer is always right' attitude?. Guess everyone has a limit, and even the internet seemed to support the restaurant in this regard: "I'd cry if this happened in my local store." and "Report this to McDonald's headquarters! Upload those kids' pictures online!" and "Those kids seriously need to leave. How annoying!"

Perhaps there was a deeper purpose to the kids' actions besides simply irritating McDonald's workers and the public. McDonald's french fries has been very low in price, a large-size order costs only $1.63. Although unlikely, perhaps these incidents might trigger McDonalds to raise the price of their fries, thus making it less affordable and lowering its demand. Considering how unhealthy this fast-food snack is, it might not be a negative thing to support making it less affordable to the general public.

Underground Mackelmore has blown up in mainstream. Selling out yet?
27 feb 2013 14:14
With Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ rapid ascent into the mainstream spotlight, there has been a lot of criticism thrown in their direction. Most recently, it stems from their song “Wings” being licensed for use by the NBA All Star Game. To further complicate things, the song’s lyrics were edited to fit with the NBA/TNT brand and to tone down the song’s central message of the problems with consumerism.

The RIAA is Not Satisfied With Google’s Anti-Piracy Efforts
27 feb 2013 13:58
Last year, Google announced that it would make efforts to reduce the visibility of copyright infringing sites by taking legitimate violation notices into account when ranking search results. This was especially relevant to the anti-piracy efforts of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), but they aren’t happy with the outcome so far. The RIAA issued a statement on their official website explaining why: “Six months later, we have found no evidence that Google’s policy has had a demonstrable impact on demoting sites with large amounts of piracy. These sites consistently appear at the top of Google’s search results for popular songs or artists.”

The CCI calls the system a “groundbreaking and collaborative effort to curb online piracy and promote the lawful use of digital music, movies and TV shows.” The idea is that content owners (major labels, Hollywood) will monitor file sharing sites for infringement, and when they catch it they’ll notify your internet service provider, who will send you an alert. Worker at Stress Ball Factory Freaks Out, Punches Boss In the Face
26 feb 2013 23:50
One would think a perk of working at a stress ball warehouse is that you always have something to grab if you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to channel that energy. Technically speaking, Darren Baldwin was no longer working at novelty company’s SPS’s warehouse in Blackpool, England when he heard some pretty overwhelming news. You see Baldwin had just been fired from his temporary job packing stress balls. But instead of quelling his rapidly ascending stress level by making a fist around one of the squishy instruments, Baldwin just made a fist. Then he punched the manager who had delivered the news in the face. While one might think that act of cathartic violence would have let the tension out of Baldwin’s system, it wasn’t the case. Next he produced two knives and threatened the other staff members who had tried to intervene. With only stress balls to defend themselves, his former coworkers fled in fear and called the police. Baldwin was arrested soon after he left warehouse. All in all not a wringing endorsement of the soothing nature of SNS’s product.

Zimmerman Hate Emails Released!

George Zimmerman, a 28 year old multi-racial Hispanic American who was the appointed neighborhood watch coordinator for a gated community shot a 17 year old African American teen on February 26th, 2012, because he looked suspicious, and allegedy attacked Zimmerman punching him and slamming his head into the side walk later. This incident has caused a lot of controversy, riots and tension. As of now Zimmerman is appealing his case, and a bunch of emails sent to him throughout the year have been released. Most emails are very hateful, and others are supporting Zimmerman. There's even a theory about conspiracy from the African American leaders, who are using this case to fuel racism. It's saddening that racist presumptions are so prominent in our society and can be easily triggered. This unfortunate incident will definitely be remembered.

Here's a few of the hatefull emails: "Please shoot yourself, you racist piece of sh-t. You killed an unarmed teen that you stalked.", "You are a RACIST BASTARD, who targeted an innocent Black kid, simply because he was Black."

Here's the supporting emails: "Black people take every opportunity to claim they've been wronged.", "Don't let the damn blacks hold you back."
