In a bizarre display of selfish hubris, an eccentric Chinese professor in Beijing turned his little attic home at the top of a 26-story apartment building into a virtual mountaintop penthouse. Over the course of 6 years, he brought up all the rocks and building material he needed to construct a mountain around his home and add balconies and landscaping.
All without permission, of course.

Anna Kurkurina was an average 40 year old woman who had spent most of her adult life looking after animals in a zoo when she decided to change her life. In an effort to get fit and toned, she starting working out a gym and in two years earned the title of “Most Powerful Woman in the World”. In the past six years she has received over 50 awards and she is probably stronger than most men.

This story is hard to believe but it was featured in major US and European magazines, so I believe it's true. At 47 stories, the In Tempo skyscraper in Spain is set to be the tallest residential building in the European Union. There is just one problem... There is no elevator on floors 21 through 47. The builders simply forgot to build it. The In Tempo building was originally planned to have only 20 stories. Wanting more tenants and buyers, the client asked that the building be enlarged. So the architect simply added 27 stories -- without adapting the elevator shaft and lifting machinery accordingly. Unbelievably, the oversight supposedly wasn't spotted until January 2012 when the building was almost ready.

Rome-based artists Matteo Gallinelli and Giuliano Antonio Lo Re have a collaborated on a visual project titled Pan Planets that features realistic images of four major planets—Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus)—as well as the moon and the sun. Despite seeming like a satellite or telescopic image, each astronomical figure is actually a composition of ordinary materials in a pan. Using a crafty combination of water, ink, dust, and coloring along with a clever lighting setup, the duo transforms average skillets into cosmic orbs full of texture and mystery. Each faux celestial body in the series is also accompanied by some facts about its respective formation, terrain, and known history.

If trees could talk, this bonsai (known in some circles as Hiroshima Survivor) would have a lot of stories to tell. The 388-year-old Japanese plant has seen its share of events, good and bad. Perhaps most remarkable, though, is the fact that it survived the atomic bomb that devastated Hiroshima in 1945. Located on the Yamaki family compound, less than 2 miles from where the bomb exploded, the white pine was miraculously safe from harm as shards of glass exploded through the property because of the blast. Luckily, the tree was unharmed and the Yamaki family didn't suffer any permanent injuries. First planted in 1625 and originating on Miyajima Island, the bonsai is said to be a valuable tree due to its rarity. Back in 1976, the bonsai master Masaru Yamaki gifted the ornamental tree to the American people as part of Japan's Bicentennial. It is now a permanent resident of the Japanese Bonsai Collection at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum in Washington DC. Coupled with its rich history of survival, the bonsai (the oldest in the collection) attracts many visitors to its new home in America.

This excellent video, which hit the web a few days ago and quickly went viral, clearly demonstrates how where you hold your camera can make you look like two different people. One of those people is not very attractive either. To prove that this is not a fluke, we’ve amassed all of these response videos proving angles really do have quite a bit of importance when it comes to having your picture taken. (As evidenced earlier by the Pretty Girls, Ugly Faces meme.)

If there are two things we love, it’s saving time and Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ — with this video, you can do both. Performer Christina Bianco manages to squeeze impressions of 19 different divas into one performance of the ’80s classic. Ranging from Edith Piaf to Christina Aguilera, her impressions will blow you away. Keep the annotations on for a cheat-sheet of who Bianco’s covering at any particular moment, so you don’t stroke out trying to recall what Bernadette Peters sounds like.

People watching the ‘Breaking Bad‘ season premiere on Sunday knew they were seeing something magical when Badger began detailing his script for a ‘Star Trek’ movie, and now we can see said movie (sort of) realized. We’re not sure how he achieved such a quick turn around, but comedian / illustrator Matt Czap quickly created this amazing animated version of the story. In case you don’t watch ‘Breaking Bad’ (really?), Badger is a goofy, stoner side character, whose brilliant idea for a ‘Star Trek’ movie is basically just a pie eating contest in space gone wrong. Yes, brilliant. Watch the video, you’ll see.

Starting to make its way around the web is this incredibly adorable series called Pucker of babies sucking on lemons for the very first time. Photographer David Wile captured the babies' priceless expressions which will make you do everything from purse your own lips to laugh out loud. Wearing just a bib on top and set against a blue background, the babies really show all of their emotions. Of course, it's safe to say that no babies were harmed in this production. In fact, some even seemed to enjoy the sensory shocking experience! If you'll remember, David Wile is the same photographer who was behind Splash, the fun photo series documenting the hilarious expressions of people and animals who got a bucket of water poured on their heads. My guess is that he loves seeing authentic reactions.

A bar mitzvah is the Jewish rite of passage where a boy becomes a man. This video proves it may also be when a boy becomes a rock star. Sam Horowitz had his bar mitzvah last November, but the video of his entrance to the party afterwards is only now making the rounds. It’s like he landed in the middle of a Beyonce concert and then busted out his own Justin Bieber-inspired moves. Considering he’s at the age when most boys are terrified at the prospect of slow dancing with a girl, this kid shows off some serious skills dancing with women — scantily-clad ones, at that. It’s enough to make you say “Oy!” What do you think — is Sam’s entrance cool or is it too over the top?

I know this person who definitely isn't me who finds pictures of tragically-in-love couple Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher together, and crosses out Kutcher's smug mug and replaces it with their own. Again, it's NOT me, but, well, I can see where not-me is coming from. Mila Kunis is one of our favorite people; not even her voicing Meg Griffin, one of TV's most worn-out characters, can decrease our admiration of Ukraine's finest export. Today's Mila's 30th birthday, so in honor of all things her, here are her 15 finest contributions to GIF culture.

Oh Internet, when will you ever stop trying to kill innocent celebrities? Like Jon Bon Jovi and Nelson Mandela before him, the latest celebrity to be hit with a death hoax is former Chicago Bears defensive tackle William “Refrigerator” Perry, who was declared dead earlier today in a post at TigerNet.com that has since been deleted. TigerNet covers Clemson University athletics, as the Fridge played football for the Tigers. As with any good game of Internet telephone, TigerNet’s report quickly spread on Twitter, as Bears fans and NFL fans in general began mourning the loss of the 50-year old big man, who holds the record for the largest Super Bowl ring ever created with a ridiculous size 25. But the rumors were bound to hit Perry’s friends and family and some point, and eventually even the man himself.

I didn’t think we’d find a video involving the performance of a classic song better than yesterday’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” impressionist, but this Elton John mashup is downright awesome. Posted to YouTube last October, this video shows the legendary singer/songwriter performing his 1970 classic “Your Song” over the span of four decades, and the editing job is just perfect. The result is simply marvelous, and I can’t believe that it only has 2,554 views. In fact, if someone walked up to me on the street and said, “Quick, show me a perfect YouTube video,” I’d show him this one. Or maybe this one. But probably the Elton John video.

So, Call of Duty: Ghosts! It’ll have an all-new graphics engine and new doggy buddies, which is cool and all, but what CoD fans really need to know about is the multiplayer. What’s being added to the multiplayer? Well, quite a bit as it turns out. Scroll down for a few CoD: Ghosts multiplayer details and a new trailer… Okay, a lot of this is Greek to me, since I’m absolutely terrible at games like CoD and their ilk, but I’ll try to relay the basics… - Character customization is going to be big in the game. The makers of CoD: Ghosts are promising their character editor is deep enough to create at least 20,000 unique combinations. - Oh, and you can create lady soldiers this time around, because murder and teabagging is just more fun in mixed company, don’t you think? - You can create up to 10-soldiers, each with a unique look and loadout. - News modes such as “Cranked”, in which a kill basically gives you a dose of speed, but also starts a 30-second timer during which you must get another kill, “Search and Rescue” where teammates can revive you if they grab your tags before the enemy, or “Squads” in which you get to put together custom squads to take on missions. - Of course there will be all sorts of new guns, killstreaks, maps and everything else you’d expect as well. Here’s the trailer…

Art director, illustrator, and graphic designer Olaf Cuadras created a series of playful movie posters that transform each story into minimalist designs. In the series, simply called Minimal Movie Posters, the Barcelona-based artist developed concepts for some classics including The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, and Terminator 2. The prints feature very simple, flat illustrations that portray the main characters of the stories, many of whom boast a bright pink nose in what seems to be Cuadras' signature style. The bold blocks of color and simple fonts reflect the vibe of the movies, while many of the cartoon depictions are actually quite recognizable. Cuadras also pairs the characters with various props. For example, in the Die Hard depiction, Bruce Willis's character points his machine gun to the sky with a burning building in the background. In The Big Lebowski depiction, The Dude and Walter stand atop the central plot point, the ruined rug. Any movie fans out there will just love the very fun and vibrant collection that visually captures the essence of each film.

Dina Goldstein brings us this series called Fallen Princesses. Or as I like to call it, Sadness with an extra shot of depresso. The photos feature the lives of fairy tale heroines post happily ever after. Snow White’s barefoot and pregnant, Pocahontas is a cat lady, Ariel’s trapped in an aquarium… mega sad stuff. If fairytales don’t even have happy endings, then none of us regular people have any hope. Granted, I didn’t have much to begin with, but now I got zero. BRB crying in the shower.

With enough money, you can pay two famous stuntwomen to reenact the epic chicken fight scene from ‘Family Guy.’ That’s what happened here. The internet dug down to the very bottom of its pockets and forked over around $3,000. In return famous stuntwomen Jessie Graff and Tree O’Toole made this video. Seems like a fair trade.

The pitter-patter of crazy Koolaid the bird’s feet makes while he runs after his ball in this video is probably the greatest sound ever. Sorry, Beethoven — yer DONE! We hereby proclaim little Koolaid chasing his tiny ball the best sound to ever grace human ears. No seriously, watch it. It made us feel at LEAST as happy as we did the first time we heard ol’ Ludwig’s ninth symphony.

I know what you’re thinking. Actually, I don’t — Obama does. It’s true. But if you’re anything like me, you’re probably thinking of one of these two things at any given time: Food iPhone While Apple has yet to release an edible iPhone (one day!), there are serious rumors floating around about a gold iPhone. Everyone from Techcrunch to iMore seems to be talking about it. It’s rumored that the gold iPhone will be part of the 5S series and not the super-cheap plastic iPhone 5C. The golden iPhone will probably inspire more nerd boners than Olivia Wilde in a geisha outfit; there may be a possibility that Apple will make the gold iPhone a “limited edition” model like their U2 branded iPods from way back in 2004. Of course, this is Apple that we’re talking about — and the Apple rumor mill is pretty f**king ridiculous for all us simpletons out there. Admit it. You want to touch it. You want to own it. You probably want to smell it. You want to walk down the street with it and have strangers genuflect at your feet. “There goes he,” they will say, “The man with the golden iPhone,” and you will know it to be true, and you shall harness the powers of the golden iPhone and become the master of the cellular universe. Or you’ll use it to text your last girlfriend at 4am after a night of near-prodigious drinking. You know. Whichever.

Jennifer Lawrence gets a lot of play around here. That happens when you're perfect. Seriously, she exceeds even the highest expectations. Talent, honesty, self-deprecation, the ability to f-yeah never doing a topless scene and everyone liking her all the more for it. Yep, that's perfection. So on her birthday we'd like to remind everyone how impossibly adorable she is with context-free GIFs that don't need context because she's Jennifer Lawrence. Here's to you on your birthday, Jen. May it be chocked full of food and facial expressions. #Jennifer+Lawrence

I blame Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Every since Madonna contributed “Beautiful Stranger” to the second installment in Mike Myers’s increasingly terrible spy spoof film series, it’s all been downhill. The “American Pie” cover. The string of uninspiring albums, from 2000′s Music to 2012′s MDNA. The dating of Alex Rodriguez. The fake British accent. The getting upstaged by M.I.A. The weird naked tributes. What happened? Fat Bastard, that’s what happened. But today, on Madonna’s 55th birthday, let’s pay tribute to what she once was (one of the most inspiring, creative, brilliant icons in pop music), and not what she is today (Kate Winslet, if Kate Winslet owned a BDSM dungeon and pumped weights during breaks). Here are 12 of her finest GIFs.

In an incredible display of adorable creativity, redditor ppaul9 wrote a children’s book about his relationship with his girlfriend in order to propose to her. After having it illustrated and printed, he worked with a covert photographer who stuck the book in the kids section of their local library and then waited behind some shelves to document the proposal. While they were on a date, the couple stopped at the library to return some books and check out some more for the girlfriend’s nieces and nephews. The boyfriend pulled out his book, told her it looked like a good one, and asked her to read it to him.

In his final semester of architecture school, graduate student Hank Butitta grew tired of completing conceptual projects that only existed on paper and decided to bring an assignment to life. With this drive, Butitta impulsively bought a school bus off of Craigslist for $3,000 with the intention of redesigning it into a mobile home for his final project. The idea gained traction and the support of professional architects and instructors, prompting the ambitious architect to actually transform the vehicle.

Make up artist Lex Fleming did this series of Dr. Seuss body art. She’s got One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Cat In The Hat, The Lorax, and more! They’re all super impressive not to mention incredibly nostalgic. Reminds me of my pappy learning me how to read all those years ago. I was a late bloomer, so like, two, maybe three years ago. But I’m not ashamed. As they say: better late than never. Or as pappy used to tell me: you aren’t getting any younger and you were never that good looking to start off with. Maybe it’s time you learned how to read.

Last December, these Disney princess inspired dresses debuted at the Harrods’ Christmas window display. The dresses were collaborated on by designers Versace, Valentino, Marchesa, Elie Saab, and Jenny Packham. Now the fancy frocks will be auctioned off at Christie’s to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. That’s right—now you can have your very own designer Disney princess gown! I mean, provided you’re the highest bidder.
