Stolen Matisse: Found After 26 Years!
08 jan 2013 11:36
When a $1 million stolen Matisse painting is recovered after 26 years missing, I'd say that's enough cause for celebration. Especially when the work in question is Henri Matisse's 1920 painting, "Le Jardin." The piece was stolen from Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm during an early morning robbery on May 11, 1987. The burglar reportedly smashed into the museum with a sledgehammer and made off with the well-known work. Some twenty years later, the painting popped up mysteriously when Charles Roberts, an Essex based art dealer, was offered the familiar artwork by a Polish collector. Roberts then searched for information on its background through Art Loss Register (ARL), a database which holds information about stolen art. Once communications began rolling, ALR director Christopher Marinello began the negotiation's for the painting's return to Swedish hands. It is unlikely that the thief will ever be caught because with so much time passed, the MOMA is just glad to have the piece back safe. Neither Charles Roberts nor the unnamed Polish collector are suspected in relation to the crime.

Immigration Costs are Soaring
08 jan 2013 11:07
According to a report released on Monday from the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute, the United States spends more money on immigration enforcement -- nearly $18 billion in the 2012 fiscal year -- than on its other law enforcement agencies combined. In contrast, the U.S. spent $14.4 billion (combined) on its other prime law enforcement agencies: the FBI, Secret Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshal Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Looks like we're pointing the guns at the wrong people, ain't we?

Al Roker Could Not Resist
07 jan 2013 15:40
On last night’s Dateline NBC, Al Roker opened up about a terribly embarrassing incident that occurred more than ten years ago while he was covering an event at the White House. Just one month after he underwent gastric bypass surgery, Roker tried to “pass gas” as he was headed to the press room, “but a little something extra came out.” “I pooped my pants. Not horribly, but I knew… and, so I was panicking, so I got to the restroom of the press room, threw out the underwear, you know, and just went commando.”

Music Video Scandal!
07 jan 2013 14:50
YouTube cut the views on music videos from Sony, Universal, and other major labels, finding that their rankings had been inflated through the use of fake users, created by apparently paid manipulation experts. Universal — home to Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, skanky Taylor Swift — seems to have been the most guilty. Google cut a whopping 1 billion views from the label's YouTube channel. The results are channels that seem remarkably thin or, in Sony's case, completely empty.

Pentagon Computers Ban LGBT Websites
03 jan 2013 14:45
The Pentagon has a list of websites that are not permitted access on by the computers in the building. Among those banned are Towleroad and AMERICAblog, popular gay civil rights websites. The Pentagon has no problem permitting their computers to access Ann Coulter’s and Rush Limbaugh’s hate-filled Web sites. But what’s really offensive is that the Pentagon has a censorship category called “LGBT.” And if you’re deemed “LGBT” by the Pentagon, they ban you. Apparently, the LGBT filter existed before the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, but still has not been fixed. They were notified of the problem as early as last summer, 2012. It is still a problem, unfixed.

Ke$ha Says She's A "Warrior"

"I have a 'shit list' — people from my past who have been soulless and judgemental. Even after I got through my awkward phase, got my braces off, and figured out how to dress my body, people in the music business were like, 'You're never going to make it. I see them now and I'm like, 'Ha!' That's one of the reasons I named my record Warrior. You can be a victim and let that eat your soul, or you can say, 'You're going on my list and I'm going to prove you wrong!"

Afghans Are Hella Mad

The Guardian reports, "US forces left behind piles of equipment, an unpaid rent bill and a festering land dispute that threatens to undermine the Afghan government when they moved out of a volatile corner of eastern Kunar province this year, local officials and their former landlords say." I'm going to have to agree with the Afghans on this one. If America wants to get out of the "War" with Afghanistan, they'd better start treating their people with at least the smallest respect. Unpaid rent? That's just silly! Leaving a mess? What are we, a bunch of spoiled brats?
