Ronda Rousey Posed Semi-Naked For Maxim's Hot 100
07 may 2013 20:23
Back in February, UFC Women’s Champion and With Leather’s First Lady of Fighting, Ronda Rousey, discussed her newfound status as a sex symbol on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. Of this new and growing fascination and adoration that men and women alike have established for her, Rousey said: “I don’t really see myself as a sex symbol because ever since people started calling me a sex symbol, I haven’t had less sex in my life. It’s not really working out great for me. People bring that up all the time. I’m like, Look, you’re right. I probably get more attention fighting because of how I look, but if I didn’t know how to fight and I just looked the way I did, no one would know who I am.”

Jennifer Lawrence Photobombs Sarah Jessica Parker At Met Ball
07 may 2013 20:19
Feeling that last night’s Met Gala was entirely too stuffy, Jennifer Lawrence proved yet again why she’s amazing: she gloriously photobombed Sarah Jessica Parker, who thought she’d put the horse comparisons to rest by wearing a mohawk to last night’s fashion event. Even Marion Cotillard and Lena Dunham had to laugh.

A Brief History Of Zooey Deschanel's Musical Moments
07 may 2013 17:11
For a good year or two, Zooey Deschanel was one of the most polarizing names in pop culture. She can still induce a good argument or two (Zooey > Emily), but now it's more of a battle than an all-out war. That's what starring in one of TV's best sitcoms, New Girl, will do for you. The Fox sitcom airs its season finale next week, but Zooey's also making the publicity rounds this week for another project, She & Him, her band with M. Ward. Today, She & Him released their third album, Volume 3, and it's by far their best. It's catchy and wistful, seductive and innocent, if ultimately lightweight. Zooey's voice isn't a stunner, as anyone who's seen ANY of her movies (minus The Happening, which damn) already knows, but there's enough charisma and genuine emotion in it to disregard the imperfections. Having the technically impressive M. Ward, who provides Volume 3's eyes-wide-open pop-folk sound, around helps, too. It's the billowing vintage dress of albums. In honor of Volume 3, let's take a look at Zooey's long musical history, be it in movies, TV, or albums.

'Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger' Gets A 'Borderlands'-Esque Trailer
07 may 2013 17:08
Call of Juarez is going back to its Western roots with the digital release of Gunslinger, and essentially it looks like what would happen if Gearbox made Red Dead Revolver. Note that this is not a complaint. It’s pretty violent, and it takes more than a few cues from spaghetti Westerns, including what appears to be the obligatory Ku Klux Klan hunt (those would be the guys in the red masks). Interestingly, the trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of gameplay info, but there’s plenty of that to be found on the game’s website. Apparently you’ll be able to level up in different firearms disciplines, unleash combos, and be able to dodge bullets. Also, you’ll kill real outlaws of the Old West, which raises a question of why nobody’s ever heard of this guy, but anyway. This is arriving on 360, PS3, and PC at the end of the month. We’ll be curious to see at what price point and just how long the game itself is. Although we’ve got to admit, twenty bucks to kill racist d-bags is kind of a no-brainer. Check out the trailer in all its gory, er, glory:

Famous Rap Lyrics Quoted On NYC Street Corners
07 may 2013 16:40
We love this visual tribute to some of the biggest artists in hip-hop. Based in New York, artist Jay Shells, installs his own custom street signs which quote hip-hop lyrics specific to their location. He’s taken references from songs by the likes of Mos Def, Nas, Redman, Busta Rhymes and even the mighty Jay-Z and situated them around all the various boroughs and street corners of the city. He’s called the project Rap Quotes, just how long they will remain before the local council pulls them down is up for debate. Personally we think they should stay, taken in or out of context, they are a tribute to the area and serve as an acknowledgment of New York City’s impact on musical culture. http://www.rapquote.com/

Charred & Burnt Matchstick Heads Reveal Human Faces
07 may 2013 16:39
German Visual artist Wolfgang Stiller is the individual responsible for these impressive over-sized matchsticks sculpted out of giant pieces of lumber. But it doesn’t stop there. Rather than just create a bigger version of an object that already exists, he added in his own unique (if slightly eerie) twist to the tip of each matchstick. After stumbling across a collection of random head molds in his studio from a previous project, he set about ingeniously incorporating them into the artwork. Using the tip of the burnt matchstick, he molded the faces into the charred material – creating the illusion of the head crumbling away to reveal a very real human face. He’s aptly titled his impressive work ‘Matchstick Me’, you can find out more about the project, as well as his latest venture via his official site: http://www.wolfgangstiller.com/

Sombre Images From Inside The Wreckage Of Car Crashes
07 may 2013 16:37
Here’s a photographic series that is a sombre as it is compelling. Danish photographer Nicolai Howalt has crawled inside the wreckage of numerous car crashes and captured those final moments of impact. There is no blood, no mention of the drivers or details about how the accident or crash happened – yet each car featured has either been in a severe and potentially fatal accident. Collectively they serve as a stark and sombre reminder of the dangers of driving carelessly and without caution on the road. There’s something a little dream-like about Howlat’s powerful and visually confronting work. You can’t help but imagine what it might have been like had it been you sitting in those front seats, that sharp twinge and recognition of our own mortality and a very real fear of what fate may have had in store for the future. You can see more of his striking work via his official site as well as purchase limited edition copies of his book you can purchase his book here: [ http://perimeterbooks.com/Nicolai-Howalt-Car-Crash-Studies ] And please remember next time you get behind the wheel, try not to end up in one of his future photographs…

A Series Of Famous Battleground Gifs From Fighting Games
07 may 2013 16:34

When it comes to fighting games, especially when you were playing against a friend, after you’ve selected your characters there was always the debate and which location to do battle in. Each fighter usually comes from a unique part of the world, so you can have you match in their hometown or in a neutral country – either way there was often much wrangling and debate “China?” “Brazil?” “Downtown L.A.?” the list of battlegrounds are as exotic as they are diverse.

This Hospital Has A Wonderful Secret Lullaby Factory
07 may 2013 16:32
Going to hospital, either as a patient or visitor can often be a strange and stressful time. Stark waiting rooms, fluorescent lighting and a fear of the unknown come together to often create an atmosphere that is at best slightly unnerving. That’s why a this fantastic & imaginative project by visual artists Maria Smith and Je Ahn of Studio Weave is such a welcome idea – it changes the entire dynamic. Located directly across from the famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London is the ‘Lullaby Factory’, a series of pipes, tubes and speakers that rise 10 stories high and spread out around 105ft. Echoing within them is a series of soothing and cheerful sounds composed by Jessica Curry, not totally dissimilar to wind chimes. In order to hear them, you have to put your ear up to the speakers themselves – a surprise and secret melody for those who care to explore.

9 Sloths Who Are Working for the Weekend
07 may 2013 16:28
We love sloths. There’s no question. But we can’t spend all day looking at them online– sometimes we have to take a break to order food from Seamless or run a damp sponge over our body. Worse, sometimes we actually have to leave the apartment. To combat this, we’ve taken sloths and given them everyday jobs, so we can imagine the people we have to talk to are sloths while we’re talking to them. That’s normal, right? Plus, it gives the sloth community a better reputation. They aren’t sloth-ful, they’re work-ful. (Yes, that’s not a word. Look, sloths in people clothes!)

Charles Ramsey Rescues Missing Women, Becomes Internet Hero
07 may 2013 16:27
Charles Ramsey is a hero after freeing three women who had been kidnapped and held captive by his neighbor for 10 years. The Cleveland, Ohio man has also quickly become a viral video star after giving a series of descriptive interviews about the rescue. “I barbecued with this dude! We ate ribs and whatnot, and listened to salsa music,” Ramsey explained when describing neighbor Ariel Castro. Castro now stands accused of kidnapping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, who have all gone missing over the past decade. It was Berry, whose disappearance in 2003 was big news in Cleveland, that Ramsey heard screaming, and then freed from a partially locked door by kicking it in. While it took a little while for Ramsey to realize this was the Amanda Berry, he knew from the get-go something was seriously amiss. “I knew something was wrong when a little pretty white girl ran into a black man’s arms. Something is wrong here. Dead giveaway,” he told local reporters. In addition to his interviews, Ramsey also proved to be quite entertaining on the 911 call he placed after freeing Berry — which led to DeJesus and Knight being rescued. That NSFW recording is below, and after you listen to it we think you’ll agree that Ramsey needs to get the auto-tune treatment and a hefty endorsement from McDonald’s.

Baby says flamingo
07 may 2013 16:00

There are many great things to watching a child grow up: their first step, their first word, and of course, watching them turn simple English into dirty, foul-mouthed words that make any adult crack up. As you can see, young Paige is having a little trouble describing what she’s holding in this video with her father. We didn’t know there was a way to butcher the word flamingo so much, but we’re definitely not complaining. Apparently BIll Cosby was right, kids do say the darndest things!

The House of Häagen-Dazs Presents - Pure Captivation Starring Bradley Cooper
07 may 2013 15:00

We forgive Hollywood hottie Bradley Cooper for many things (e.g., appearing in ‘Yes Man’), but we just can’t understand why he would bring an open container of vanilla ice cream to a party. Weirdly, this is the premise behind his commercial for Haagen-Dazs, so try to suspend your disbelief. He’s just lucky he’s so ridiculously good-looking. The spot features Cooper entering a party, pint of ice cream in hand, only to be distracted by model Jana Perez — who lures him into seclusion with devious plans to steal it. The entire thing was shot on location in the Zámek Ploskovice estate in Prague, but for the purposes of the ad, it’s the House of Haagen-Dazs. Check out the video for the cheesiness and steaminess, and try to ignore the advertising ploy that someone would be presented with a choice of vanilla ice cream or Bradley Cooper — and opt for the former.

Actor Aaron Johnson Has Grungy Sex Appeal
07 may 2013 13:00

British actor Aaron Johnson is one you definitely want to watch if you aren’t already, and we’re really digging this grungy-dirty-sexy thing he has going on. Would all men look like this if they stopped washing their hair as often? Nevermind. We didn’t ask that. Aaron Johnson, also known as Aaron Taylor-Johnson because he’s married and took his wife’s last name (true renaissance man), is a guy that’s been on my personal radar for years, with roles in films like ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Nowhere Boy.’ But the rest of the world finally seems to be coming around to how cute this guy is. He starred alongside Keira Knightley in last year’s adaptation of ‘Anna Karenina‘ as the dashing Count Vronsky, a dude with a mustache that should have been a big red flag to ol’ Anna, but I guess when you live in Russia, red flags are the jam. Johnson was so, so sexy in the movie — sexy enough that I overlooked the horrific scene in which Knightley LICKS HIS MUSTACHE. Gross. But I quickly got over my brief bout of nausea to continue appreciating his prettiness. Coming up next, you can see Johnson in ‘Kick-Ass 2‘ and ‘Godzilla.’ Or you can check out these sexy photos and hop on the bandwagon.

The Bionic Dog With Four Prosthetic Legs Hits Us In All The Feels
07 may 2013 13:00

Naki’o is the first dog to ever be fitted with four prosthetic legs. We wrote about him right after he received his new legs. To summarize, this cute mixed-breed dog lost all four paws to frostbite when his former owners abandoned the litter of puppies in their foreclosed home during a frigid Nebraska winter. As we said at the time, we want to hunt down those former owners and punch them in the face almost as much as we want to rub this dog’s belly and watch his little plastic legs kick. Veterinary technician Christie Tomlinson organized a fundraiser for the rescue dog, and Orthopets provided half-priced prosthetics which allow him to run, jump and even swim. Now Rick Wilking of Reuters (via io9) has offered an update to the story of Naki’o the bionic dog. They posted new photos of Naki’o and inform us he’s found a happy home in Colorado Springs. Just check this little fella out.

A Cleveland, Ohio man named Charles Ramsey helped rescue a group of abducted children from his neighbors home after hearing screams from a little girl. Charles was in his house eating McDonald’s when he heard the screaming and quickly came out to notice it was coming from next his neighbor’s home. He went over to the home, broke open the front door, freed the girl and realized that she was Amanda Berry, a girl who went missing nearly 10 years ago. After Police searched the house, two other missing girls turned up in the house who were alive and well, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. When asked by WEWS NewsChannel 5 reporter John Kosich, “What were the reactions on the girls’ faces? I can’t imagine to see the sunlight…”, Charles quickly replied, “Bro, I knew something was wrong when a little, pretty white girl ran into a black man’s arms. Something is wrong here. Dead giveaway. The Original iPhone Is Officially Obsolete
06 may 2013 17:31
Nearly six years after it showed the company a new direction and made them a fortune, Apple has decided it’s time to take the original iPhone out back with the shotgun. The original iPhone is officially obsolete, as opposed to being unofficially obsolete the microsecond the iPhone 2 came out. So what does official obsolence involve? Products that are considered obsolete—or perhaps for a more tasteful term, “vintage”—cannot be repaired or receive replacement parts unless they’re in the state of California, “as required by statute.” Californians can continue to get service and parts for their obsolete items through Apple retail stores, but the rest of us are pretty much out of luck. In other words, if for some reason you were still using a five year old phone and want to continue to use it, you’re probably going to be stuck getting parts through a Californian reseller or hunting up the original iPhone in yard sales and nerd swap meets. Honestly, we’re having trouble thinking of anybody who would actually do this, not least because the iPhone wasn’t actually that good at taking phone calls. So if you’ve got an original iPhone and want to help keep somebody trapped in an odd technological bubble, get that antique up on eBay! After all, you’re helping them out, just like that guy who keeps selling him eight-tracks is “helping” your dad.

Behind the scenes Only God Forgives footage, with Ryan Gosling

If you’re anything like everyone I know, you’re probably already semi-tumescent or pre-ovulating for Only God Forgives, director Nicolas Winding Refn’s follow up to Drive, once again starring everyone’s favorite sweet-smelling Canadian, Ryan Gosling (if not, educate yourself with the trailers below). The Only God Forgives Facebook page recently posted a new behind-the-scenes video, and, well… let me see if I can explain what’s so great about it: Basically, it’s a whole minute of a weirdo Danish guy in a kilt/sarong, earnestly philosophizing about the nature of violence and sex, while an amused Baby Goose makes cute faces at the camera like Jim from The Office while a team of loyal Thai crewmembers scurry around doing their jobs happily like Keebler Elves. There’s just something magical about it. The movie looks great, but I could watch just these two hanging out together for hours.
