The home of the World’s Loudest Opinions continued their shame spiral toward their inevitable future on Friday during a chat with scholar Reza Aslan, the author of Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth. For you see, Aslan is a Muslim, so why would HE be interested in Christianity. That was an actual question. “You’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?” asked Lauren Green, to which Aslan replied, “Well, to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim.” “Yeah, well,” Green was thinking, “I have a Jewish friend.” (No, she doesn’t.) It only gets worse and worse the longer it goes on, culminating with Green accusing Aslan, who increasingly takes the tone of an exasperated parent explaining something obvious to their child, of never disclosing he’s a Muslim. Um, no: “Ma’am, the second page of my book says I’m a Muslim. Every single interview I have ever done on TV or in print says I’m a Muslim.” At no point does Fox News realize the irony of persecuting someone over their religion in a discussion about Jesus, and everyone is now dumber.

A scientific journal studied the byproducts of 3D printing and discovered that, amazingly, melting plastic in your house might be killing you. 3D printing isn’t actually a new technology, per se. There are similar processes done in industrial environments. The difference is your house probably isn’t inspected by OSHA, so as your 3D printer farts out spatulas and Yoda figurines and guns, it’s also farting out ultra-fine particles. And that’s bad news. UFPs deposit efficiently in both the pulmonary and alveolar regions of the lung, as well as in head airways. Deposition in head airways can also lead to translocation to the brain via the olfactory nerve… Several recent epidemiological studies have also shown that elevated UFP number concentrations are associated with adverse health effects, including total and cardio-respiratory mortality, hospital admissions for stroke, and asthma symptoms. In other words, you might be depositing chunks of plastic on your brain and in your lungs. Chunks of plastic that bring along something nastier and, even if they don’t, can still kill you anyway. Man, at least smoking might get you a denim jacket or something. This is a problem that can be solved pretty simply, fortunately enough, by wearing facemasks and properly ventilating the area, but it does illustrate that the 3D printing revolution has a long way to go before we’ve got one of these in every apartment. Now we settle, and wait for the inevitable lawsuit.

Sony has released the first clip and two featurettes for Elysium, the second film from District 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp. In the first video below, Matt Damon tries to deal with a bureaucratic robot who extends his parole and offers him pills to quell his human sarcasm. Ironically, we’d like to tell Sony to stop putting distracting hashtags on the screen for the entire duration of their clip, but we’d end up stuck in a hellish phone tree of an automated customer service system. The other two videos are featurettes about the droids of Elysium and the exoskeleton Damon wears to increase his strength and speed. Matt Damon describes the droids as “your worst kind of bureaucracy nightmare”. Definitely not the droids we’re looking for. The country’s officials gave the singer until May 7 to present them with the proper paperwork so he could reclaim his "beloved" new pet and continue about his tour. Oklahoma city resident 23 year old Kristina Michelle Brown was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon on her 72 year old neighbor, Elmer Morrison. A little 5 week old kitten was cruelly set on fire in New Jersey. He was found by some good Samaritans and brought to the Pennsylvania SPCA. The kitten was named Justin and is currently undergoing some intense care and lots of love. It's truly atrocious to see people committing stuff like this, but the little guy is doing well and his story is an inspiration.

This incredible woman raised six children and fifteen grandchildren, while participating in and winning 25 national championships across India. "As soon as I shot my first pistol I was hooked. And now I’ve shown everyone there’s no disadvantages to my age. If you’re focused you can do anything", said Chandro. She often attends a local firing range where she's never short of spectators. The club’s coach, Farooq Pathan, who set up the shooting club in 1998 with a couple of friends, said: "She was so good some of the men stopped turning up altogether to avoid being humiliated by her, a old woman. She has the ultimate skill, a steady hand and a sharp eye." This super granny is still competing and winning gold at the Veteran Shooting Championship held in Chennai. You go girl!

Assange, the Edgar Winters of journalism, is obviously a divisive figure, and in The Fifth Estate, director Bill Condon, fresh off filming abstinence-induced feats of strength and the agony of heartburn face in the last two Twilight movies, directs an adaptation of the books Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website (by Daniel Domscheit-Berg) and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War On Secrecy (by David Leigh and Luke Harding), written for the screen by Fringe writer Josh Singer. Think of it as the narrative fiction counterpart to We Steal Secrets. Regardless, hopefully Bill Condon hasn’t gotten too used to shooting Twilight movies.
