Why Jane Krakowski Deserves An Emmy For 30 Rock's Jenna Maroney
15 sep 2013 13:46
Every once in a while, a person will win a major award that will reflect not just the talent or act that he or she is nominated for, but possibly an entire body of work, as if to say, “You weren’t really great enough this year to deserve winning this, but you’ve been so awesome as a whole that you’re getting it anyway.” Some people believed that was the case when Denzel Washington won an Academy Award for Best Actor for Training Day or when Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won Best Picture.

Spiders on Drugs. VIDEO!
13 sep 2013 14:07
Article from Life Sciences, used Spiders-Web building patterns to determine Toxicity in such Chemicals, Marijuana, Benzedrine, Caffeine, and Chloral Hydrate. Spiders who had been given marijuana started out well enough, but were unable to maintain focus. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the main effects of marijuana on mood vary and may include euphoria, calmness, anxiety, or paranoia. Getting high or "stoned" is the reason most pot smokers use marijuana. Benzedrine (speed) produced spiders who spun enthusiastically, though no great thought or care was put into the web design. Early users of the Benzedrine inhaler discovered it had a euphoric stimulant effect, resulting in its being one of the earliest synthetic stimulants to be widely used for recreational (i.e., nonmedical) purposes. Caffeine, one of the most common stimulants taken by humans, produced an erratic web. Caffeine is a stimulant to the central nervous system, and regular use of caffeine does cause mild physical dependence. But caffeine doesn't threaten your physical, social, or economic health the way addictive drugs do. Chloral hydrate, an ingredient in sleeping pills, made the spiders doze off after barely getting started on the web. Chloral hydrate is produced from chlorine and ethanol in acidic solution. In basic conditions the haloform reaction takes place and chloral hydrate is decomposed by hydrolysis to form chloroform. Not FDA approved.

Funny Posters Reveal the Real Life of a Photographer
12 sep 2013 12:16
To many, being a photographer is a glorified profession. How hard could it be? You get to travel the world, shoot babies or weddings, and you might even be your own boss! Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, right? Over the past year, The Shoppe Design studio has started to dispel those myths, revealing the true life of a photographer. Dripping with sarcasm, the posters, under the series name Shoppe Satire, are mostly all lines photographers hear from their clients or ones they say to them (often with a sarcastic undertone). They're lines that make photographers sigh in disbelief like, "Your camera takes really nice pictures," or "Of course you are invited to our wedding. You're bringing your camera, right?" Whether you're just entering the profession or are a seasoned photographer, we'll guarantee you'll get a kick out of these posters!

Clever Illustrations by Nabhan
12 sep 2013 12:12
Deviant Art user Nabhan has created a series of illustrations in which many of these objects double up as puns. For instance, one of the illustrations shows a man who has taken away the “control” button on the keyboard, alluding to the more figurative idea of “taking contol” of one’s life. While some drawings are silly, others are quite creative and will brighten up your day. View the rest of these illustrations below.

Give A Child A Nightmare
12 sep 2013 12:02
Kids are way too sheltered these days. With 24 hours of children’s television available, they aren’t forced to watch Unsolved Mysteries and America’s Most Wanted like I was. Stir things up a bit. Get a Zombie Pet Plush. The huggable undead might bring them some sweet–yet still a little scary–cuddles by day, but turn the lights out and wait for the screams! Look at these things…they’re pretty gross looking. Choose from Bitey – a possibly rabid baby werewolf, Deadington Ruxworth – a stuffed bear, or Frostbite – an undead penguin.

Kittens In Hamster Balls
12 sep 2013 12:00
In news that will make you go tear your hair out and punch a hole through your computer screen because nothing should ever be this cute, here’s a video of a couple of 11 week old exotic shorthair kittens rolling around in hamster balls. Even the description alone causes me an intense, violent reaction, but when the video starts, I just see red. The cutest red you can possibly imagine. In fact, it’s more of a pinkish really. So restrain yourself. Restrain yourself or you too will have to buy a new computer. And computers don’t come cheap! Which is why I’m typing this at the library.

Incredible Hyperrealistic Drawings of Everyday Objects
12 sep 2013 11:58
Milan-based Italian illustrator and graphic designer Marcello Barenghi creates hyperrealistic drawings of ordinary objects that boggle the mind. It's hard to believe that the artist uses a standard set of art supplies to reproduce the likeness of everyday items, including anything from a bag of chips or bottle of whiskey to a crumpled up banknote. Each mixed media illustration in the artist's growing collection of works goes beyond just seeming realistic. They give the illusion of three-dimensionality, leaving one to question what they're actually looking at. Every wrinkle and glossy reflection is illusively reproduced, taking approximately 4 to 6 hours to complete. Barenghi also records his meticulous process, compressing the hours of work into 3-4 minute videos. Check out a time lapse view of the artist drawing a disheveled stack of playing cards, below.

Miniature Adventures in a Southwestern Landscape
12 sep 2013 11:57
At quick glance, one might believe that these landscapes are far-off shots of travelers enjoying outdoor expeditions. However, upon closer inspection, the truth reveals itself in the form of miniature figures perfectly placed within the majestic landscapes of the southwestern United States. The series, entitled Southwest, is a photo project by husband and wife team Kurt and Edwige Moses. Known for their wide variety of adventures in a miniature world, the artist duo focuses on blending the one-inch tall figures into real life situations. Although the moments are fairly ordinary—enjoying a bike ride, taking a photograph, or going for a hike—the toy people add a bit of playfulness to the naturally illuminated, everyday scenes. The artists explain that their collective project, Un Petit Monde, "combines the challenges of capturing an evocative, aesthetically pleasing image while documenting a scene in the real world environment using only available light and existing conditions. Ultimately, it is our mission to share some of the fun and joy for life with you through our project."

Buddha is a cat. A cat that — how do I put this lightly? He’s uh, big boned. Plump. Hefty. Curvy. He’s got a little extra meat on his bones. Let’s just say he’s been well fed. Like, really really well. For a long time. Aw hell, who am I kidding this cat’s fat as hell. Morbidly obese. The big kitty has been put on an exercise regime that consists of walking on an underwater treadmill. It seems to be serving Buddha pretty well — he’s gone from a round 31.4 pounds to a svelte 27.9 pounds. His goal weight? About 20 pounds. But Buddha, by then you’ll just be skin and bones! Skin and bones and a lot of loose, furry skin.

Man Dresses Up As Disney Princes & Princesses

Richard Schaefer is a costume design student at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Here he is dressed up as different Disney princes and their respective princess in a series called Prince to Princess Transformation. If I may say so, he makes a handsome dude AND a pretty lady. If I may not say so, then who the hell makes the rules around here? Whatever, I’ll just keep it to myself. But I’ll be thinking it in my head! I’ll be thinking it in my head so hard. So hard in fact, that I probably won’t be able to help but blurt it out loud. What? You can’t fault me for speaking my mind! I want pizza. What’s that smell? Ooh, Fraiser marathon at 6! God, that man looks good as a man and as a lady. How does he do it? See? I can’t help it!

Amazing Typography Portraits Created with Song Lyrics
12 sep 2013 11:46
Anyone interested in typography will be in complete awe of these realistic portraits by artist Sean Williams. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the designer, photographer, and art director certainly has a great eye for conceptual designs. To create the series, entitled Hip Hop Type, Williams took the lyrics from popular songs by each subject, including Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, and Kanye West. Relying on both positive and negative space, the artist then warped, curved, and resized the letters to fit perfectly together, forming instantly recognizable faces. The absolutely mind-blowing illustrations are an impressive combination of typography and illustration. Featuring just one simple color, the handful of well-organized words can be regarded in two ways. First, from up close, viewers can read the lyrics and visualize the artist at work on stage. Then, from a bit farther away, the color blends together to form the distinct facial details of each pop star.

Adorable Illustrations of Superhero Families

Paris, France-based designer Andry "Shango" Rajoelina has created an incredibly adorable set of illustrations called Super Families that show superheroes and their families on their way to school. The first part of his series, Justice Families, debuted back in May and in July he released part two, Marvel Families. Each of the illustrations shows superheroes we all know and love as either young children or as grown-up parents with children of their own. With their backs turned, we don't see their faces. Each character is easily identified, however, with their unmistakable outfits.

They say that the only permanent thing in the world is change. History books are one way to understand the passage of time, but there are also some real-life monuments that speak of the past in their own ways. While some of these monuments are well taken care of and protected, those that are partially or even completely run-down often are the most interesting. Here’s a selection of some of the most ghostly abandoned places around the world, every single one of which has its own special charm. Beneath all the dust, rust and cracks, there are stories of people who used to live, pray, or take their daily train rides there, and when you try to imagine these people and their lives, each picture gets a special aura of nostalgia. It’s as if the people in these places just picked up and left. On the other hand, it’s also fascinating to see how some things that used to belong to people are slowly being reclaimed by nature again. You might also remember Finnish photographer Kai Fagerström and his pictures of how wild animals were taking over abandoned houses in the woods of Finland. That’s just the natural circle of life and existence – and it sure makes for some awesome shots! Don’t these pictures just give you goose bumps?

When Nature Runs Out Of Paint: 25 All-White Animals | Bored Panda
12 sep 2013 10:51
Given the millions of different shades of color that we see in nature, it’s no wonder that, once in a while, nature might simply run out of paint. Perhaps this is why pure-white animals leave such a strong impression on us. Some of them look like ghostly spirit animals. Others, like albino whales or moose, are lonely one-in-a-million albinos with striking, unexpected appearances. Albinism (with its root in the Latin word albus, or white) is a form of hypopigmentary congenital disorder, characterized by a partial lack or total absence of melanin pigment in the eyes, skin and hair, or more rarely in the eyes alone. Due to this, animals (and humans too) with albinism are unusually pale. The eyes of an animal with albinism occasionally appear red because of the underlying retinal blood vessels showing through where there is not enough pigment to cover them. Some of the animals on this list are albinos, while others are simply members of rare white species. Whatever the case, mankind has been fascinated by such animals for ages. Some consider them to be sacred, and others – demonic. Whether you find them strange, beautiful, ghostly or freakish, we hope you enjoy this collection of animals that nature simply forgot to color in.

G.I. JOE 3 to Be Written by Snow White and the Huntsman Scribe
11 sep 2013 18:05
Jon M. Chu's G.I. Joe 3 has a screenwriter. Paramount Pictures has hired Snow White and the Huntsman writer Evan Daugherty. He also wrote the films The Killing Season, Divergent, and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. I'm pretty sure the next G.I. Joe film is going to end up with another mediocre script. I've given up hope on the G.I. Joe movie franchise. I personally think the only way to save it at this point is reboot it with an actually talented team of filmmakers. As long as they continue down this road with what the studio currently has in place we can expect more crappy G.I. Joe movies.

This is a licensing Expo poster for the Gareth Edwards directed reboot of Godzilla. A lot of other movie sites seem to believe that this is our first real look at the creature, but I'm not fully convinced. I think they just used that image to slap on a licensing poster, but I don't think it's the real thing. Back at San Diego Comic-Con an up-close image of a face of Godzilla leaked out which you can see here. This looks like a similar design. The thing is... we were told that Godzilla design was not the final design for the actual film. I think this is just another temporary placeholder design to help get people excited, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
