Don't Look Down: Real Parkour Video Is Close To 'Mirror's Edge' Game
02 jul 2013 16:25

So, there’s a new Mirror’s Edge game on the way. That’s exciting — or at least it is if you can handle playing that sort of game. I’m both prone to motion sickness, and scared s–tless of heights, so the Mirror’s Edge games are mostly just terrifying and uncomfortable for me. Speaking of terrifying and uncomfortable, some British guys went and strapped a camera to themselves as they were bounding around rooftops and construction sites and the result is a video that looks shockingly similar to Mirror’s Edge gameplay. I had to watch the entire thing through my fingers…

’90210′ Reunion at a Chippendales Show
02 jul 2013 15:00

Making good on their promise to see co-star Ian Ziering’s turn as a Chippendales dancer, Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth arrived in Las Vegas for a ‘Beverly Hills 90210′ reunion of awesome on Sunday (June 30). Also: shirtlessness. “Chippendales is a very interactive show and we managed to surprise them both by including them on stage in a few production numbers,” Ziering revealed to People. “I was very flattered by their comments. And judging by their reaction, I know they had a great time.” “We’ve always been very supportive of each others’ endeavors, and when they heard what I was up to, they wanted to come support. The fact that this new gig is Chippendales made it all the more easy to get them out to the Vegas,” Ziering added. We’re glad Doherty and Garth have put their long-standing feud behind them. As you’ll see in one of the photos below, they were even seatmates on the Vegas-bound plane. (Maybe Doherty finally realized that feuding and being sent packing from Aaron Spelling dramas is just in her DNA.) Check out more photos of the reunited (and it feels so good) castmates below, including at least one reason why Ziering’s turn with the all-male revue was extended through July 14.

Henry Cavill Is Dating ‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Kaley Cuoco
02 jul 2013 14:59

In news that would have the characters on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ salivating, Kaley Cuoco (who plays hot girl-next-door Penny on the hit sitcom) is dating Hollywood’s newest Superman, Henry Cavill. It’s a match made in nerd heaven. Aka Comic Con. “They are totally hot for each other,” a pal revealed to Us Weekly. Said yet another source, Cavill is “a massive ‘Big Bang Theory’ fan” and “has always wanted to date her.” The couple have been decidedly hush-hush about their relationship, but in a now-telling tweet from a couple weeks ago, Cuoco revealed that she loved the new ‘Superman’ and you should too — and to prove it, she included a snap of herself drooling lovingly at a promotional photo of the guy we now know is her new man. Her missive included the commentary, “Everyone go see ‘man of steel.’ It’s fantastic in every single way.” What we’re saying is last month you got trolled by Penny … and you didn’t even know it.

Courtney Love Gets Intimate With Fans at Gig in Port Chester, NY
01 jul 2013 16:45

Courtney Love‘s life and music career have made for quite the roller-coaster ride. And while she’s known as much for her headline-making antics as her music, there’s no denying she’s released some incredible songs over the years. That said, there’s no telling what kind of a show you’re gonna get when Courtney Love rolls into town, and on Thursday night (June 27) at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., fans got quite a unique Courtney Love experience. Perhaps because Love was playing at venues nearby during the same week, this particular gig was sparsely attended, creating more of a small club atmosphere to the show. Love kicked off the show with ‘Miss World’ off Hole‘s classic ‘Live Through This’ album, and with her voice a bit strained she let the crowd sing the bulk of the chorus. While she struggled a bit vocally throughout the set, which was comprised mostly of Hole songs, she had some nice moments during ‘Honey’ and ‘Celebrity Skin.’ Love noted that it was a small crowd and attempted to touch everyone in the audience, and probably succeeded with half of that goal. Throughout the gig, Love exchanged some banter with the a few of the concertgoers, including one guy wearing a Misfits t-shirt, whom Love assumed was just there to go along with his girlfriend. She promised him she would win him over, saying, ‘Misfits dude, I’m gonna own your testes in three minutes.’ She also apparently thought she was in Providence, R.I., greeting that city a couple of times during the show. For the encore, Love came out sporting a white ‘Doll Parts’-like dress, and delivered her best vocals of the night on a cover of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Under My Thumb’ and the set-closing rendition of the Buffy Sainte-Marie song ‘Codine.’

Lady Gaga in NYC Pride With a Speech on Her Lips & A Song in Her Heart
01 jul 2013 13:12

LGBT proponent Lady Gaga opened the 2013 Gay Pride Weekend in New York City with a tear-filled speech and her own special rendition of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ pride flag in hand. (We can assure you there will be no claims of lip-syncing here.) A subdued looking Gaga took to the stage on Friday night (June 28) to tell the crowd about her experiences in high school as an outcast, saying, “There was a particular crowd who did accept me. There was a particular crowd who made room for me at their table, who held me up when I felt I couldn’t, who loved me for exactly who I was. It was you. ” “You saved me, my friends in the LGBT community, time and time again. And I saw God for the first real time in all of you.” She also discussed homophobic-related attacks in the city, telling the crowd, “We are not a niche. We are a part, a big giant part of humanity. It’s time for us to be mainstream. I demand the rights! To safe streets!” “As my LGBT friends and fans always said to me, ‘I knew Lady Gaga when…’ Well look who the star is now,” she said, pointing to the cheering crowd. “Now I get to say that I knew you when. Now I get to say I knew you when you suffered. When you felt unequal. When you felt there was nothing to look forward to.” “I knew you then. And I knew you when, but I really know you now.” After the speech, Gaga performed the National Anthem, changing the final line “and the home of the brave” to “and a home for the gays.” Watch her stunning rendition of that below.

Jennifer Lopez Didn’t Really Mean to Perform for a Dictator, You Guys!
01 jul 2013 13:06

Apparently Jennifer Lopez is too good to perform at the Super Bowl of Cricket, but not to put on a birthday show for a known dictator — someone her staff members say they didn’t know actually was a dictator until it was too late. Come on, people. You had one job! On Saturday (June 29), Lopez sang for the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, even doing a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday.’ All while allegedly not realizing that groups like the Human Rights Watch have referred to him as “among the most repressive in the world.” “Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended,” her apologetic team said in a statement, adding that the event in question was hosted by the China National Petroleum Corp. and was not a “political event.” No word on how much Jenny (who can’t possibly still be from the block) made off the show, but we do know she was once offered $2 million to perform for Gaddafi’s son, so we estimate in that range. Performing for a dictator: $2 million in blood money. The backlash when the public hears what you did? Priceless.

'Dave Chappelle Predicted FOX News' Image Is Fake, Still Hilarious
28 jun 2013 14:13

An image juxtaposition entitled “Dave Chappelle predicted fox news” pairing a 2003 still from Chappelle’s Show with a Fox News still from this year was subbed to Reddit about an hour ago and is already supercharging its way through the world wide web, both on Reddit and Tumblr. Because if there’s anything that matches the internet’s love for all things Dave Chappelle it’s their disdain for all things Fox News. Only problem is the Fox News image is a photoshop that received many a RT back in February before anyone took the time to take a close look at how crappy the fonts look. Man, we can’t even enjoy delightful Fox News image memes anymore? THANKS OBAMA. Regardless, I don’t think it being fake really makes it less funny. Just pretend The Onion made it. And the Reddit comments also reminded me that this Chappelle does Howard Dean GIF exists and is one of the only things I think I’ll ever support a Vine for.

Hipsters Being Blamed For Increased Prices On Sub-Premium Beers
28 jun 2013 14:11

If you’re out at the local watering hole this weekend to grab a few cold ones with your friends or complete strangers, you might raise an eyebrow or two when it comes time to pay the tab. According to a recent survey by Restaurant Sciences, while the cost of beers and liquor have seen increases across the board at bars and restaurants across the U.S., the fastest-rising prices belong to none other than the low-range beers. This spike in price is being attributed to one specific beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon, so the Los Angeles Times knows exactly who is to blame for us getting less hops for our bucks…

That he’s possibly immortal and also that he’s one of the best music producers in the last twenty years are both nearly indisputable at this point. He’s so effortlessly cool that he somehow made the soundtrack for a despicable movie like “Despicable Me 2″ seem cool by association. Here’s a clip of him performing a track off that soundtrack, “Happy,” at the El Rey theatre in Los Angeles at the Myspace launch party. The performance was featured on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last night, and the movie hits theaters next Wednesday on July 3. While we’re on the subject of Pharrell, let’s not forget how many amazing pop, hip-hop and forgotten gems that he helped helm on production.

Bette Midler Sang ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ to a Dying Fan

Legendary actress and singer Bette Midler initially met fan Anna Greenberg at a film screening, and when she heard Greenberg — who was dying of a rare form of cancer — had taken a turn for the worse, she gave her new friend a call and wound up serenading her. Got your Kleenex ready? Because seriously, you’re gonna need it. A family member of Anna’s video-taped the May 13 call, in which you can hear Bette on speaker phone saying, “You’re such a wonderful soul and I am so glad that I got the chance to meet you … You have enhanced my life probably as much as you say I have enhanced yours.” At around the 4:25 mark on the video, Midler asks Anna if there’s anything she can do for her. The dying girl asks Bette to sing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings,’ to which she graciously responds, “Of course, angel.” And then the Divine Miss M does an emotional and tear-filled version of the song. Anna died just a few days later. She was only 28.

Oprah, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift 2013's Most Powerful Celebrities
27 jun 2013 14:22

She spent the past two years in the paltry No. 2 slot, but Oprah Winfrey is back — she’s been named Forbes’ Most Powerful Celebrity of 2013. The Forbes list reveals the big O raked in $77 million between June of 2012 and the same month this year. Other stars who ranked lower may have earned more, but since the list involves an algorithm that takes into account “entertainment-related earnings plus media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online),” the media queen reigned supreme. Coming in second place this year was Lady Gaga, who earned $80 million and was ranked third in social media (bested only by Rihanna and Justin Bieber). Director Steven Spielberg came in No. 3 overall thanks to his movie ‘Lincoln’ and an impressive $100 million in earnings. He’s outranked in terms of money only by Madonna, who made $125 million and took the No. 5 slot on the Forbes list. Meanwhile, Beyonce came in at No. 4, while her husband Jay-Z landed at No. 32. A Mexican grandmother has proven that it is never too late to go back to school. The classroom may be the last place you would expect to find most 100-year-olds, but Manuela Hernandez is far from your typical centurion. Growing up in a poor family in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, she spent only one year in grade school before the financial strain meant that she had to swap education for domestic chores. Speaking to Uno TV, Mrs Hernandez said, “I passed by the school many times but I couldn’t be a student because my mother was very poor.” Born in 1913, Manuela Hernandez was forced to trade in literacy and arithmetic for standing on a box to swat away flies. Now, a mere 90 years later, she has finally achieved her childhood dream. Mrs Hernandez was presented with her thoroughly well-earned diploma in a celebratory ceremony held in the southern Mexican state, in which over half of citizens over the age of 15 have not completed primary level education. But this academia-driven grandmother is not quite ready to exchange pens for slippers yet, as she now has her sights firmly set on high school. And who knows, college could be next on the list…

10 Best Modes of Transportation in RPGs
27 jun 2013 13:44

Coinciding with the celebration of Father’s Day, we remember the various times in RPG history when we were first given the keys to modes of transportation that helped us in saving the world. Usually given to the player later on, vehicles were a sign of progression throughout the narrative of a role-playing game. After exploring various parts of the world, you were typically given a way of travel to help speed up the process of tying up loose ends in preparation for the final battle. A long time ago, when world maps were actually explorable and not simply a list to choose towns/destinations from, vehicles and animals were always highly anticipated as players walked around the world. Keep some Gysahl Greens handy and make sure the e-brake is disengaged, because we’re paying homage to the 10 Best Modes of Transportation in RPGs.

Rosario Dawson Makes Like Rihanna and Shaves Half Her Head
26 jun 2013 22:44

This is one trend we don’t get, but hey, celebs are all about it and they’re the ones (allegedly) setting the style rules. Actress Rosario Dawson, who sports a lush, thick mane of glossy dark hair, has shaved half her head — a look we’ve also seen on Rihanna and Jenna Jameson, to name only a few. As you can see from the photo, Dawson has thinned her mane and sheared off a good portion of it. It’s a punk rock look. She was spotted with her new ‘do, casually flipped to one side, while on set of her new film ‘Finally Famous.’ (Yes, that’s Chris Rock in the background. He does not, for the record, have a half-shaved head. He’s just close-cropped.) While Dawson is gorgeous and can take a lot of style risks and liberties, we’re still baffled about why the stars are doing this. Is there some need to be “punk rock” that truly took off when Miley Cyrus decided that chopping off her hair was the edgy and cool thing to do? (God help us when Miley is the yardstick by which hair trends are measured.) Regardless, it’s just hair and it grows back. We hope.

Miley Cyrus Wore Her Underwear to Talk to Jimmy Kimmel & it got Weird
26 jun 2013 22:42

Miley Cyrus made Jimmy Kimmel very uncomfortable on his own talk show last night (June 25), arriving in high-waisted underwear, a crop top, a jacket and some thigh-high boots. As you do. Then she talked about the “symbolism” in her music video ‘We Can’t Stop.’ SPOILER ALERT: It’s not really symbolism. After some stilted conversation between the host and his guest, Kimmel asked about her bizarre music video and the twisted imagery used throughout. Miley admitted that it was “based on true events” and a series of parties she’s thrown or attended, but that it’s also chock-full of symbolism too: While she just thought the french fry skull was cool, the taxidermied deer in sunglasses standing in front of several mirrors represents the kids. Even though it’s not a taxidermied baby goat. (What?) “You know, it’s like you’re feeling judged and then here’s this scrawny deer that to me just seems so sweet, and he seems like he would be judged, and so this is him looking at himself in the reflection,” she said, making us wonder how much pot “salvia” she smoked before she got there. “He’s got himself all swagged up, he’s trying to be something that he’s not, but he has to remember he can’t be judged.” As for that Miley-on-doll action, she’s wearing a necklace that says “doll” and she’s making out with a doll-version of herself so therefore … metaphor? Also, the dude eating bread is “symbolic for money.” Or munchies. Or something. And just in case you weren’t impressed by Miley (who has been trying way too hard to make fashion statements lately), check out the video below where she talks about her buddy Snoop Lion and find out why they get along. Hint: It doesn’t involve salvia.

Now That Their Gay Friends Can Marry, Kristen Bell Proposes on Twitter
26 jun 2013 22:15

Thanks to the Supreme Court, it was a big day for gay rights in America today — not only can California resume marrying gay couples, the federal government must now bestow gay married couples the same list of 1000+ benefits that married straight couples get. This means it’s also a big day for all those celebrity couples who’ve said they wouldn’t marry until their gay compatriots had the same rights they have. First up? Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. The couple, who’s been engaged for almost three years, told CNN in an interview last August that they do want to marry, but not until everyone has the right to do so. Bell, who recently gave birth to a baby daughter with Shepard said, “I don’t believe in standing in the way of love, and I want to stand up for that right. If someone wants to commit their life to another person, why would I not bolster that argument?” Shepard went so far as to say that, for them, having a wedding before marriage was a right all Americans (especially those who would be invited to theirs) enjoyed “would just be tacky.” But with today’s new ruling, it seems that wedding bells will soon ring for the two. Shortly after she heard the news, the ‘Veronica Mars’ star tweeted this adorable proposal.

Seth Rogen, James Franco assassinate Kim Jong-Un in The Interview

We figured it’s North Korea, you might as well make it Kim Jong-un.” “James and Seth play reporters who get an interview with the dictator of North Korea and the CIA asks them to kill him,” Rogen’s Interview producer pal Evan Goldberg added. “They’re going to play a–holes.” [E!] The playing-themselves thing seems to have worked out pretty well in This is the End, which has almost doubled its profit already thus far, so why not apply it to the dictator of North Korea? His dad loved movies, maybe Jong-Un will even agree to be in it. He could play a coke-addled, blowjob-getting version of himself like Michael Cera in This is the End. Or maybe play against type by hilariously not executing people. Like, maybe some guy comes up and insults Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un just laughs and slaps him on the back and gives him a big roast beef sandwich. OR, since This is the End worked so well, maybe the plot could be that boys hole up in James Franco’s house to smoke weed during a North Korean invasion. Green Dawn, they could call it. Really, the possibilities are endless. http://www.eonline.com/news/426258/james-franco-and-seth-rogen-going-to-north-korea-to-kill-kim-jong-un-in-new-movie

Latest Movie Trailer: The Counselor, English language teaser

“If your definition of a friend is someone who will die for you, then you don’t have any friends.” I see Cormac McCarthy doesn’t subscribe to the same philosophy as the writers of Prometheus, Oblivion, The Town… How will an action movie even work if minor characters aren’t willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of the plot/leads??? I guess we’ll find out. Also: Trailer editors. Notice how much more effective the “sproing” sound at the beginning was in creating tension than the cheesy ass “BRAAAAHM” sound effects toward the end? Come on, guys, Inception was three years ago.

5 of 2013 Metal Albums That Non-Metalheads Will Love
25 jun 2013 16:41

It's been a quite year for new metal. Not nü-metal, but new metal, as in loud albums that came out in 2013 that burrow their way into your skull, slowly chipping at your head with a pick-axe until your brain and face turns into a pile of gooey nothingness. But in a good way. In honor of an excellent album that came out earlier this month, and got buried beneath Kanye's heavy dirt and ego, here are five metal albums from 2013 worth checking out.

Russell Brand Wanted to Get With Mila Kunis who's into Macaulay Culkin
25 jun 2013 16:19

Russell Brand is still busy promoting his ‘Messiah Complex’ comedy tour, and this time around he talked to the UK paper the Mirror, which allowed him to tell amusing anecdotes (rather than belittling him). To wit: There was that time he tried to mack on Mila Kunis, but all she wanted to talk about was then-boyfriend Macaulay Culkin. This particular story took place around the time Kunis and Brand were filming the 2008 movie ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ together, and in his free time he hit on her because, hi, this is Russell Brand we’re talking about. “She’s so gorgeous, just so gorgeous and I was chatting her up and got the conversation around to ‘have you got a boyfriend,’ and then you know that feeling of ‘how long do I have to entertain a conversation?’” Brand told the newspaper. “Then I go away and she keeps talking about her boyfriend Mac.” “Eventually she said he’s coming tomorrow and there was some sort of fanfare, she was so excited. Then when he came it wasn’t Mac – it was Macaulay Culkin. He’d got longer and looked pale and scared of himself, like a shaved horse. There was a horror about him,” Brand joked. “I thought, ‘You can’t f–k him – that’s the lad from Home Alone!’” It’s not hard to imagine that someday, someone else will hit on her, and he’ll tell this exact same story — only perhaps he’ll be horrified the bedmate in question is “the lad from ‘Two and a Half Men.’”
