Baby says flamingo
07 may 2013 16:00

There are many great things to watching a child grow up: their first step, their first word, and of course, watching them turn simple English into dirty, foul-mouthed words that make any adult crack up. As you can see, young Paige is having a little trouble describing what she’s holding in this video with her father. We didn’t know there was a way to butcher the word flamingo so much, but we’re definitely not complaining. Apparently BIll Cosby was right, kids do say the darndest things!

Charles Ramsey Rescues Missing Women, Becomes Internet Hero
07 may 2013 16:27
Charles Ramsey is a hero after freeing three women who had been kidnapped and held captive by his neighbor for 10 years. The Cleveland, Ohio man has also quickly become a viral video star after giving a series of descriptive interviews about the rescue. “I barbecued with this dude! We ate ribs and whatnot, and listened to salsa music,” Ramsey explained when describing neighbor Ariel Castro. Castro now stands accused of kidnapping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, who have all gone missing over the past decade. It was Berry, whose disappearance in 2003 was big news in Cleveland, that Ramsey heard screaming, and then freed from a partially locked door by kicking it in. While it took a little while for Ramsey to realize this was the Amanda Berry, he knew from the get-go something was seriously amiss. “I knew something was wrong when a little pretty white girl ran into a black man’s arms. Something is wrong here. Dead giveaway,” he told local reporters. In addition to his interviews, Ramsey also proved to be quite entertaining on the 911 call he placed after freeing Berry — which led to DeJesus and Knight being rescued. That NSFW recording is below, and after you listen to it we think you’ll agree that Ramsey needs to get the auto-tune treatment and a hefty endorsement from McDonald’s.

9 Sloths Who Are Working for the Weekend
07 may 2013 16:28
We love sloths. There’s no question. But we can’t spend all day looking at them online– sometimes we have to take a break to order food from Seamless or run a damp sponge over our body. Worse, sometimes we actually have to leave the apartment. To combat this, we’ve taken sloths and given them everyday jobs, so we can imagine the people we have to talk to are sloths while we’re talking to them. That’s normal, right? Plus, it gives the sloth community a better reputation. They aren’t sloth-ful, they’re work-ful. (Yes, that’s not a word. Look, sloths in people clothes!)

This Hospital Has A Wonderful Secret Lullaby Factory
07 may 2013 16:32
Going to hospital, either as a patient or visitor can often be a strange and stressful time. Stark waiting rooms, fluorescent lighting and a fear of the unknown come together to often create an atmosphere that is at best slightly unnerving. That’s why a this fantastic & imaginative project by visual artists Maria Smith and Je Ahn of Studio Weave is such a welcome idea – it changes the entire dynamic. Located directly across from the famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London is the ‘Lullaby Factory’, a series of pipes, tubes and speakers that rise 10 stories high and spread out around 105ft. Echoing within them is a series of soothing and cheerful sounds composed by Jessica Curry, not totally dissimilar to wind chimes. In order to hear them, you have to put your ear up to the speakers themselves – a surprise and secret melody for those who care to explore.

Sombre Images From Inside The Wreckage Of Car Crashes
07 may 2013 16:37
Here’s a photographic series that is a sombre as it is compelling. Danish photographer Nicolai Howalt has crawled inside the wreckage of numerous car crashes and captured those final moments of impact. There is no blood, no mention of the drivers or details about how the accident or crash happened – yet each car featured has either been in a severe and potentially fatal accident. Collectively they serve as a stark and sombre reminder of the dangers of driving carelessly and without caution on the road. There’s something a little dream-like about Howlat’s powerful and visually confronting work. You can’t help but imagine what it might have been like had it been you sitting in those front seats, that sharp twinge and recognition of our own mortality and a very real fear of what fate may have had in store for the future. You can see more of his striking work via his official site as well as purchase limited edition copies of his book you can purchase his book here: [ http://perimeterbooks.com/Nicolai-Howalt-Car-Crash-Studies ] And please remember next time you get behind the wheel, try not to end up in one of his future photographs…

Charred & Burnt Matchstick Heads Reveal Human Faces
07 may 2013 16:39
German Visual artist Wolfgang Stiller is the individual responsible for these impressive over-sized matchsticks sculpted out of giant pieces of lumber. But it doesn’t stop there. Rather than just create a bigger version of an object that already exists, he added in his own unique (if slightly eerie) twist to the tip of each matchstick. After stumbling across a collection of random head molds in his studio from a previous project, he set about ingeniously incorporating them into the artwork. Using the tip of the burnt matchstick, he molded the faces into the charred material – creating the illusion of the head crumbling away to reveal a very real human face. He’s aptly titled his impressive work ‘Matchstick Me’, you can find out more about the project, as well as his latest venture via his official site: http://www.wolfgangstiller.com/

Famous Rap Lyrics Quoted On NYC Street Corners
07 may 2013 16:40
We love this visual tribute to some of the biggest artists in hip-hop. Based in New York, artist Jay Shells, installs his own custom street signs which quote hip-hop lyrics specific to their location. He’s taken references from songs by the likes of Mos Def, Nas, Redman, Busta Rhymes and even the mighty Jay-Z and situated them around all the various boroughs and street corners of the city. He’s called the project Rap Quotes, just how long they will remain before the local council pulls them down is up for debate. Personally we think they should stay, taken in or out of context, they are a tribute to the area and serve as an acknowledgment of New York City’s impact on musical culture. http://www.rapquote.com/

'Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger' Gets A 'Borderlands'-Esque Trailer
07 may 2013 17:08
Call of Juarez is going back to its Western roots with the digital release of Gunslinger, and essentially it looks like what would happen if Gearbox made Red Dead Revolver. Note that this is not a complaint. It’s pretty violent, and it takes more than a few cues from spaghetti Westerns, including what appears to be the obligatory Ku Klux Klan hunt (those would be the guys in the red masks). Interestingly, the trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of gameplay info, but there’s plenty of that to be found on the game’s website. Apparently you’ll be able to level up in different firearms disciplines, unleash combos, and be able to dodge bullets. Also, you’ll kill real outlaws of the Old West, which raises a question of why nobody’s ever heard of this guy, but anyway. This is arriving on 360, PS3, and PC at the end of the month. We’ll be curious to see at what price point and just how long the game itself is. Although we’ve got to admit, twenty bucks to kill racist d-bags is kind of a no-brainer. Check out the trailer in all its gory, er, glory:

A Brief History Of Zooey Deschanel's Musical Moments
07 may 2013 17:11
For a good year or two, Zooey Deschanel was one of the most polarizing names in pop culture. She can still induce a good argument or two (Zooey > Emily), but now it's more of a battle than an all-out war. That's what starring in one of TV's best sitcoms, New Girl, will do for you. The Fox sitcom airs its season finale next week, but Zooey's also making the publicity rounds this week for another project, She & Him, her band with M. Ward. Today, She & Him released their third album, Volume 3, and it's by far their best. It's catchy and wistful, seductive and innocent, if ultimately lightweight. Zooey's voice isn't a stunner, as anyone who's seen ANY of her movies (minus The Happening, which damn) already knows, but there's enough charisma and genuine emotion in it to disregard the imperfections. Having the technically impressive M. Ward, who provides Volume 3's eyes-wide-open pop-folk sound, around helps, too. It's the billowing vintage dress of albums. In honor of Volume 3, let's take a look at Zooey's long musical history, be it in movies, TV, or albums.

Jennifer Lawrence Photobombs Sarah Jessica Parker At Met Ball

‘Star Trek’ Actors Leonard Nimoy & Zachary Quinto Have a Spock-Off
07 may 2013 20:40
Car commercials have a habit of making such little sense that it’s often not until you get to the end of the ad that you even know it’s for a car. Which is sort of the case with Audi’s new Spock vs. Spock ad, which pits actors Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto against each other in a race to prove which is the superior Spock. In this imaginary world (which we secretly hope is real), Quinto and Nimoy have a fun rivalry in which they play online chess and race each other to golf courses. Unfortunately for Leonard Nimoy, however, he doesn’t have a far-superior and magical Audi but rather an allegedly inferior Mercedes-Benz that makes old Spock spout the F-word. (Points to you, Mercedes, for eliciting such human emotion from him.) Check out the entire video above for even more adorable, not to mention the best use of the Vulcan death grip — and the most random use of Nimoy’s ’70s song ‘The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins’ — ever.

7 Facts You Might Not Know About The Cast Of 'Mad Men'
08 may 2013 13:10
We are six seasons into Mad Men, and by this time, if you follow the series and its actors closely, there’s probably very little you don’t already know about them (hence, the “Might Not Know” in the headline). But there’s probably still a few nuggets about the cast you don’t know, and if you’re new to the series, many of the facts here may be new to you. In the process of putting together this post, I actually found out a few things myself (number one blew my mind, as did the entries on the guy who plays Abe and the guy who plays Bert Cooper). Otherwise, consider it something of a compendium of Mad Men fun facts, which you can use to impress your mother, who just got into Mad Men on Netflix.

Bill Skarsgard Gives Us One Very Good Reason to Watch ‘Hemlock Grove’
08 may 2013 13:12
If you’ve got Netflix, you should probably be checking out their new original series ‘Hemlock Grove,’ if for no other reason than to watch sexy young actor Bill Skarsgard. Guys, those Skarsgard boys have seriously good genes. Handsome dad Stellan has been acting for a very long time, and we all know how sexy Alexander Skarsgard is, especially when we get to see him (and his butt) every week on ‘True Blood.’ But did you know there is yet ANOTHER Skarsgard sibling and he’s also really hot? Meet Bill Skarsgard, a young Swedish actor who appears on the Netflix original series ‘Hemlock Grove,’ produced by director Eli Roth, who brought us such awesome horror movies as ‘Hostel’ and ‘Cabin Fever.’ Skarsgard plays the character of Roman Godfrey on the series, which follows the brutal murder of a teen girl and the hunt for her killer, but in the town of Hemlock Grove, everyone has a weird secret — some pretty supernatural ones, too. Like werewolves! Roman’s character is kinda unlikable at first, but reveals himself to be rather complex. He’s aristocratic and privileged, and has quite the sex life. Check out some pics of Bill below, or sign in to Netflix to start watching ‘Hemlock Grove’ — all 13 episodes of the first season are available.

‘Star Trek’s Chris Pine Makes Me Shiver with Excitement.
08 may 2013 13:13
There’s another ‘Star Trek‘ movie coming out, so let’s take a moment to appreciate the hotness that is leading man Chris Pine. This month you can head to the movie theater and silently (silently, so as not to disturb your seat neighbors!) swoon over Chris Pine as he heroically saves his crew members from danger aboard the SS Enterprise. That’s right, ‘Star Trek’ isn’t just for your nerdy dad or that guy with a retainer you made out with in junior high. ‘Star Trek’ is cool! It’s full of action and adventure and sexy men like Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Karl Urban, and Simon Pegg. That’s enough swoon to go around! ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ follows the crew of the Enterprise as they’re faced with their most formidable foe yet, played by another sexy guy — Benedict Cumberbatch. But the hero is definitely Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk. The King of the Sexies, if you will. There is a mountain of hotness in this movie, and he lords over all of it. With his beautiful big blue eyes, fierce features, amazing eyebrows, and buff body, Chris Pine will make you swoon so hard you may need to ensure you have a buddy system in place in case you faint all up in that movie theater.

Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Liam Neeson on: ‘Anchorman 2′

Anytime Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are in a film together, two things are guaranteed: 1. It is guaranteed to be funny. 2. Everyone is going to watch it, including me, and I'm not even an 'Anchorman' film fan. Production on the sequel the world, (or at least a small segment of the population anyway) has been waiting for with bated breath is finally underway. That’s right — ‘Anchorman 2′ is busy filming yet another news-anchor-on-news-anchor fight scene with brand new cameos from brilliant comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, with Sacha Baron Cohen, character actor John C. Reilly and veteran Liam Neeson joining in as well. Yes, Liam Neeson. Because his attempts at comedy worked out so well the first time. From what we can tell, Fey and Poehler ganged up on Cohen, Steve Carell‘s character Brick brought back his weapon of choice (the trident) and later what appears to be a flamethrower, Neeson led a battle cry that included Confederate War Soldier John C. Reilly, and someone threw in a random minotaur for funzies. Check out all the pictures below for the insanity.

'As I Lay Dying' Frontman Tried to Hire Someone to Kill His Wife
08 may 2013 13:28
Apparently hit men are cheaper than divorces, because singer Tim Lambesis from thrash metal band As I Lay Dying allegedly opted for a contract kill instead of just splitting from his wife. Lambesis was arrested for commissioning the murder of his wife from an undercover cop. (Bro, don’t you know they’re always cops?) Christian — yes, seriously — metal vocalist Lambesis, 32, was supposedly determined to off his wife Meggan, who’s also the mother of his three adopted kids. The New York Daily News reports that Lambesis was arrested for commissioning to commit a murder yesterday (May 7) in Oceanside, Calif. in a sting operation. Meggan had served him with divorce papers in September 2012. Anyone who doubted her decision is probably now eating several heaping helpings of crow. “The information came to us late last week,” Jan Caldwell of the San Diego Police Department said of the murder plot. “We acted quickly on it. I believe we averted a great tragedy.” Lambesis will appear in court for his arraignment in the next couple days. Perhaps when he’s behind bars he’ll have time to learn that life is not a Tarantino movie full of secretive hit men. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/tim-lambesis-whack-wife-authorities-article-1.1337968

The first banana stand popped up in London today, and will be touring the UK for a couple of weeks. As the May 26th date approaches in the United States, however, those banana stands will be popping up around the country, which will give us all an excuse to say “banana” and “nuts.” Banana stand location and dates can be found on the official Arrested Development twitter account. The original frozen banana only cost $1, while you can get a Simple Simon for half that. Even figuring conversation rates, THAT’S A STEAL. Here’s pictures of the first one in action.

'Historically Inaccurate' Tale Of How KISS Wrote 'Beth'
08 may 2013 13:55
Despite being one of the world’s most recognizable bands, if for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of their music (which IS quality), KISS only has two top-ten hits in the U.S.: “Forever” and “Beth,” their mopey power ballad from 1976′s Destroyer. It’s KISS’s “Angie,” except with more references to meatloaf. Or at least according to “anonymous content,” who made a short film about the song that “chronicles the completely fictitious story of [its] inspiration. The Peter Criss character’s dialogue stays true to the song’s lyrics.” They should make a video for “Love Gun” next. No idea what that song’s about.

Text Trolling is the Best Invention in the World!

The owner has had text conversations with movers, clowns, football coaches, computer repairmen and pet sitters (to name a few), just to build their hopes up and slowly, and hilariously, knock them down.

Backstage Riders From Famous Bands Visualized
08 may 2013 15:09
Henry Hargreaves (the talented conceptual photographer responsible for recreating the Last Meals Of Inmates On Death Row) is back with another compelling photographic project. Now part of being a rockstar is basically being able to have any outlandish request fulfilled and catered too and it’s this theme that Hargreaves focuses on in his fascinating new series ‘Band Riders’. He’s looked at the backstage riders / requests from some of the biggest artists in the world, including the likes of Lady Gaga, Axl Rose, Foo Fighters & Prince and then beautifully re-created them in stunning and stylish detail. A rider is basically a clause in the contract between the band and promoter that stipulates certain items will be available backstage to the artists as part of their performance fee – these can vary from food & alcohol to condoms and candles. Generally speaking, the bigger the band the more extravagant the request. Certain artists can only drink certain brands, other musicians require daily injections. It puts it into context how bizarre and silly some of them seem, but when you are touring the world from one sold out arena to another, you’re probably entitled to a few perks aren’t you? Head over to VICE to see the entire series.

21 Examples of Starbucks Employees Completely Massacring Names

When a Hong Kong Starbucks employee thought a woman named Virginia was actually named Vagina, we laughed. We figured why not keep the laughs coming and found some more Starbucks name fails. We also included what the original name is supposed to be, since it’s not always entirely clear. You’re welcome.

Couple Breaks Up in Epic Kiss Cam Dispute

Unless, of course, you’re the guy who got dumped, in which case this is probably the worst part of going to a Grizzlies game. Let this be a lesson to all of you who disrespect the Kiss Cam — you could wind up walking out alone with a soaking wet shirt. Just hang up the cell phone and kiss the girl. Or she could be walking out with a mascot on her arm, which is kind of creepy and gross, now that we think about it.

Ridiculously Demanding Craigslist Ad For Line Cook Goes Viral
08 may 2013 15:45
Thanks to reality TV and America’s desire to stuff their faces like these are the last days of the Roman Empire the job title of chef has grown in stature and prestige. But before you become a chef, you have to work your way through the kitchen. Farm Bloomington, a restaurant in Bloomington, Indiana, figured there would be so many applicants with culinary stars in their eyes for their line cook position that they posted a Craigslist ad with 44 intricately detailed job requirements. They include “Only answer ‘yes, chef’ or ‘oui, chef’ and “Always show up to work, even if you are sick as a dog. Let the chef see that you’re really sick and send you home.” If taken separately, the requirements are overbearing but not necessarily unreasonable. But when you read them all together it offers a horrifying peak inside the id of the restaurant industry. Harry Shaffer, the general manager of Farm Bloomington, has admitted the ad was posted in haste by a sous chef and the restaurant quickly took it down. However you can’t really ever erase something from the internet. You can see the entire list that should make any wannabe Food Network star reconsider their path below.

Yes, last month Jennie Lamere invented Twivo, a program that allows Twitter users to censor tweets containing mentions of TV show names and/or the names of characters from those shows. Lamere presented Twivo at a national coding competition — the TVnext Hack event in Boston that was held on April 27 — and she beat out roughly 80 other competitors, all of whom were male, to win the grand prize. Apparently the only people who didn’t see Iron Man 3 this weekend are me and the Geico caveman family, and even they sneaked into a screening of the film after watching The Iceman. "The third Tony Stark movie from Marvel Studios enjoyed the second-best opening in box-office history, grossing an estimated $175.3 million in its debut weekend, Disney said Sunday. That debut could help start to reverse a very slow year in local theaters, where revenues are down about 12% from 2012." according to the LA Times. The only film with a higher opening: The Avengers. (Will Shane Black’s next movie be a modern retelling of Titus Andronicus?) Anyway, “Rongxin” uploaded the “unused original title credits for Iron Man 3“ to Reddit earlier today, and while I have no idea what the actual credits look like, I can’t imagine they were better than this. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-fi-ct-box-office-iron-man-3-rockets-to-secondbest-opening-ever-20130505,0,1748545.story
