My Purse My Choice Is The NFL Handbag Policy Abortion Joke You Needed
19 aug 2013 20:06

This season the NFL handbag policy is making fans use NFL-branded, clear, plastic totes instead of their regular purses and handbags because it “improves stadium safety.” You know, because stadium violence begins with purses. Some fans aren’t taking that lying down. My Purse, My Choice is taking a stand, and simultaneously … uh, bringing purse humor to everyone. Just watch. Seriously. Super funny. Plus: gum.

So, Alan Moore Might Have Secretly Had Batman Kill The Joker
19 aug 2013 20:01

Who here’s read The Killing Joke? Uh huh, seeing a lot of hands. Okay now, who here remembers the part where Batman kills the Joker? You don’t? Well, maybe you just weren’t reading closely enough. Recently Scottish magician and dabbler in comic book writing, Grant Morrison, dropped the theory that Batman actually kills the Joker at the end of The Killing Joke. Don’t worry, no mystical mumbo jumbo or time-travel theories involved — Morrison’s scenario is actually pretty logical and convincing. Hit the jump to have your mind blown… Yeah, wow, okay — I don’t know if Batman killing Joker is actually what Alan Moore intended, but it’s pretty much a 100% valid reading of what we’re shown in The Killing Joke. For the record, here’s how the last page is described in Alan Moore’s script…

Lady Gaga Accuses Perez Hilton of Stalking Her, Perez Responds
19 aug 2013 18:31

It all started innocently enough, with a Lady Gaga fan getting super excited that celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton was spotted in the lobby of Gaga’s apartment building. Until Lady Gaga took this news and freaked out, calling security and then raging against Hilton on Twitter in all caps, going so far to accuse him of stalking her. After learning that Hilton was in her lobby of her New York apartment building through a fan, Gaga called security, who took care of the situation. They confirmed to Mother Monster (who was in L.A. at the time) that it was in fact the gossipmonger on her doorstep. Which resulted in some angry — and since deleted – comments hurled Hilton’s way:

Reporter Can't Handle Grumpy Cat

Australian ‘Today’ Anchor Karl Stefanovic didn’t stand a chance against Grumpy Cat. Stefanovic is known for being a bit of a prankster around the set (here he is trying to eat the world’s hottest pie), but he met his match in the cold, disapproving glare of Grumpy Cat. His reaction is pretty much the best. So is Grumpy Cat’s.

Fictional Rappers Respond To Kendrick Lamar's 'Control' Verse
19 aug 2013 18:00

It’s bad enough that Hitler’s gotten all riled up about Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s ‘Control’ now even fictional rappers are calling K. Dot out on Twitter too. Joell Ortiz was the first to respond to Kendrick’s controversial verse with an east coast call to arms then other MCs saw opportunity to some shine by going at TDE’s MVP. We got entertaining disses from Papoose, Cassidy, Lupe Fiasco and most recently Joe Budden and some less than amazing barbs from guys like Fred Da Godson but no responses from the actual rappers whose names were mentioned in the incendiary verse. And just when you thought #thestruggle for rap game relevance had brought one too many C and D list rappers out of the woodwork a peanut gallery of non-existent rappers are giving their unsolicited two cents on the situation. (Written by Nick Nadel and Timothy Tweets created by Kristy Puchko.

Theatergoers Made To Watch 'The Butler' With Armed Guards?
18 aug 2013 23:35

It’s a situation that will soon inspire a million hacky late-night jokes: “I know I said Lee Daniels’ The Butler was as pleasurable as a hole in the head, but this is ridiculous.” Tiffany, who tweets as @MsFlowersTweets, went to see The Butler last night in Silver Springs, Maryland. Upon arriving at the Regal Cinemas theater, she and everyone else in the nearly all-back audience were allegedly greeted by armed guards watching them as they watched Oprah. Oh boy. Here’s the full string of tweets.

Big Sean 'Control' Featuring Kendrick Lamar And Jay Electronica
18 aug 2013 23:33

We live in a land of hyperbole. Everything either sucks or is the best thing ever. That’s why it’s important to keep things in perspective and temper overstatements. With that said, HOLY SH*T KENDRICK LAMAR JUST DROPPED ONE OF THE BEST RAP VERSES OF ALL TIME! Okay, seriously. K. Dot has asserted himself as one of the alpha dogs in rap and his latest verse on the unreleased “Control” from Big Sean’s upcoming Hall Of Fame only solidified that position. Kendrick Lamar is LeBron James. He’s head and shoulders above everyone else rapping at this very moment and it’s not even close. So when he drops a verse like he did here, it turns the rap world on its head. First, he declared himself the King of New York (he’s from Compton) then he dropped this gem: I’m usually homeboys with the same n*ggas im rhymin wit But this is hip hop and them n*ggas should know what time it is And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake Big Sean, Jay electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you n*ggas Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n*ggas They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from u n*ggas What is competition? I’m tryna raise the bar high Who tryna jump and get it? You better off tryna skydive Whoo. Yes. Kendrick namechecked every popular rapper in his age group and said he wanted to destroy them. In this day and age of chummy rappers and passive aggressiveness, KD rang off warning shots that he’s in a league of his own. Yes, this is the verse of the year and one of those iconic moments in Hip-Hop — scratch that, all of music — that you want to be a part of. So here, listen, absorb and enjoy the moment.

Dave Chappelle On Prince 'Breakfast Can Wait' Cover
18 aug 2013 23:31

In our roundup of the greatest Prince GIFs that ever Prince’d, we forgot one aspect of the Oh So Purple One’s personality: Pop Culture Prince. It’s as rare as a copy of The Tora Tora Experience in Best Buy; that’s because Prince has no use for culture — he IS culture, at least the bizarre, Batdancing, pancake-eating part of it. He’s recently started to come around to acting like a normal, boring human, though, beginning with his initial encounter with Twitter last week and extending to last night, when he tweeted the artwork for his new Walt Jr.-disapproved single, “Breakfast Can Wait”: Dave Chappelle dressed as Prince logo.svg from Chappelle’s Show.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Palpatine Returns
17 aug 2013 21:52

So Disney and Lucasfilm ended up giving us nothing about Star Wars: Episode VII at their D23 Expo this last weekend, and it left many fans including myself unfulfilled and disappointed. But today we bring you some cool news regarding the highly anticipated film! There's a rumor been floating around that Emperor Palpatine would be back and that Ian McDiarmid would be returning to play him. That news has now been confirmed by our friends at Latino-Review, who also give us some spoilerish details on how he will return because as you know, he was murdered by Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi. I've been seeing people talking about the character being cloned, but that just didn't really make sense to me. It never even really made sense to me in the comics either. As site points out, why would the clone be an old Emperor? The whole thing made me think that their was no real truth behind the rumor, which is why I never posted anything about it. Everything has now clicked into place, though!

Prince Joins Twitter, Releases Preview of New Song “Groovy Potential”
17 aug 2013 21:44

It happened. The notoriously anti-Internet Prince has joined Twitter (which may be a little confusing to those of you who thought the @PrinceTweets2u account was actually Prince). The musician started posting Tweets under the account of his band, 3rd Eye Girl last night, a spree that as Billboard points out was verified by Twitter’s Tatiana Grace. And in just a matter of a few hours, Prince touched on all the essentials of the social media: selfies, food pictures and memes. He also posted a snippet of a new 3rd Eye Girl song, “Groovy Potential” which-as the title suggests-is indeed very groovy. Listen to the preview below.

El-P: “Hip-Hop Wins if We’re F**king Trying to Kill Eachother”
17 aug 2013 21:39

El-P and Killer Mike got the question all rappers have been getting these past 24 hours: “What’s your reaction to the new Kendrick Lamar verse?” El-P breaks it down real simple, explains why competition in hip-hop is good for everyone, and says that when he and Killer Mike go in to record Run The Jewels material, they’re always in that kill mode. “He just got on a track, ripped it, and said what he wanted to. That’s what we do, that’s what everyone should do… it shouldn’t be rare. It shouldn’t be surprising. It should be respectable and it should be something that frequently happens.” Killer Mike adds: “That’s how I got my name!”

Watch Drake, J. Cole, and Big Sean respond to Kendrick's "Control" verse In the sea of memes, response verses and spoofs (like this Hitler one) that emerged in the wake of Kendrick Lamar's verse on "Control," there is probably none funnier than this video. The clip takes interview segments of Drake, J. Cole, and Big Sean and adds a voice dub over it to make it seem like they're speaking about K.Dot's lines. Even if you're like, "Ugh, I'd rather be in a jacuzzi with The Situation before I hear one more joke about Kendrick" just do yourself a favor and make room for one more. You don't even have to watch the whole thing, just Big Sean's part. Great job Internet!

Big Sean discusses Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse
17 aug 2013 21:18

Big Sean sat down with Vibe after the release of "Control" to discuss Kendrick Lamar's verse and it's monumental impact. He responded in the video below. But really, he said: "I knew what it was for the culture of hip-hop. You see how excited people are, and I wanted to do that for music—make that play happen. It gave me like the feeling of how hip-hop was. How it used to be. When I heard [Kendrick's] verse I wasn't about to go back and change my verse—that’s cheating. That ain't the way of an O.G. That ain't how G’s move. I wanted to [release the song] for the culture of hip-hop as opposed to myself."

Whether or not To Respond to Kendrick Lamar After Verse in "Control"
17 aug 2013 21:15

Before you start writing your own "Control" response, let's consult this flowchart By now you're definitely aware of Kendrick's "verse heard 'round the world." Throughout the week, we've seen a steady stream of responses, some from rappers we expected and some from those we didn't. And with bars as passionate as Kendrick's, it's easy to see how some could get caught up in the whirlwind and want to jump in the middle of the action. Hell, you yourself might even feel the need to get on the mic. BUT HOLD ON THERE. Before you do, Buzzfeed has made this chart in order for you to really see if that's necessary. So take a breath, consult the graph and basically—unless your name is Justin Bieber—proceed to the studio.

Michelle Obama is Releasing a Hip-Hop Album

Since President Obama took office, First Lady Michelle Obama has made childhood obesity, nutrition and healthy eating her top priorities. Now it seems this crusade has reached a new level, because Mrs. Obama is releasing a hip-hop album... about diet and exercise. No, this is not a joke and no, it unfortunately doesn't include ANY Gucci Mane covers. It does include guest features from the likes of Reverend Run of Run DMC, Travis Barker, Jordin Sparks, Ashanti (hell yea girl, I see you), and Dr. Oz. Damn, she got Dr. Oz on this?! Shit is gonna be BANGING.

A Supercut Of 'Thomas The Tank Engine' Crashes Set To 'Bodies'
27 aug 2013 22:26

I suppose, in the interest of being as accurate and responsible as possible, I should point out a couple things. First, this supercut of crashes from Thomas the Tank Engine set to “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor” was posted on YouTube over two years ago, and it already has close to 150,000 views, so it’s not exactly the hippest, freshest thing we’ve ever posted here. But I just saw it for the first time a few minutes ago on Laughing Squid and it cracked me up a little, so here we are. Second, technically speaking, the title of the show is actually Thomas & Friends, not Thomas the Tank Engine, and the title of the Drowning Pool song in question is just “Bodies,” which makes my headline inaccurate at best and willfully ignorant at worst. But anyway, with all that out of the way, I’d like to get to my real point here, which is LET THE ENGINES HIT THE FLOOR LET THE ENGINES HIT THE FLOOR. LET THE ENGINES HIT THE FLOOR LET THE ENGINES HIT THE FLOOR.

Beatles 'Abbey Road' Medley Isolated Vocals Track
05 sep 2013 10:47

The Abbey Road medley is the musical equivalent of goulash. It’s made with a little bit of everything, including leftover tracks from the White Album and Let It Be sessions, most of which were written by Paul McCartney. It’s also notable because “The End” contains Ringo Starr’s only drum solo as a Beatle. Meaning, because Abbey Road was recorded after Let It Be, Ringo had to wait until the penultimate Beatles song to show off his skills…on a song called “The End.” And now that someone has removed all those pesky instruments from the medley, leaving only Paul and John’s vocals, it’s as if Ringo’s greatest accomplishment never happened. He is the Charlie Brown of people.

The Incredible Monsters & Machines Of The Isle Of Nantes
28 aug 2013 18:27

When it comes to tourism, many countries highlight their unique landmarks (Sydney Opera House in Australia, The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy) or cultural celebrations (or the Rio Carnival in Brazil & Running Of The Bulls in Spain) as a reason to visit. But Nantes, the 6th largest city in France has an entirely different proposition to lure tourists to their region. Tucked inside several warehouses that were formerly used as shipyards, sits an exhibition titled ‘Machines of the Isle‘ (or if you’re a local Les Machines de l’Île de Nantes) that will genuinely blow your mind. Since it’s inception in 2007 it has captured the imagination of thousands of tourists visiting the area. But what is it exactly? It’s the creation of two artists François Delarozière & Pierre Orefice, their vision is based upon “Visualising a travel-through-time world at the crossroads of the “imaginary worlds” of Jules Verne and the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci.” and if that sounds as ambitious as it does exciting you’d be right. Over the past 6 years, together they’ve built 3 major machines, ‘The Great Elephant’ back in 2007, ‘The Marine Worlds Carrousel’ in 2012 and ‘The Heron Tree’ which will be available to the public in 2014. Of the three, most famous is ‘The Great Elephant’ and it’s not hard to see why. Standing 12M high and stretching 8M wide it’s a structure built from a staggering 45 tons of timber and steel. But what is truly remarkable about the machine, is that was it was designed to actually move and carry members of the public. 49 to be exact and it can do so easily without any issues for around 45min. But it doesn’t end there, Delarozière & Orefice have brought other creatures to life, giant spiders, deadly venus fly traps, pterodactylus and even fish that could swallow you whole all make an appearance as you wind your away around their world. So next time you’re in Europe and what to experience something different away from the hordes and cramped cobble streets of Europe’s tourist traps – why not head over to Nantes? It’s a place where the past and future truly do collide.

When it comes to tourism, many countries highlight their unique landmarks (Sydney Opera House in Australia, ...

The Video For Empire Of The Sun's 'DNA' Is Delightful And Wacky

So yes, as you can probably tell, when it comes to electronic music I’m an Empire of the Sun fanboy. And I absolutely love this song, “DNA.” In the video for it embedded above, they ride bikes and buses around LA at night, crash a late night pool party and get arrested by LAPD. It’s awesome, and, like the song, it makes me happy. So EAT IT, DAFT PUNK!

Empire of the Sun > Daft Punk. There, I said it. DEAL WITH IT. F*ck Daft Punk, those Colbert dissing mofos!

Breaking Bad Re-Cut As A Romantic Comedy Between Walt And Jesse
06 sep 2013 16:40

Is this the best serious TV drama re-cut into a man-on-man romantic comedy YouTube video I’ve ever seen? No. No it’s not. I’m pretty sure there was one that involved Jack and Sawyer with some sort of Romancing the Stone element to it. Can’t remember all the details at the moment. I guess what I’m trying to say is that while this “Breaking Bad as a Romantic Comedy” mashup is far from internet perfection, it does make for some decent lighthearted Friday afternoon fodder as we all anxiously await the next installment of Breaking Bad’s final episodes. So enjoy it for what it’s worth. Especially you, .fun fans. And at the very least it did remind me of my all-time favorite Breaking Development Tumblr post…

Hugh Laurie's Love Letter To Los Angeles
27 aug 2013 21:39

I present this — Hugh Laurie’s love letter to Los Angeles — to you guys today because I’ve never really been a big fan of LA. It’s always been one of those places I’ve been fine with to visit but would never want to live. But I have to say, Laurie’s pro-LA argument is quite persuasive. I’ve actually come to think that I wouldn’t want to kill myself or someone else if I had to live there.

Fake Dinosaur Helps Pull Off Greatest Prank Ever
28 aug 2013 18:24

As far as pranks go, this one is a tyrannosaurus-sized success. In this Japanese video, a man is heading into his office for what appears to be another ho-hum day when, all of the sudden, he sees his co-workers fleeing from what looks like a dinosaur. The frightened man tries to hightail it out of there, not realizing the dinosaur is actually a puppet (note the human feet commandeering the costume). It’s hilarious and kind of makes us wish the countless hidden camera pranks on YouTube make a dedicated effort to up their game. C’mon, USA!

Watch Bill Hader's Impression Of James Franco At His Roast
05 sep 2013 10:31

Bill Hader sat down with Jimmy Kimmel last night and pretty much never got up, doing an extended interview and then playing sidekick during a Richard Simmons visit. It was all great and if you’re the Hader fans we are you should watch every second. There’s getting stranded in Martha’s Vineyard at Seth Meyers’s wedding, people having sex during He Got Game, and geeking out on famous directors during “Laser Cats.” But most importantly and hilariously of all there’s Hader describing the scene at James Franco’s Comedy Central Roast and how he goes way back with James. That starts at the 1:45 mark above in Part 3 of the interview but gets top billing because it’s perfect.

Video: Watch Elton John Sing 'Your Song' Over Four Decades
14 aug 2013 21:10

I didn’t think we’d find a video involving the performance of a classic song better than yesterday’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” impressionist, but this Elton John mashup is downright awesome. Posted to YouTube last October, this video shows the legendary singer/songwriter performing his 1970 classic “Your Song” over the span of four decades, and the editing job is just perfect. The result is simply marvelous, and I can’t believe that it only has 2,554 views. In fact, if someone walked up to me on the street and said, “Quick, show me a perfect YouTube video,” I’d show him this one. Or maybe this one. But probably the Elton John video.
