7 People Who Totally Regret Ever Getting on a Swing
11 jun 2013 14:33
Just like going down the playground slide is a fun (and sometimes painful) way to revisit childhood, so to are swings. The thing about swings, though, is there’s a risk factor involved from the get-go. You know that game where you swing and swing and then try to jump off and go really far? Or the one where you try to go super high? Sure it’s fun stuff, but we have two words for you: fail central. Swings are unpredictable little buggers, which often results in falls and flips and other awfully funny injuries. See what we mean below.

13 Unfortunately Placed Price Tags
11 jun 2013 14:30
Having done our fair share of time in retail, we’re willing to bet these price tag placements were all intentional — probably done by some poor soul about 10 days away from quitting their job. Doesn’t make them not funny. How could feeding your cat something called “anal fantasy” not be funny? It’s like you don’t even need to see the picture to laugh at that. But we’re going to show you the picture anyway. And more!

How A Human Face Might Look Like In 100,000 Years
10 jun 2013 19:25
We’ve come along way looks-wise from our homo sapien ancestors. Between 800,000 and 200,000 years ago, for instance, rapid changes in Earth climate coincided with a tripling in the size of the human brain and skull, leading to a flattening of the face. But how might the physiological features of human beings change in the future, especially as new, wearable technology like Google Glass change the way we use our bodies and faces? Artist and researcher Nickolay Lamm has partnered with a computational geneticist to research and illustrate what we might look like 20,000 years in the future, as well as 60,000 years and 100,000 years out. His full, eye-popping illustrations are at the bottom of this post.

Princess Monster Truck Is The Modern Cat For The Modern Internet
10 jun 2013 19:18
The cat you see before you is notable for three reasons: 1) Her name is Princess Monster Truck, 2) Her underbite would be terrifying on a person, but is adorable on a cat; and 3) HER NAME IS PRINCESS MONSTER TRUCK. According to BuzzFeed, PRINCESS MONSTER TRUCK's owners, Joseph Bryce and Tracy Timmins, found the Persian cat after she "came tumbling out of a bush when we were walking home one night from dinner...We decided we couldn't leave her, she didn't look like a survivor, and so we led her to our house. I carried her at some points crossing streets and then sometimes put her down to allow her to follow." They took PRINCESS MONSTER TRUCK to a vet, who told them that her underbite "looked like a condition from birth the way her jaw was structured, and these kinds of thing happen commonly in Persian breeds." Meaning, she's totally healthy. PRINCESS MONSTER TRUCK speaks for the people, and the people are saying: PRINCESS MONSTER TRUCK.

What a swell guy! Anyway, Jones crossed my mind earlier today — what with the NSA creeping outrage seemingly spreading by the second — as I wondered why I haven’t heard about him saying something crazy since all of this broke. Cue Alex Jones saying something crazy. But here’s the thing: the occasion for this particular slice of Alex Jones crazy pie isn’t even the NSA thing — it’s the Bilderberg convention, an annual meeting of rich and powerful people Andrew Neil, the host of the BBC political talkshow Jones appeared on, termed, “Christmas for conspiracy theorists.” Watch Jones just lose his mind and go on one of his patented incoherent rants about everything and nothing. All the greatest hits are there: FEMA concentration camps, Nazi world domination plots, floride in the tap water to make for more brainwashable minds, etc. “Bilderberg is heavily involved in the EU plan and helped hatched it and it is a Nazi plan,” Jones bloviated at one point. “Freedom will not stop, you will not stop freedom.” All of which, led to this…

Poster for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug

Today brings us the first poster for Peter Jackson’s second of his three-part Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. And what a poster it is! My gosh, is that the Lonely Mountain Bilbo is staring passively at?? I wonder if Bilbo and the boys will actually make it inside by the end of the movie this time! I hope so, but then I wouldn’t want to miss out on any extraneous side characters with bird poop running down their faces either!

A Virginia Man Set The World Record For Catching A 'Frankenfish'
10 jun 2013 19:03
Excuse me while I freak the F out and curl up in a ball and wet myself, but a man in Spotsylvania County, Virginia believes that he broke a world record last week for catching a three-foot northern snakehead fish. Caleb Newton’s haul weighed in at approximately 17-pounds and six ounces, which he believes would break the world record by approximately two ounces. He told WTKR news that the catch was so big that he couldn’t even fit it into his cooler. “Haha, that’s awesome”, said his wife as she packed a suitcase and put the kids in the car when he brought it home. So why is this a big deal at all? Well, for starters, the northern snakehead fish is referred to as the “Frankenfish” less because it was lesser known SNL castmember that became a politician and more because it can walk on land. If that’s not creepy enough for you, these hideous monsters are not supposed to be in America and therefore have no natural predators. They will eat your dogs, cats, babies, arms and even each other. These fish must be stopped and there’s only one Caleb Newton.

Let's Watch Mike Tyson Perform At The Tony Awards | With Leather
10 jun 2013 18:58
Want to watch Mike Tyson emerge from a pack of cheerleaders and do boxing-themed dance moves in a James Bond tuxedo with Doogie Howser? Of course you do. I can’t say I’m an avid watcher of the Tony Awards. My cousin Brad won a Tony back in 2010 for being in the cast of ‘Memphis’ and I appreciate anything Trey Parker’s doing, but aside from that the show sorta slips through my radar. That said, the Tony Awards can enjoy a forced thrust into sports blog relevancy by including a reference to Mike Tyson’s one-man show (and Mike Tyson) during Neil Patrick Harris’s big opening number. Here’s what you need to know: Mike Tyson is not great with choreography, but he’s trying, bless his heart. I’ve included the song below with a helpful jump edit to Tyson’s cameo, but feel free to rewind and watch the entire thing if that’s your bag. It’s got everything you’d want from a blockbuster show opening number … magic tricks, circus acts, child actor dane routines and catty bagging on the film version of Les Miserables. FUN FOR EVERYONE.

It's Kate Upton's 21st Birthday So Let's Throw Her A GIF Party
10 jun 2013 18:53
Today is Kate Upton’s 21st birthday, and as such we would like to wish our favorite Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model and reigning With Leather Celebrity Sports Fan of the Year (2010-probably when she turns, like, 34 or something) the best of birthday wishes. I also hope that she doesn’t go out and drink awful mixed shots until she throws up on an Applebee’s toilet seat like I did on my 21st birthday 13 years, I mean, three years ago. And if she does go out to have some drinks on her birthday, maybe she’ll tell me where it is so I can totally not go there and stare at her like some crazy pervert wearing a top hat and holding an engagement ring. That would, haha, that would just be ridiculous. Anywho, to honor our special lady, I slapped together this collection of my favorite 21 Kate Upton GIFs because she is wonderful and it’s Monday, so we should start off the week in style. Happy birthday, Kate.

The New 'White House Down' Trailer Is Four Minutes Of Awesomeness
10 jun 2013 18:50
Late last night, as I was watching the Tony Awards… wait, no. I was doing 1,000 pushups, and Vince emailed me this brief message: “A 4 minute trailer? The f*ck?” He was speaking, of course, of the newest trailer for Roland Emmerich’s White House Down, which stars Channing Tatum as Secret Agent Cole Baretta (or John Cale), a man who just wants a simple job with the Secret Service so he can make an honest living and raise his daughter. My response was, “Why wouldn’t there be a 4 minutes trailer?” This is, after all, the biggest movie of the year that we’re talking about right here. And what we know now that we already kind of knew before was that this is like Training Day and In the Line of Fire met Lethal Weapon at a pilates class, took it out for drinks and had a raunchy threeway with it on top of a pile of Die Hard DVDs. All set, of course, to Led Zeppelin. Sadly, it’s not Zepp with Diddy this time.

Aaron Johnson May Kick Ass As Quicksilver In 'The Avengers 2'
10 jun 2013 18:48
Joss Whedon hinted then confirmed Quicksilver will be in The Avengers 2. Then Bryan Singer tweeted that Evan Peters would play the same character in X-Men: Days of Future Past. In another shot across the bow, Deadline reports Marvel wants Aaron Johnson (AKA Aaron Taylor-Johnson) of Kick-Ass to play Quicksilver in The Avengers 2. Johnson reportedly has scheduling conflicts and may not be able to sign on for the sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time, which would be the worst career move since Brian Dunkleman quit American Idol in the first season. Making this story a little stranger, the other Quicksilver actor Evan Peters played Aaron Johnson’s best friend in Kick-Ass. Johnson’s wife being 24 years his senior might also cause some static.* We already know what Joss Whedon thinks about May-December romances, and romances in general, and single people.

A Dog Is Auctioning Off Artwork To Raise Money For Tornado Relief
10 jun 2013 18:45
Last month, we all watched in shock and horror as tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma City and its surrounding areas, leveling homes and buildings and claiming at least 24 lives while injuring hundreds of people. Many people and charitable organizations have been donating time and money to help those in need, and that includes the Central Oklahoma Humane Society, which has been housing and caring for countless displaced animals while trying to reunite them with their owners. In one of the more unique acts of generosity, the owners of a dog named Arbor are donating the net proceeds of a piece of artwork that they are auctioning off for tornado relief, and the artist is none other than Arbor herself.

George Clooney Inspires New Fad Of 'Ball Ironing'
10 jun 2013 18:42
If you thought that “manscaping” was a strange male grooming habit that had taken the nation’s bros and dudes by storm in recent years, hold on to your marble pouches and banana hammocks. Thanks to George Clooney’s so-called jokes, a new fad called “ball-ironing” is now becoming a hot trend among Hollywood’s aspiring leading men, and if you can’t guess what that phrase means based on the name alone, then you’re sure in for a treat. According to the Daily Mail, men are now visiting cosmetic experts for a process that uses lasers to remove hairs from a man’s testicles while smoothing out the natural wrinkles.

Lady Goes Crazy, Demands Free Food At Dunkin Donuts

Unless your last name is “Kennedy” or you play lacrosse, you’ve probably had a crappy customer service job. Cashiers, waiters, baggers, phone sex hotline helpers, people love to picks fights with all of ‘em, to prove their own self-worth or because they’re horribly, horribly lonely — or both. Most folks, however, aren’t as awful as the “worst person ever,” to quote Gawker, who bitched out a poor Dunkin Donuts employee because “she didn’t get a receipt.” She’s no “c*nt punt,” but “I want the whole f*cking menu, b**ch…twice” will do in a pinch.

Game Of Thrones GIF Recap Season 3 Finale 'Mhysa'
10 jun 2013 18:33
There was no way Game of Thrones was going to top last week’s monumentally bloody “The Rains of Castamere,” and wisely, “Mhysa” didn’t even try. Instead, we got a fairly satisfying reminder that oh yeah, this character? He’s in a bad spot. And her? You best believe things aren’t looking good for her, too. It was a finale that checked in with everyone, and without adding too much information, set up new developments on old stories, like Jaime returning home as a broken man and Dany continuing on with another army in tow. Also, family is apparently very important. It was not Game of Thrones‘ finest hour, nor was it their weakest — it was a necessary next step after the events of Red Wedding, which has ramifications of all over Westeros, from the leech-ridden halls of Dragonstone to King’s Landing, where Joffrey is as happy about what transpired as Sansa is miserable. It was also an extremely dark episode. The show always takes, well, I’m not sure if the right word is “pleasure,” but it enjoys exploring the darkness of the world, where the terrors roam free, and “Mhysa,” despite its hopeful finale scene, was a cruel reminder that anyone who thinks they’re happy is just biding their time until they’re miserable again. Today, for the final GIF of Thrones until next year (talk about depressing things), I’ve ranked 15 or so characters by how f*cked they are in their current predicament. The lower the number, the worse things seem. Valar Morghulis.

Neil Patrick Harris' Opening Number At The Tony Awards Was Incredible
10 jun 2013 18:30
I saw someone complaining on Twitter the other day about Neil Patrick Harris hosting the Tony Awards again this year and my immediate response was: “Shut up.” Nobody bashes the NPH, people. Let’s just be clear about that upfront. But my much more rational and thought-out response to that complaint was: “Seriously, shut up.” Harris has been absolutely wonderful in his previous hosting gigs at the Tony Awards and that’s why it’s ridiculous that he hasn’t been offered a giant bag full of gold to host every awards show. Seriously, would anyone be against that? If you said, “Yes” to that hypothetical question, then I implore you to watch his opening performance from tonight’s Tony Awards show at Radio City Music Hall. Watch it right now. I’ll wait.

12 Best 'Game Of Thrones' References In Other TV Shows
10 jun 2013 18:29
Sigh. After tonight, it's over, at least for another nine months, when Game of Thrones will return for season four and make our lives meaningful again in a post-Breaking Bad world. Production begins next month, according to star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, presumably in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where so much of the show is shot. I, for one, am not ready for season three to be over with, because until it's back, the only Game of Thrones we're going to have in our lives, besides compulsively rewatching "The Rains of Castamere" and reading the books for a seventh time, is references to it in other TV shows, like Andy and Andy's "Places to Live" list. Here are some other great Game of Thrones pop culture acknowledgements (there's a lot of Parks and Recreation).

Pregnant Kim Kardashian Statue With No Arms Is Considered ‘Art’
09 jun 2013 20:56
From the artist who brought you Britney Spears giving birth on a bear skin rug, Angelina Jolie breastfeeding, Justin Bieber‘s cartoon character private parts, and the interactive Paris Hilton autopsy comes Daniel Edwards newest piece, ‘L.A. Fertility,’ which is basically just your standard fertility statue that looks kinda sorta like Kim Kardashian. The work features a life-size but armless Kim K., wearing a tiara and earrings that are pretty reminiscent of those she wore when she married Kris Humphries. Because sure, why not. Visitors to the LAB ART Gallery in Los Angeles where the piece is located are encouraged to rub the statue for good luck, so that … their future babies will be famous for no discernible reason? Hard to say. “People tend to look at the parts, like the creases in her armpits, or how she wore a dress that makes her look like a killer whale,” Edwards said of the media’s treatment of Kim during her pregnancy. “I’m stripping it of the details people get stuck on, so they can see the beauty.” And if you’re wondering what’s in that pregnant stone belly? Edwards has a pretty good idea about that, too.

J. Bieber Steals a Paparazzo’s Camera, Continues Descent to Thugdom
09 jun 2013 20:55
Justin Bieber is back to his old tricks again, flipping out on a paparazzo for doing his job and ordering his goons to steal the man’s camera like a respectable artist would. TMZ reports that the scuffle occurred outside The Hit music studio in Miami around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, when Justin spotted the pap and could be heard squeaking, “Grab that camera! Get that f—king camera out of here!” like the Wicked Witch commanding an army of winged monkeys. After the pap pleaded for his camera back, Justin used his Solomonic wisdom to compromise, telling the man he’d return it … kinda. “Alright, alright. I’m gonna give you your camera back. I’m gonna take your SIM card though,” he said. When the photog offered to delete the photos he’d (legally, it should be noted) taken, the Biebs refused to bend. Setting aside the fact that this was a camera — not a phone — and therefore had no SIM card, let’s not forget that stealing someone’s memory card is theft, whether if you’re a faux-thug singer or not. (Even reality stars don’t get away with that.) Police are investigating the incident, as well as another incident that allegedly went down a few hours later, in which a member of Justin’s security team choked out a different pap. Oh, and then there was that other incident with another photographer, which probably would’ve gotten ugly if arena security at a Miami Heat game hadn’t intervened. So, Justin didn’t personally steal the memory card or assault anyone, and merely influenced others to do so. But doesn’t that just make him the Charles Manson of tiny little Canadian pop stars?

James Franco Dressed Up as Janet Leigh in ‘Psycho’...No one Knows Why.
09 jun 2013 20:54
James Franco is at it again — and by that we mean he’s doing something weird for no reason, except maybe just because he can. This time around? He’s recreating the horror film ‘Psycho’ dressed as Janet Leigh in a video art exhibit called ‘Psycho Nacirema.’ On the plus side, at least he’s not making other actors dance around in fake bird poop. Again. The exhibit features Franco in a blonde wig recreating scenes from the classic Hitchcock film in bits and pieces across large video installations, with plenty of him screaming in the shower. In addition to the film references, there are also allusions to the real-life rape and murder case against silent film actor Fatty Arbuckle, who, in the early 1920s, went through three separate trials before finally being acquitted. Said Franco of the purpose behind the installation: "In this show, we go back to the original locations and images of ‘Psycho’ and alter them so that once again the viewer’s relationship with the material changes. One becomes an actor when interacting with this work. Film becomes raw material and is sculpted into new work." ‘Psycho Nacirema‘ opens on June 6 at the Pace Gallery in London. You can check out more photos below.

Joel Edgerton Is Serious and Sexy, and Seriously Sexy
07 jun 2013 21:27
Actor Joel Edgerton has been making a splash in the last couple of years on the big screen, and it’s not hard to see why. (Hint: he’s sexy.) You may recognize Joel from, well, a lot of things. He caught his big break in the Australian crime drama ‘Animal Kingdom’ (not a film for the faint of heart, believe me — it’s rough), and his star just took off from there. He went on to star alongside fellow sexy man Tom Hardy in ‘Warrior,’ in which the two played UFC fighters and brothers, and last year he starred in ‘Zero Dark Thirty.’ More recently, you probably saw him in ‘The Great Gatsby‘ alongside cuties Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, playing the mean husband of Daisy Buchanan and sporting a sinister mustache. Dudes with mustaches in movies are usually bad news. (Or they’re in the ’80s.) Edgerton is a serious actor, a sort of manly-man type who usually takes on very dark or dramatic roles. But if you want to see his softer side, check out last year’s touching kids’ movie ‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green.’

‘Teen Wolf’ Star Dylan O’Brien Is Fiercely Hot

‘Teen Wolf‘ star Dylan O’Brien is about to take off in a huge way, and you should be along for the ride when it happens. Get ready to swoon over O’Brien, who also stars in ‘The Internship,’ hitting theaters this Friday. I had never heard of Dylan O’Brien. There I was, minding my own business at a screening of ‘The Internship,’ when I saw this incredibly cute guy on screen with those sexy-dorky, thick-framed black glasses, and DAMN. Can I get an AMEN from the congregation? Thanks to Google, I discovered that O’Brien is a star of the MTV series ‘Teen Wolf,’ which is apparently a pretty good show? I just figured a TV remake of a classic ’80s movie would be kind of lame, especially on MTV, home of ‘Jersey Shore.’ But no! It’s supposedly good! And it stars Dylan O’Brien, who is extremely friggin’ cute. He’s like a miniature Josh Hartnett — remember Josh Hartnett, star of ‘The Faculty’ and ‘The Virgin Suicides’ and your dreams in the early ’00s? That guy has just like, fallen off the face of the earth. Dylan O’Brien is like our second chance at Josh Hartnett! You guys! Dreams come true!

07 jun 2013 21:24
How much would you pay for a fake nail that may or may not have bits of Lady Gaga‘s DNA still on it? The answer to that question for one person was $13,000, which is what they paid when the used nail went up for auction. No word on whether the fan plans to clone their own Gaga from the nail or if they merely collect Gaga memorabilia. (We really hope it’s the former.) The nail itself — which was designed by Aya Fukada — is a gold and black acrylic and was worn to the launch of Gaga’s Fame fragrance and during a concert in Dublin, Ireland. A crew member later found the nail on the ground after said concert and saw gold (or at least green), so he or she listed the item for sale. Samuel Jackson Performs ‘Breaking Bad’ Monologue for Research
07 jun 2013 21:22
Samuel L. Jackson has been raising money through the website Reddit for Alzheimer’s research by promising to read monologues each time a donation goal is reached. This time around, after raising $155,000, Jackson read the memorable “I am the one who knocks” monologue from ‘Breaking Bad’ protagonist Heisenberg/Walter White. Since his idea to have his Marvel character Nick Fury on the show didn’t pan out, this should help fill some of that void. When $150,000 was initially raised, Jackson read a monologue written by a Reddit user in which he announced he would be retiring from acting. (You can watch that hilarity below.) The next donation goal is $175,000, and when that mark is reached, Jackson will choose three random donors for whom he’ll record what are likely to be the world’s most epic voicemail messages. You can currently donate to the Alzheimer’s Association and simultaneously enter to win a weekend in England and lunch with Jackson, as well as two tickets to hang out with him and other celebrities at this year’s Shooting Stars Benefit. So get on that already.
